2:26 yes, the main difference between a Maincoon and Norwegian Forest Cat is that a Norwegian Forest Cat looks like a cat. The Main Coon, on the other hand, looks like Ron Perlman.

I was captured by a wegie back in the spring of 2017. I was inexplicably drawn to the pet store one night and went there even though I did not need anything and it was not convenient. There he was, looking out from one of the cages in the front of the store where a rescue kept some of its adoptees. He had been shaved and the tag said he was a Maine Coon Cat, but he is definitely a wegie. I am so lucky he found me, and I love him so much.

I adopted an adorable little guy from the pound back in 2020 and he kept growing, and growing, and growing. Got him a DNA test this last December bc the “why is little dude more than twice the size of my 5 year old cat?” question got the best of me. He’s mostly Maine Coon but also has NFC genes. I had thought he was NFC because he looks more like one. None of it really matters and I’m mostly just commenting to brag about what an adorable giant bowling ball of fluff he is.
Edit: adding that if you adopt a kitten and they nearly double in size at each kitten check up with your vet, you should look into a dna test. Mine grew like a well nourished weed and I’m honestly a little worried at how big he’ll get now that this video told me they keep growing until they’re 5. I’m 2 years in. He weighs about 20ish pounds. He sleeps on my chest. Pray for me.

When my twin daughters were born 11 years ago he fell in love with them instantly. He is almost always glued to their sides. We trained him to walk on a leash when the girls were 3 so the girls could walk him ( the dogs were to big) and I know he did it willingly for them. He also rode in the back of their powerwheels truck. That boy is an angel. Do not know how much longer we will be blessed with his loving us on this earth but he is definately proof that angels walk among us.

This guy was not afraid of anything, I mean anything. His head looked just like a Lion, and teeth to match. I'd see him miles from home, walking as if he knew exactly where he was going. Our beloved Calico Maine Coon passed away a few months ago and this video brought tears to my eyes. Thank you! She was the sweetest, most loving cat I’ve ever had and she left huge paw-print shaped holes in our hearts. We were lucky enough to have her for 16 years, though we were hoping she would live as long as our previous (jet black) Coon who was 18 when he left us. Both truly lived up to the “gentle giant” label. They loved nothing more than curling up next to us on the couch, in our laps, or right against us in bed. In fact, the Calico preferred being under the blanket so she could be touching us as we all slept.

      @EmmaVB82 Před rokem +1

🥹😻 This is so cute. And I’m so sorry for your losses. 💔
My giant scaredy-cat ginger boy Harvey (9 month old MC) is scared of both the wind outside and the cleaner who vigorously hoovers the hallways in our building, every Wednesday morning - extremely scared when both happen at once! His safe place is getting me to come back to bed with him so he can hide under the covers with me in my “bed cave”, under my tented or crooked legs, curled up against me, ready to poke his nose out into the world when he’s feeling brave again. He also loves to sit his fluffy butt down as close to my pillow as possible if he wakes up in the morning and wants to play or get cuddles while I’m still sleeping, and will wake me up with his happy purrs, then get so happy when I sleepily stroke his chin and cheeks and neck that he drools all over me. Thanks Harv.
His favourite time to get on my lap is literally when I’m on the toilet, no matter how long I’ve been there or how long I was otherwise intending to stay there - just HUP he goes after appearing out of nowhere, then he snuggles in after doing a couple of circular laps to make sure he’s comfy, then just goes FLOP and assumes I’ll catch him if he’s flung any part of himself outside the normal constraints of gravity. For some reason he *never* wants to sit on my lap on the sofa anymore (not since he was a much littler kitten, when he would drape and flail himself at me with abandon… not sure why both my cats are anti-sofa!), but LOVES to sit on a shelf-bed right at my eye level in the kitchen next to the work surface, where he knows I’m close, can see what I’m doing, and where I’ll periodically stop everything to stroke his face and chin and neck for a bit because it makes him so happy 😻
His sister Nikita is very polite - she ideally likes to sleep on a chair right next to where my head is at in bed (and where I don’t get disrupted by all her wiggling, and vice versa! We both win here 😸), then when I’m showing signs of being awake enough to pet her, she’ll loudly and insistently trill her good mornings to me, then jump right up on my chest to curl back up to sleep as close to my face as possible… but will be unhappy with me if I fall back asleep instead of being sleepily comfily awake and petting her/contorting my body to become a comfortable and effortless place for her to drape hers. She loves to spend her afternoons while I’m WFH curled up on a bed that lives on my my desk, with occasional forays onto my lap where I can generally neither reach the keyboard or mouse, nor really even properly see the screen.
Cats are the best, and MCs are so great. I hope you’re doing alright since losing your Calico 🧡🤍🖤

We are blessed to be owned by 5 Wegies. We started with Isabelle who we found through a breeder when one of our rescues passed and our other rescue was lonely. Then sadly, the other rescue became ill and we knew she was going to pass and as Isabelle was still a kitten, we felt it would be good for her to have a playmate and we got Judi Dench for her first birthday from the same breeder. Issie is a blue with beautiful eyes that are green in the centre surrounded by gold, Judi a Tortie with deep emerald green eyes. That was our fur family complete, we thought, but our breeder wanted to continue Judi's line and asked if we were willing to allow her to have a litter. We decided to go ahead with it and she eventually (took a couple of tries as she was picky about her boyfriend, and decided she preferred a much older gentleman in the end) she had 5 beautiful kittens. I chose the first born, Carly Simon, to stay with us....a beautiful red and white girl who has eyes that have a centre rust red like her fur colour and surrounded by a green, grey. We had homes for two, plus one to the breeder, but then Carole King got an eye infection that could not be fixed easily....her eyse are a beautiful green too, though a different shade to her mother's. The specialist she sees says it is a secondary infection in reaction to something else, possibly even just a mismatch of parents. This meant she could not go to her family as she would have required a rabies shot to cross the border and that would add stress to her body, and we had fallen in love with her as well, so she has stayed with us and continues to do well except for eye infections once every month or so which respond to treatment.....she is almost a clone of her mother in looks, the ball of energy in the family, and the happiest cat I have ever known. Around this time, I had fallen deeply in love with Bob Dylan, who is dark grey and white with a little half moustache, (and his eyes are now an unusual light green, like a tropical ocean) and had not yet found a home so I told my husband it just was not possible to allow him to live anywhere else than with us.....he was kind enough to agree, so we then had 5! After all that, because of the uncertainty of Carole's health issues, our breeder decided it was not wise to breed the kitten he had chosen (Joni Mitchell) and he found her a home with a lovely young couple. James Taylor went to live with his family in Belgium and continues to grow into a beautiful cream and white young man....Carole was supposed to also be with him, but it was not to be for her to leave us. lol, my husband was not a cat lover until we got Isabelle, and now the rest....he is now totally in love with them all and they can manipulate him to do anything they want.

I was gifted my Mew for my Birthday when she was a kitten. Was told at the time, from her parents owners, that she was half Maine Coon, a quarter Black Persian, and a quarter long-haired Siamese. So, she had the Maine Coon markings and the personality, as well as chirping down; hence her name. Yet, she had a smaller bone structure. But she was an absolute sweetheart and lived for loves and cuddles, and was a phenomenal mother. She lived up to 19 years. One of her daughters we kept lived up to 16 years, and her brother lived to be 15, And another son if hers lived to be 15-16. They were all wonderful cats and a huge blessing to have.

She was down the street and needed a home when I needed a homie, we didn’t not get along, so I brought her home. At first a friend mentioned she seemed to have some wege in her, and as time went on I realized how much she reminded me of a Maine coon I once briefly lived with! And after this video, she sits solidly on both sides (coon coat, wege nose, but coon ear placement). Good to know she’s not the only one 😂

My Norwegian Forest cat is the sweetest cat Ive ever had. But she's also relentlessly bossy and mischievous at times. I compare her personality to a sour patch kid. She is very intuitive about my emotions and also knows when I need a cuddle. Be careful that your wedgie doesn't get fleas because they are ridiculously hard to get rid of in that special dense fur. When I give my cat a bath the water doesn't even reach her skin because of this crazy technology of her fur. It's like she's waterproof!

grey+white color patterns are definitely quite common with Norwegian forest cats, usually in a semi striped pattern which helps blend with light rays through grass and other low vegetation - a bit like a tiger but less straight striped. It's also common to see darker paws with pure white tips, almost like they're wearing socks which is pretty cute.

From norway so i've seen alot of norwegian forest cats. I think a possible reason why black-grey-white colors are more common is due to it's similarity with the lynx found in norway, lynxes in norway are often black grey and white, so some breeders in norway try to breed forward this colorscheme. My parents are getting a norwegian forest cat with 4 generations of pure black-white-grey colorschemes.

My Norwegian Forest cat, Jessie, will be five years old this spring and he just hit twenty pounds. They say they take five years to mature, but Jessie still acts like a big kitten much of the time. Always ready to play with or chase a thrown toy.
Very loving and social. He never likes to be alone and can be found sharing whatever room we are in, in the house.
We have a fenced back yard and although he could easily jump the wooden fence he has been trained to stay in the yard. He will come to me when he is called and If I tell him to "go home" he will go into the house through his cat door...It is the extent of his territory and there are mice and voles that he can and does catch in the yard. He will play with them and eventually let them go after a while. He is a great and patient ambush hunter but he has no killer instinct whatsoever. One of his favorite things is to get up in a sink or the bath tub, and meow to get a drink of cold running water from the faucets. Sometimes he just likes to watch the water move and he just stares down the drain.
He does something I have never seen another cat do. His litter box is in the bathroom and after using it he will wash the litter off his front paws in the toilet bowl before leaving the bathroom..
Just a big orange and cream colored fluff ball. He is very smart, affectionate and a true gentle giant.

It took years for her tail to refluff out. She stayed with us for 11 years and had a litter before we had her fixed (another knock against any previous human). We thought she was just getting fat on the regular feedings she was finally getting, lol. She was the light of our lives, and hands down the best cat I've ever had in my 70 years of cats. More like a dog than a cat, with a prodigious seasonal ruff that looked regal af. I loved brushing her, and attending to her, and she loved getting brushed and attended to. I can't imagine what her previous life of deprivation was like, but it didn't ruin her. She simply adored people and people responded in kind. It's been a year, and we still miss her every day.

After that was done his coat is very different with more variation and definition. Before it was pretty much just dense gray except his white belly. Super fluffy and silky coat, especially his butt and tail, but not as long haired as other long haired cats. And you definitely need to keep up with the brushing.

Even though he is a mutt people mistake him as a fancy pedigree cat. My Mom named him Dino, but I nicknamed him Fancy-Lad. I was still considering picking up one of these breeds but I had 2 more cats literally show up at my front door. One of them being a TNR calico cat. I've come to the conclusion that I'm not meant to get a Mainecoon or Wedge because I'm cursed with random cats showing up at my door, making me the neighborhood's official crazy cat dude, yet blessed that they are cool cats and that I get the satisfaction that I'm able to help them out.

He's soft & very silly with us but a fierce hunter , regularly bringing in mice as presents altho I've attached several bells to his collar. Recently we sadly lost our 15 yr old CollieX, Ruby, to kidney disease. In Ruby's last few days Oskar would sleep with her at night, nuzzle & cuddle up to her during the day as if to reassure & support her. From a kitten, Oskar also liked to come on Ruby's evening walk, easily managing the mile or 2 round walk. He is a little bit territorial with her other cat that she owned first which is also a factor. Anyway, the shelter where she adopted him, believes that he is a Main Coon / Siamese mix. Other than having the two angled nose profile, I think he's a dead ringer for being a Norwegian Forest Cat. Some of Norwegians in the video had a very similar nose profile to him anyway, instead of perfectly straight. Either way, he is awesome! Maybe one day I'll ask a vet if they can help figure it out.

She is only 1.3% NFC, the breed I thought she'd looks most like. Everything else is 0%. Her face isn't quite as flat as a pure SFC, which is why I guessed NFC. Now that I've watched more videos it makes more sense. She's not purebred anything. She just got genes that are found in purebreds.

My cat is a stray but I think she’s a Wegie. She has a lot of fur and has the same face structure. I don’t know for sure because she’s a stray but she’s a very particular looking kitty (specifically because she’s a very colourful calico)

The vet should be able to help identify the breed when you take her in for shots. Good luck.

I had an orange/white maine coon. He went to work every day & traveled with us for work as well. He was a very loving kitty, more dog like & very smart. All the girl kitties we had were scared to death of him & ran except for my mom's cat, a calico who cornered him. He was one of the best cats I've ever had & I definitely want another. They could never take the place of Tink but I know I won't go wrong with another.

We through that we had a DSH brown tabby kitten. Several years later, the coat grew out and we think that we ended up with a Siberian Forest Cat. Charlie, loved being brushed more than anything. He was a bag cat, and when we drive someplace, he liked to be on the drivers shoulders, looking out the drivers side door. What a way to keep your neck warm in the winter....

Also in the summer charlie reflected the color of the tree and appears green. In the winter, the coat appears to look like part of a tree. He was a great cat.... Very bright. He lived a little over 19 years,

I had a Maine Coon mix that I adopted from a shelter; Riley was such a huge and very gentle baby. He was 18# without a bit of fat. Sadly, he developed Hypercardiomegaly (? enlarged heart) and passed away at about 13 yrs old. My Shadow appears to be a Norwegian Forest Cat mix, brought in from the street. She's sweet but definitely her own cat; she very affectionate with me, but not others.

    We have 2 Maine Coons:
BABY Boii, a 15 y/o male who is about 14 lbs, orange stripe with white and Bella, a 2 y/o who's about 9 lbs with calico markings.
Boii can make himself very heavy if he wants to, or incredibly light.
Both are very sweet and get picked on by our littlest kitty due to that trait.
We have 5 and all are rescues.

My beloved lil'Warrior named Kisse ( _Kitty, a Warrior's name!_ ) lived for about 21-24 years. I miss him lots but he is better off now ^^
Even on his final days, he just went about as always. A stroll to show whose the protector around here, try to eat some food, sleep in lap.
But he was so frail that it was just time to have him go for the sleep he deserved, so the vet came home and he could be in the couch with family.
When I'll have the opportunity to get a cat, it'll surely be a Forest Cat again.
Also had one as a child that I wasn't allowed to keep because allergies. Much sad over that.
My sister has a real big chonky, candy loving Maine Coon with the most wimpy of meows. He's adorable ^^
And he's not grown to his full size I believe! Hah!

I took in an apparent Wegie (or Siberian Forest Cat?) a few years ago who showed up on my deck homeless and pregnant. She is as sweet a companion as she is beautiful. One thing I learned they need an extra large cat tree to support their size. Most are made for the tinier breeds.

The average price of a pet quality Norwegian Forest Cat is $1200. That is what I paid for mine. I find that most Maine Coon breeders charge $1400.

@@jpgrace4394 There is no such thing as a "pure bred" Maine Coon Cat.
The breed is by definition Norwegian Forest Cats bred with domestic tabbys.
They really aren't very uncommon. At our local shelter in Colorado about 25% of the cats that come in are some degree of Maine Coon cat. I guess if you have to have the breeders fancy papers and supposed "pedigree" go ahead and spend the crazy money.
      We got what appears to be. in looks and behavior, a pretty pure Norwegian Forest Cat at the local shelter for about $140. that included first shots and neutering. He looks exactly like this;

My norwegian is the sweetest cat on earth. He loves to head bump and cuddle. He was a rescue as an abandoned 5 week old kitten from under my ex's trailer... who subsequently stole him last year. But i just got him back this week after he got out and was picked up by a local pet hospital. I now have him back, and he's as sweet as ever. Never giving him up again 🥺😭❤️

Our cat really has us puzzled. He adopted us after coming into town under a car from the country as a tiny kitten. He's beautiful, has the fur between his toes and "feathers" behind his ears in large tufts. He's definitely independent and refuses to come out from under the bed when the doorbell rings. He's a man's cat and has decided my husband is his. We've had to learn his body language very well, because he bites or scratches! He loves to play with our other cats, but only on his terms. We thought he was a Maine Coon, but now I see his characteristics are more like the Norwegian Forest Cat. He's a BIG guy and only 3 now.

We now have both a 10 year old Maine coon and a jet black forest cat that wandered into our lives 6 months ago. The only fighting they do is over position on someones lap

My kitty must be a mutt, she's got the square mouth and jaw look, but the very straight nose profile angle. plus she's tiny but still only 1 year old, so hoping she keeps growing over the next few years!
