    What's cool is during this time most people would only see photos of the race coverage in magazines not videos of the race. I use to get every RC Car Action from the late 80's to the early 2000's and had never seen footage of a world level event. I always imagined the cars to be so dialed, the footage shows them bouncing around much more than I thought they would. Super cool!

      I know exactly what you mean. I was born in 1988 so I was reading car action around 95'-98' the Kinwald days and sexton ;) Great stuff. awesome to see what it was actually like.

    ...anybody else dislike the newstyle "on road" offroad tracks? the kind that makes that horrible chassis slap sound when ya land a jump! makes me laugh at the comments about having to clean the dirt off the cars ....uhm..."off road" ring any bells? race on road12 L's if you dont like dirt!

    Thank you for posting this,brings back a lot of memories,Me and my buddy were invited to the 1988 Reedy 4WD Race of Champions,In Calf. It was a 5 day event and I got to race in the Quafs with Jol Johnson,Moore,C Reed, and Masami Hirosaka who was the Champ at that time,My Heart was pounding the whole 4 mins, After all that made the D main and finshed 3rd. Best part of the whole event was being able to hang and talk with all the big name Drivers, and pit right next to Jam'em J Hulse and his Dad-( Jay drove the corvette R/C car in the movie The Dead Pool with Clint Eastward and body remember? lol
    Anyway Thx again for posting this R/C Race
    All the best to you
    Lou

    • @caseypdx503
      @caseypdx503 Před 4 lety

      No, not at all...
      The combination of the more bumpy track and older cars make it seem rougher than it is, but a modern car could of course handle this track...we have way better tech, designed for the fact that we have much bigger jumps now, that could also handle a rougher track.

      Some of these guys would hand build high capacity packs with two 7.2 sources in parallel matching each cell and moving the electronics to the center so they could also balance the chassis with cells. They would take apart their motors and experiment with balancing the rotor, different wind combinations on the armature, type of wire, thickness of wire, number of winds, and dyno those motors for the most speed and torque with the least draw from the pack. I still have a motor with layers of the armature removed to make it spin up faster but it reduces torque.

  • @73notch
    @73notch Před 4 lety

    Turn Marshall turned Kyle Reeds car around at 2:04 unfortunately and cost him 2nd, maybe a run for 1st as he was running fastest laps on the last leg of the race.

  • @firash25
    @firash25 Před 10 lety +1

    I cant believe they raced 5minutes with them old cadnica batteries! What were those? 1200mah?? With modified brushed motors for 5min wow... and track bumpy as hek with the rc10's short front a arms... really wow... now i have seen pics of masami's rc10 fiber upper and lower deck with much longer a arms nothing like the rc10 we know... maybe an after market kit? ... i truely wonder how would our updated buggies ride on such a track, sure racing now on clay but much longer a arms and minimal offset wheels and unlimited shock setups. Masami's buggy had no camber position choices or anything for that matter! See its pics on rc10.com

    • @rustyATV
      @rustyATV Před 9 lety

      By this time, you would run the yellow/black 1800mAh SCE "Extra" cells, in the modified classes, and the red/black 1400mAh SCR "Fast Charge" in stock. The 1200's had been outdated a few years.
      If you search, there is someone now making a kit to build Masami's '91 Stealth car that they designed from studying images. Arms, carbon fiber decks, steering, an all.
      Also, from what I've read, the current RC10B4 and maybe B5 are based off the '91 Stealth.

  • @cup_and_cone
    @cup_and_cone Před 10 lety +2

    Cool video. Only sad thing about racing back then was 80% car and maybe 20% driver at the top level. These days it's much, much more about the driver than the car.

    • @bretmuldner

    • @dannywalker6279
      @dannywalker6279 Před 2 lety

      Maybe a 300 dollars rtr like a losi 22. These cars can still be almost competitive today with a bigger open track cause they a little heavier. Biggest advancements been in lipo's and brushless motors

  • @Al-ud8qi
    @Al-ud8qi Před 9 lety

    I like the fact it's soft dirt but the lack of jumps would make this boring in my opinion. No choice of doubling or tripling, no rhythm anywhere, just bouncing along. I'm not a fan of AstroTurf but today's tracks are way better in my opinion.

    • @johnmoore3930
      @johnmoore3930 Před 5 lety

      modern turf tracks don't require much driving skill, they are now a handful of simple 180' turns and nothing but a jumping contest.
