Senior Golfers (Get Your Body Moving For More Distance)

  • One of the biggest issues I see with senior golfers is that they hit the ball solely with their arms. As we get older we get weaker so this hitting only leads to less and less distance. This tip shows senior golfers how to get their body moving for more distance.
    I came up with this tip after seeing Mike Austin and Wild Bill Mehlhorn talk about using their lower body as the power source. Once I saw their tips a couple of years ago I decided to try it with a few of my seniors. Within a few minutes they all started to get their body moving and get more distance. For reference this is now between 20-30 senior golfers I have tried this on.
    Although everyone so far picked up on it super fast and all of these seniors got more distance they all did this one thing that I talk about in this tip that ruined their progress. So if you are a senior golfer and want more distance watch this tip and start doing it asap but be sure to watch until the end so you don't make the same mistake.

    Paul, as you know, I've been an advocate of your teaching for over a decade. Now that I'm 75, I was facing issues and loss of distance. So, I saw the Easiest Swing channel on CZcams and they talk about "La Danse du Golf", which is exactly what this video is suggesting --- Left heel up on the backswing. Jack Nicklaus taught to lift the heel slightly with wedges and progressively more up to driver. This is the one thing I've now incorporated in my game that I hadn't heard you ever advocate. Now, I'm glad to see you endorsing it, too. However, I totally agree with your caution, because I did that at first, too. Great tip for seniors like me!

      I hadn't really done more than that because I hadn't seen this method. Then once I did, I had to test it. Yes, it works. As I said though everyone overdoes it which I bet they did not mention. So if you like this definitely keep doing it but watch out for doing it too much.

    Thanks Paul. You never stop thinking and sharing with us ways to help us improve. Having purchased your Body Swing Program and your Virtual Golf Swing video , and watching your tips like this since 2018 - it would take too long to mention all the ways you have helped this 72 yr old bad back and knees golfer keep his handicap around 9-10. Recently I went back to your help on how to stop hitting thin / fat shots which led to my absolute worst round in years (91) , to scoring 76 this past Friday. I would recommend your instruction to anyone who wants to improve and get more enjoyment out of golf, especially a senior like me.

      For sure. I am constantly working on all of this stuff. I want people to get it cause what is out there right now is scary. There will be a huge set back in learning shortly as few will be able to do a severely tilted swing. It's great for my business but it's troubling for sure. Thank you for picking up my products. I truly appreciate the support. So glad you fixed our own swing. That is one of the big benefits to what I teach. You need to do it without me. Fat shots are so simple to fix which you did and had a great round. Try to remember it for the future. I would think you were getting a little quick with your arms trapping you on that back foot. Easy to fix. Thanks for your promo to others. I need all the help I can get spreading the word.

    I like this tip, Paul. I’m 78, and when you get up in my age group and balance becomes an issue, it’s so easy to just stand there and swing. This is a great tip to counteract that tendency, and as an added benefit it promotes good rhythm and tempo. Thanks for sharing! 👍

    I just watched a Mike Austin video followed by a Wild Bill Mehlhorn video, and I have to say that the key difference between watching those videos and then THIS video is quite simply this - explanation. I felt like I needed a degree in physics to fully grasp what each of the others was saying.
    Not the case with you Paul, and that's what separates you from most other instructors. You communicate very effectively and in a way that people easily understand.
    Thanks for all you do and keep up your excellent work. So many are benefitting from it. 👌

Glad you see it. If I ever start talking like this slap me upside the head.

    Great visual/verbal explanation to do a simple rotation of the lower body Paul. Combo this with probably your best video tip, " 50 % Swing Effort " and the rock solid " Neutral Grip " video, and it would be impossible not to find improvement in 100 % of those who practice this way.

      Yes, this is a good one for sure. I just see it over and over again people using zero literally zero body thinking they are going to hit it anywhere. I explain it. They still don't do it. This takes effort. This way at least tells you what to do so they get moving. So yes, body, loose wrists, neutral grip for sure. Those things alone should get you hitting great shots for sure. Glad you see it. If you want more into the future speed up the legs and hips a little.

    Great stuff, Paul. Listen, I went back and watched your video "Backswing Shoulder Plane" a few times and realized I've been 100% brainwashed into believing the ONLY way was to point the left shoulder down Like Saguto and J Chown (and many others) preach. I'm done with that. My speed is going up nicely your way and I'm hitting it pure. I wasted years on that stuff. It's like a religion. Even in the comment section some people were shocked that there is another way. Thanks.

      It is truly mind boggling what is out there now. Somewhere in the last few years someone got this genius idea to tilt everyone (even though everyone is tilted when the bend over to the ball). Now they are all teaching it. It's great for my business because this is not working and it is only creating back problems. Imagine a 75 year old all tilted like that? Ouch. The thing is, this tilted swing is not dominating on tour. Who is? Scheffler. Standing tall with an upright swing. Go figure. Now they are also talking about all the muscles, deviations and flexions etc. strutting around thinking they know more than you. Really? Do people really care about that? No. Again, great for my business because this will never work. Glad you are on board. Make this stuff simple. We are building a powerful, effortless, pain free swing for life. Watch this one:
      czcams.com/video/x5K9S9vZiN0/video.html

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, it is sad. I had 2 people come to the school from another country a week after each other. Both had this severely tilted swing. Both hitting it nowhere. I stood them up go them both hitting it incredibly well. Then I talked to my cousin cause he lives there. He said they all teach that. There is no way this swing is going to work for average players. Not only did I fix them I also fixed others this summer too. 2 guys both had been working on it for about 2 years. Both in their 50's. Both hitting it nowhere. So I keep saying this is good for my business but it is so sad that now the whole golfing population has to go through this. I will keep doing what I do and hopefully I get everyone to hear me.

    Hi Paul... Big fan. Bought your program a while back. Just wanted to give you a thanks for improving my swing speed. I hit the ball pretty good thanks to coaching from you and have actually shot PAR once.. And as I've hit the age of 65, was losing distance... didn't really understand it. Recently, I re-watched your "Effortless Power" video. I wanted to preface this with I use the DeWiz Golf Watch App. It measures hand speed. My hand speed had been stuck on 15.1.. .that's 4 miles per hour under Vijay Singh and Henrik Stenson (two pros who've been measured with the watch and used for reference.) Nothing I'd been doing could get it above 17.1 mph. As I was practicing with this today, and feeling frustrated, I heard you in my head saying relax the wrists and let go of the tension. BAM... 18.8 mph... that's almost a 4 mph improvement and the best part.. my swing was smoother, I felt I wasn't coming out of my shoes... and I can see with some practice, I can get that speed up... That 4mph hand speed translates to about 20 mph in clubhead speed... That's huge... I'm so excited that I had to say thank you. I'm jazzed... best, Keith Miller

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thanks for picking up my program. I appreciate the support. That's a big jump in speed. Now you are on track. I keep saying it's the looseness. Just trying to get people to hear me. Stay focused. Get used to the smoothness you are describing. Also, the club should feel heavy as you swing it literally pulling your arms out. As you get used to it then switch focus to the body powering it. Now, I would say so this every night in practice swings as you need these new feelings to settle in. Watch this one too:
      czcams.com/video/LAejvDbw_aA/video.html
      Once you get it back then go back to The Body Swing. Take it step by step and work on your grip, setup and all of 4 positions. Do them and you will look like a tour pro when you swing. No one else is going to tell you that. I cannot do the positions better than you so it just takes a little getting used to and daily practice swings. Hit few balls. You've got this.

    I like the way you explain these tips and have tried to incorporate these into my swing. You are correct in that things like this can be overdone. When I overdo, I find myself mishitting and have to throttle some things back. My favorite tips are keeping the wrists and arms loose, and that older tip on getting the swing path to go from inside out. I don't have a baby draw yet but have eliminated the 30 yard slice. It takes practice to get all of this stuff in a swing with setbacks and victories along the way. I don't think you could teach the things you do if you were in your 20s as you identify and address many issues for older golfers. Thank you!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 9 měsíci

      They sure can. See it all the time. Glad you are aware of it. Arms and wrists loose is huge. So yes, you need to do that for sure. This is in the downswing though not going back. Going back you need to set the top. Then start the legs and hips allowing the powerless arms to go along for the ride. To get rid of the fade just do this daily:
      czcams.com/video/7olBqwXF3Ik/video.html
      Ideally, you need to get the ball hooking first. This is half. Then you add body to straighten it out.
      I get great results with any golfer of any age. What I teach is great for seniors though for sure.

      @paulwilsongolf  Před 16 dny

      Well I would just do this tip. Works great and gets the body moving. Some seniors forget they are seniors so they sit there trying to push or push and rotate as hard as the can and hurt themselves. Just build it up slowly. Start with this. Then do this daily:
      czcams.com/video/x1NehGi8tyI/video.html
      Need to also be super loose. Another huge issue with seniors. They are all locked up just whacking away at it. If a 12 year old can hit it by you they are doing it a different way than you. They have minimal arm strength. So be as strong as a 12 year old in your arms and an adult in your legs and hips.

      Well, you should be able to get it to high 80's into the low 90's. I keep saying that if people come to me and I put them on my little monitor if they can get it over 90 mph it's a miracle. That is them just whacking away. Once you loosen up your arms and wrists and start turning your body at all 90 becomes easy. It's not about physical strength. It about technique. Watch me get to 100mph and ask yourself if you think you could put that much energy into your shots. If so, they you should be able to get it to 100mph:

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, you have some work to do. 80 mph is easily doable. Got to do the work though. Just completely turn your arms off. In no way is this ever going to work because as we get older we get weaker. So if you are hitting with arms you will only ever lose distance. So relaxed arms and super loose wrists get you the speed but this arm unit has to be connected to your body which is coiling and uncoiling. You don't have to be strong to be loose so anyone should be able to do this. I would do this to unlock your wrists:
      czcams.com/video/URlX7BBFohc/video.html
      czcams.com/video/6ZeTqcz2pmE/video.html
      Then do this:
      czcams.com/video/0gOuKQpUl54/video.html
      czcams.com/video/x1NehGi8tyI/video.html
      Then power it with the legs and hips with the tip I posted and you commented on. There are other ways too. This is the easiest one:
      czcams.com/video/RdphthCQ9VM/video.html
      czcams.com/video/FV8uSZ16Bys/video.html
      Just do daily practice swings at home for a while. The ball is the problem. No ball means no hitting so you can get used to these moves. Then add the ball later once you have got it.
