In Malaysia, after 17yrs (since Richard reviewed it) Perodua Kelisa still hold a very good high value for a second hand car. It is all because of its reliability, good gas consumption and simple yet practical look
True
Kelisa's more expensive than the VIVA in used car market until today😂
15000 is quite expensive for second hand kelisa..i saw on mudah
@@ridzwananuar5919 the price speaks for its value kan...
I still see it today
My neighbour has one of these things. He's had it from new in 2003 and it's now done over 170,000 miles. He's never had a problem with it and drives it all over Europe (from the UK). He did have after market air-con fitted. He loves it.
drives one and never get tire of it. very practical in congested malaysian cities.
I feel the car does the job pretty well. No fancy stuff but it's worth for every single penny you spent.
One of the best cars I ever owned...miss it so much.
mark1968 My dad has an older model. A Perodua Kancil, which has a 650 engine and had an aircond, but at least it does what it's supposed to do😁
mark1968 mine already 500,000 miles and still use this car :)
This is pretty funny clip if you have seen Clarkson hammering one.
Had one, they're pretty damn awesome! Great engine, feels pure and simple like a mini, also great to work on.
The right size car for Richard Hammond
Nope, its for may
hammond would be considered somewhat tall compared to malaysians
i came looking for this comment 😂
I have one, £9.60/month road tax, £25 full tank, 55MPG city driving and 65MPG on motorways etc. Doesn't cost a lot to run round and its reliable. Can't moan. Jokes on the people sat in traffic in £20,000 + cars.
I feel sorry for you.
@Andy Raposo Rubio I don't have that car anymore, it was fun though.
@Andy Raposo Rubio Yeah you're right, I did always drive it carefully though. German cars are better though.
@@BibiMizrah It was reliable, but the only issue I had was with the drive belt because it used the alternator as tension it would sometimes become loose even with brand new bolts and was a real pain to get to. I would get rid of the car just because of that honestly.
My mate has just bought one. I'm still in the " rip the piss " stage atm.
But he said it has grown on him. I think he feels sorry for the car.
Richard Hammond loves this car for the same reason I love my Escort:
Sometimes it's fun to slum it. When you have to something better at home.
Actually, i had one of these...over 6 years and still going fantasic with regular maintenence. those whos need a set of wheel with minimal money. There's one good choice.
Took my friend's Kelisa and floored it in the winding suburb roads, it was amazing! It went through bends so smoothly, that after we got back I wanted to get 1 for fun but Perodua aren't making them anymore
toyta and dihatsu also have this car as preudo a merlisa markt and brand as well.
Malaysian cars in TG
Richard: i like them, think i might buy one
James: hmmm, its not bad but could do better
Jeremy: *confused screaming*
surprisingly, kelisa still holds good 2nd hand value as compared to other Perodua's brands....
it‘s for a reason tho cuz Kelisa were the one of the most,if not,the most reliable car Perodua had ever made
@@fongchye1946 i setuju.
Myvi left the chat
@@fongchye1946 Because the engine is based off a toyota
Bezza with tiktok influencer :
I have to admit, I really wish I bought this car when it first came out. It is so well built that 120,000km mileage in it can easily be achieved, I repeat, EASILY. In terms of pricing, if you’re complaining it’s too expensive I suggest you buy a motorcycle because you’re a cheapskate. What really surprises me is that in 2019 with all the modern looking cars appearing on Malaysian roads, I slowly begin to appreciate the sleek understated looks of this car. Of course, the stock rims are horrible but you can easily swap that out for others but other than that, I think the car looks quite minimalist. If you want to take a step further you can swap out the radio with a DVD player to give it a ‘modern’ feel and better halogen or LED lights for night drives. To those who got the chance to own one, I can only say that I’m so envious that you had the chance to drive a reliable, well built and handsome car 😢
It's really a Daihatsu Cuore - pretty much bullet-proof!
My dad Got This Car from 2006 its Already 11 Years !
had one and still using it for daily commute , stock engine and stock interior , love this
This is my first car, I love it!
It only cost me £900
PinkEiffelTower this car sucks....i am from Malaysia....
jack theripper looks like its the only thing that sucks in your life...
jack theripper dude appreciate it with the fact that there are some people that actually love this car and one of them is a celebrity and im from Malaysia too and proud of it
Calvin Leong well, fuck you too
This is still the best malaysian made car and it is like 10 years ago
i have this car and i love it..i swapped the yrv 1.3 turbo into it and it becomes more fun to drive
That little fucker is just adorable.
You mean Hammond, or the car?
Саня Чернов Both (no homo)!
Its cheap.. its fun to drive.. its save a lot of money in term of gas.. yes its true its far beyond Mini or Peugeot or Fiat or whatever it is.. because it is cheap.. but no one can deny its RELIABILITY. For that amount of money (and that is what u only have), its a good buy. If u hv a lot more, go buy something else.
The most hated car in Malaysian Parking lots
Brian3642 Hahahahaha alongside viva
Viva & kancil also.
Hahaha I drove a kelisa people always gave me a look if I squeeze pass a very narrow lane in traffic jem..its compact and cute
now its Axia lol
mm yes
Was my first car back in 2003. Fantastic little machine which I totally appreciated driving in the city. The best it could do on the motorway was 100mph but it wasn’t really meant to do that.
This car is so underrated. Might not look it but it gives almost Toyota levels of reliability. I still see people driving around in these.
Considering it was based of the Daihatsu Gino/Mira in japan not surprising. The Toyota DNA is there
Basically all previous and some current perodua models are base for Daihatsu/Toyota since they are the tech partners
i dunno why..but you dont feel the kelisa looks outdated even on 2015.
a bit yes and no,on the out side it looks almost up to date with most modern car when get in it the age seems clear.
+hijazzains It barely looked passable in 2001, never mind 2015.
+hijazzains Because it's so unfashionable it doesn't go stale like fashions do.
Plum Bit i hate pricks from rich countries
Hammond really mugged for the camera back then
George Patton This is what I would have expected his TG audition tape to be like
Even today this kelisa handle so well, i would say even better than a new honda civic
James May would love this!
I have one the SE edition, still in good condition, red color, and still original inside..no change at all. I got it from my late sister..
One of the most riced cars in Malaysia
Oyster next to Myvi and Civic
Hate these small car drivers. Cause havoc in Kl and PJ
Rice!?!?what rice?!?!Chicken Rice?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
riced
a souped up economy import (hence the term rice-d) sedan turned into astreet racing machine. They are usually covered in lame stickers, huge exhaust tips, huge spoiler, and lots of other shit all over them. See the movie The Fast and the Furious

It helps their relationship that it looks like him.
i have this car (2001) pretty fun to drive it also comfortable.
I use to have one, I like it very much
James May liked it too.
This Car can Modifield To Be A Mini Cooper At Malaysian..Hahaha..🤣
Is this car also a Daihatsu where it shares the same parts? As in a collaboration deal type thing.
The kelisa is awesome since I hv one 4 more than 6 years... this car is really awesome... love for da keli
I always have a slight suspicion that I've seen every Proton before as a Daihatsu or a Mitsubishi. This Kelisa, for example, looks suspiciously close to a Daihatsu Cuore.
Early proton cars were rebranded and slightly modified retired mitsubishi cars . Perodua on the other hand is a rebadged and rebranded Daihatsu cars, till date.
@@azurantaiki except for bezza 🤔
i like this car....
I saw one today for the first time and thought it was cute little motor. Could be on my bucket list but suspect I'd have to import one from Malaysia.
The British should love it. It is the new generation Mini Cooper😝.
Nick Ryan Its what the new Mini should have been, not the corpulant ugly lump that it is.
@@davebicker8618 BMW mechanics thrown together and that enlarged Countryman SUV or whatever it is just doesn't fit quite well and it doesn't even deserve to be called as a "Mini"
I love this car
Paint it pink... Some flowers decals and white wheels... Guess what... Some Malaysian have done that...

Ayam me,ayam pretty, ayam ayam ayam ayam ayam ayam goreng XD
If it's given a Hello Kitty livery after those treatment, I'm fine with that...
It's actually a rebadged Daihatsu, which explains the high reliability.
That's because Perodua engaged a partnership with Daihatsu during its founding. So Perodua's first cars are rebadged Daihatsu models.
From the same family as perodua myvi malaysia king of the road. And a great swimmer in flood
I had one of these from new a few years ago, they are much faster than you think. But I hated the way the the door rubbed against my leg. Overall it was a good car, but more suited to smaller drivers.
Thanks for you guys now 2004 model reach £2500 in Malaysia
😂 Sorry to hear that
I owned one. Really fuel economic. I love this car.
Why are camera are too old or new or bruh
Hammond ran towards with a edging knife and didn't touch it unlike Clarkson who got a sledgehammer and then pulled it apart.
Needs more K3-VE2
I had from 2007 until now 2023😊
Kelisa look much prettier in UK
Thank you for buying this car! ^_^
this is a good car
Myvi dia orang tau ke?
It's a rebadged Daihatsu Cuore - a splendid little car from the rarely acknowledged king of the sector.
This car should suit James May xD
Blatantly built on Micra shared base. It resembles nearly as Micra
its a daihatsu cuore face lifted
Imagine dropping an LT4 in that
Malaysian hates it, foreigner love it. sums up Malaysian mentality but not all ofcourse :)
Dolan Gawd we hate it for its false hope of empty parking spots.

Just 5000 GBP when new ?
This was originally Giorgetto Giugiaro designed Daihatsu MIRA.
This is the closest people can get to a Mini Cooper.
he he he, got to watch out for oil leaking from underneath the engine after few years of ride! - a very common problem for this zippy car. Still hv ten of thousands on the road currently. ;)
I think the Perodua is a Malaysian clone of the Daihatsu Cuorel or yesteryear.
Nope, Kelisa is a rebadged Daihatsu Cuorel by Perodua. And Perodua is still rebadging newer Daihatsu/ Toyota cars.
Kangwei Tan Thanks, but is that not what I said?
Clone sounds like copy-cat to me. Perodua doesn't copy the design, rebadge sounds better to me. Haha
Kangwei Tan Clone = Exact Copy.
dchawk81 Thanks for clearing that up, captain obvious.
filmed near stoke.
good news, grand tour will be in malaysia to record a special.
spot on about depreciation - when represented as a %age of the original purchase price however if you pay £x for a car thats the most hard cash you can lose. So yeah a Polo may lose less as a % of purchase price than say a Punto but when FIAT dealers have to bargain hard to sell you one then you lose less in hard cash when you sell the FIAT.
Perodua kelisa in indonesia is daihatsu ceria (happy)
No, that's the Perodua Kancil...
At least Hammond has some respect for Malaysians...
So he used to be tolerable back then?
It has appeal . Looks like I could have fun tricking it out riduculously .
Jesus - how finicky can people get - 5 years before this I bought a SEAT Marbella for £5k new - loved it but in that even opening windows were an extra - had to carry a screw driver to re-attach the winder regularly - this would have been a Merc by comparison lol
Richard Hammond: I hate the car in every possible way... But... It's not a Peugeot. "I LIKE this car!!"
bet he wishes he could stop the rimac as quickly as that axe in the beginning
watching this so i don feel like my kelisa is a crappy car :3
Di Indonesia itu Daihatsu namanya Daihatsu ceria
Pera doo ah
Since it's based on Daihatsu Mira, was reliable.
Daihatsu Cuore?
malaysia car..i from malaysia
LOL.. I never realised Hamster would even conceive of driving such a vehicle now he has the Top Gear bug and flies to the studio in his own chopper (albeit a really really crappy ancient looking one that I'd probably refuse a lift in for fear of crash landing) Haven't been in this particular P'dua but rode in another and it was horrid. This one I guess looks pretty similar to a Micra so isn't too offensive and equipment sounds decent for the money but I ask myself why I have not come accross one recently in the cheap car ads and the answer must be they are crap and all scrapped
Well, they hardly sold well here and were probably mostly bought by pensioners who hold onto cars longer than most, so I'm not sure if they've all been scrapped. Having said that though, I saw an 03 reg one in a scrapyard in January 2011, less than 8 years old!
Am i the only one who see's a daihatsu mira??? MightyCarMods showed me quite alot over the years this looks like a ripoff of the mira
12uniflew Perodua is basically own by Daihatsu.
Yeah you are on the money. Got them Mira arse big time.
Yep just like the myvi is actually a Daihatsu Sirion the kelisa is a Daihatsu Mira or in other countries like where i live Cuore
it is a rebadged daihatsu
really?do you really like it hammond?
He had to review it. :P Plus for a cheap car back in 2002, this is worth it.
maybe this is the reason why jezza hate it.................................bcos hamster love it XD
+kelvin lam As well as Captain Slow he likes it too.
it looks like a Daihatsu Cuore
So that's where Clarkson got his ideas for Heaven & Hell...
I live malaysia!
I prefer Clarkson's review of this car better.
Clarkson is an idiot! That review make me to take the decision to hate that bastard from now one!
me too LOL
Hahah :D
The basic shape is good. Redesign the head lamps, the grill and name change. And voila!
Daihatsu Cuore clone?
Perodua Malaysia has 25% of shares in Daihatsu. So some of the products and engine technologies are shared.

Malaysians hated this car because people trying to find a parking spot. found one but to find out its a small kelisa.
One of expensive used car as of today
I think Hammond should replace it with a Fiat multipla instead nickname The Rover James from top gear
he'd suit one of those there small and crap
