Richard Hammond REACTS to his old car videos before Top Gear!

- We all know Richard Hammond from his rise to fame on Top Gear and The Grand Tour, but he cut his teeth presenting on a lesser-known channel called Granada Men & Motors. We sat him down to rewatch his first steps into the world of motoring television, and to see how far he has come in 25 years!
To watch more of his M&M content, there are plenty videos on their CZcams channel here: / menandmotors - Auta a dopravní prostředky

I have a question for you Hammond what car do you like the most out of these 3 Jaguar 420G / Jaguar Mark 2 / Jaguar xj series 3 v12
Cheese 🧀 gromit
I liked Richard on Brainiac!
Who like the new top gear without the holy trinity
His presentation style literally hasn’t changed a bit.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
Hasnt changed at all...its crazy to see how TG literally took Richard Hammond and incorporated his style, unchanged, into the show.
Though back then he wasn't yet famous for giving car insurance agents heart attacks.
And we love him all for it.
@@mansfield8923 i 100% agree with this comment
he really said “i can feel you getting bored” and offended us. we can never get bored of him
Never ❤️
What! Of course we can! It's a free world!
i was surprised when he said it because i was actually getting bored
@@weedwacker1716 & 1.2k others😉
Honestly, I was getting bored, but then he switched to a frame with Roman pillars and called it quits.....
This needs to happen with Jeremy, as his early stuff is the hilariously shocking.
I think the only reason they haven’t is because it would get the channel a censorship strike LOL
@@MrJayrock620 A plenty of his old stuff about, so no it wouldn't get censored.
@@adrianchetwynd1334 probably still owned by the bbc though?
@@anandjasani89 I guess so.
I pay for CZcams premium so cannot see any ads. No doubt the BBC gets revenue from CZcams for the old Jeremy footage, assuming that it comes with ads.
“Mmmm yeet”- Jeremy
Hey Richard, why not come and see us at Pinewood Studios for another trip down memory lane 🙂
M&M reunion maybe?
Richard, we would really appreciate that
Come on Richard!
😱😱😱😱
Cant wait for an another mitsubishi l200
I can remember doing a show with you on men and motor's where we tried three cars to drive to see which one i would buy, I wanted a tvr at the time. Sadly you couldn't find a tvr so it was your air-cooled Porsche 911 (Which I hit the camera man with, I thought I was in reverse but sadly I was in first) a Marcus, and a caterham 7. I did buy the tvr, but I should have bought the air-cooled Porsche 911 it would have been worth a fortune now.... opps 😔 also it was about 2002 not 1999 when you joined top gear, I can remember when talking to you on that day you were being considered and hopping to get the top gear job, I have been watching you ever since

I remember that piece.
Awesome
Richard seeing his young self: "That shirt!"
James seeing his young self: "Look at my jacket!"
Jeremy when he sees his young self (probably): "Look at my hair!"
This guy doesn’t give himself enough credit, having been able to BS his way through 7 whole years of his life, but I’ll agree with him in that it does seem like he’s calmed down a lot with time.
a few big crashes will do that.
His style of presentation was also the most distinct I felt within the trio. He is easily the most flamboyant of the three, as well as being the most exuberant.
@@MegaHariboboy I think a lot of it has to do with his radio experience in the 80s. He knows how to have a grip on things while presenting in a way the other two don’t quite have.
@@MegaHariboboy I agree with you, considering he's the only one who can order 2 pints of bitter, one rose wine large, a bag of salt and vinegar crisps, and biltong like nobody else.
I actually worked with Richard on Men and Motors back in the day. I Remember him picking me up for a shoot in his wife's Rav 4. Was a great day filming around Sheffield and a great guy.
Hammond: “My Grandfather was a coach builder at Milliners.”
Part of car breaks
Hammond: “Grandad didn’t build that piece…” 😂
That's one of my favourite episodes! I know that a lot of it is a set up / loosely scripted, but it was still hilariously funny. I remember James referring to the Work of the Divine Potter very clearly indeed...
"ding" Memory unlocked
And then finding out that the very car wasn't built at the same factory his Granddad worked at.
@@DystopianOverture I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembered this bit
This is quite a lot like top gear! Richard brought some quality to the table. Top Gear is the best thing in TV history.
They pinched him from MM before these shows ended.
Was. Not is.
Correction. Top Gear *WAS* the best thing in TV history.
Agreed. Watching Top Gear clips back in the early 2000s easily beat any US made car show. Top Gear made Motor Trend, Autoweek and C&D look so boring.
Maybe not the best, but definitely in my top 5.
Wow - Richard looks about 16 in those early videos! I'm amazed he didn't get stopped by security asking where his parents were at a lot of those car shows.
I really enjoy Richard Hammonds voice. I wish he'd narrate books or do video game voices.
Ahh, telly nostalgia, I remember Richard doing Men & Motors, it was entertaining stuff, at a time when Top Gear was the only car show on national TV, and quite staid too. Richard was in fact a pioneer, as the shows were clearly just him, and a bloke with a camcorder, shooting everything in an couple of hours, often in the rain... In fact, it was mostly similar 'content' to what is on CZcams today, bloke talking to his phone, but years before CZcams even existed! Richard mate, everyone is still copying you!
Richard looks at least 25 years younger that Clarkson.
yeah don t know about that show since I was born in 95 but sounds fun
Hammond: Proto Doug Demuro
Except shorter.
The old Top Gear is an icon in television history! What I laughed at with the three of them.. What nostalgia! Hammond's reaction at the beginning is epic! Suggestion: A Hammond roast to Jeremy's cars!
none of those clips where off top gear
Hammond was never on Old Top gear he started off with Men & Motors
This is before top gear you muppet
@@dazzaMusic Old Top Gear was those three, New Top gear isn't is it, you mean old new top gear 😁
@@HalfdeadRider Old top gear was before the show was revamped in 2002 Clarkson and May were on the show but Hammond never was.
I'd love to see Hammond react to some of Clarksons old VHS specials from the 90's.
He might be able to say Cossie properly - cozzeh
Jeremy should be the one reacting.
Seeing Hammond genuinely cringe at his younger self just like I cringe at things I remember doing in high school is a gem.
"How would you know, you're only 7"... oh Hammond, please never grow old
We will never ever forget the photo Clarkson showed of Hammond when he had long hair from his radio days “ dog tanion”
"Ready.... Steady.....
Oooohhhh!!"
I thought he said dork tanion
@@ked4 Might as well have! But it was (I think) a reference to Dogtanian and the Three Muskahounds (a Spanish / Japanese cartoon series), and also to the Three Musketeers who are often portrayed as having long Hammondesque hair.
@@abarratt8869 I thought it to mean he's a dorky musketeer lookalike in the pic
@@ked4 ah, you know it already. Apologies, it's sometimes hard to guess what ancient telly people are aware of, and what has been lost to the mists of time. Dogtanian dates back to the mid 1980s, which now seems a very long time ago.
I can almost guarantee that NO ONE is bored watching you tear down your old reviews. This is great! Thank you Hamster!
Richard. Seriously. Your journalism style and your way to speak, to promote excitement, has not changed a bit. Be proud. You’re a true classic now.
really cool to see the evolution from Young Richard Hammond to todays British Al Pacino
"Wah have we heeerrree? This is ah nine ELEVEN. Ah wan'ed a TARGA. Feel like ah'm losin' mah MIND here."
I love everything Hammond made through the years.
I would love to see how he reacts to old Brainiac sceens which he was involved in
And his Wipeout days
YES! The first time I saw him on television, he was hosting Brainiac! And I loved that show!
Did you see his "Should I Be Worried About...?" series? I think thats the only one I skipped after the first episode. But I did love Brainiac: Science Abuse (particularly the hot professor).
Agreed, I used to watch Brainiac when he presented it.
Hammond would be a really cool grandfather
I was there back in the day watching Men & Motors. I can remember saying “That Richard Hammond bloke should be on Top Gear”. The internet was in its infancy and we had these cable/ satellite shows to get our car and “specialist” fixes 😂.
I love how his voice remained mostly unchanged...
Just a bit deeper, just fantastic lol
Can we get all three of you watching all your old vids together? I’d sit here for hours watching that lol
I'd like to see Jeremy explain why he used to put on a posh voice when he started on Top Gear.
@@SuperiorModel that was his natural voice
He may seem to have the thought of the bar pretty low because he is seeing himself. However, Mr. Hammond, you Sir are one of the most important and respected motor journalist that my generation has ever known. Hat's off to you and your colleagues, Sir.
Richard Hammond is one of the very few people i would absolutely love to meet in person, but will never, ever get the chance to. He seems like a genuinely awesome bloke!
The days where Hammond was with men and motors has a certain aspect that he should revist today
He could easily revive that as a peronal CZcams channel and keep up on reviews of cars.
If Clarkson was to do this, it would have to be a thirty minute video. He's been reviewing cars since the first Mercedes
1:38 "How would you know? You're only seven!"
Well said by an eternal 35 year-old
As someone who watches a lot of Top Gear on DAVE, it's strange to see how much Hammond has aged. He's aged well. But I don't always notice it thanks to endless reruns.
I've tears I'm laughing so hard at young Hammond providing the petard upon which older Hammond hoists himself!
There was nothing wrong with you back then or now, your a legend 😂
Is it weird that Richard's style and energy hasn't changed _at all_ in all these years? That's amazing.
It’s always a joy to see new Richard Hammond content! ❤️ He never fails to make me laugh. 😂☺️ I do very much miss Top Gear and Gran Tour.
Top Gear is still one of the best things TV ever had.
Correction: will ever have
I don’t think anyone was getting bored, more of this please 😂
And we still love you for all you’ve done! Bravo!
You have to do this again I wasn’t bored at all was hooked the whole time!!!
Would be hilarious if you could get Richard, Jeremy and may to do one all together reacting to there early stuff 😂
I would like to see a video with Richard Hammond reacting to the stuff he did on Brainiac Science Abuse since he might bring up some stuff they did behind the scenes e.g. Alkali Metals and Custard.
Yes that would be hilarious. I would love to see that too please please with a cherry on the top. It’s funny because I’ve just finished watching through those lol
Tina Turner and her bunsen burner Haha.
No way i used to watch that when i was a kid lol
Oh yeah, like the cesium explosion they totally faked.
I enjoyed it very much. Nice to see that Hammond can laugh at himself. Everybody starts small.
However Hammond never got any bigger. Slightly more popular perhaps, but not any bigger.
I think a large part of what made the trio so popular is that none of them took themselves seriously, and still don't.
Thanks for sharing Richard. Imagine looking back 20 years from now back to this one....
Richard you're a true treasure for television and the motoring world.
Tog gear was the greatest show ever to be seen on TV . “WAS” . Hammond , Clarkson and May will forever by my heroes ❤️
As weird as it must have been watching yourself presenting cars over 20 years ago, I think those vintage videos are still a treat especially when shopping for a now classic/youngtimer.
When searching for my current car, a 2003 Z4 3.0i, a review done by you + a comparative review with JM & JC truly helped in the pursuit of the purchase 👍🏽
It's that enthusiasm that keeps you gripped to Top Gear & The Grand Tour for so many years 👏🏽
You were great back then, Richard. You are great now. And you will always be great. And nothing can ever change that.
It has to be said, these old videos still showcase a great screen presence. Made a great choice, they did! Thanks for that, Willman and Clarkson!
We need more of this, from Hammond, the others, anything.
They need to do this with Clarkson and May now!
3:00
This is such a treat for golden age top gear and grand tour fans.
Oh I hope Clarkson and May see this
Loved your Clio V6 on men & motors. Still watch every now & then
I think it needs the 3 of them together to roast each other’s early careers! Imagine the laughs there
I'd love a part 2. I'd also love to see him react to his old motorcycle reviews.
I can't believe I've watch most of these at the time of release yrs ago. These are great. The top gear yrs were awesome. Thanks for the memories and looking forward to more yrs to come, with you and the other 2 blokes. Lol. Thanks Richard.
Richard, your reviews from anytime are the best of anyone on Top Gear. Or anyone ever.
I had NTL cable TV when men an motors was on. I remember watching that back in the day.
This man never gets old
Oh he's definitely getting older. The evidence is right here
This man ages like fine wine
This is inspirational to everyone starting out with anything.
You have to give it to Richard, is presenting style has been consistent and just as funny then as he is now..... And he hasn't changed one bit, apart from his hairstyle 😂
Ha, Richard's reaction to himself talking is exactly how I yell at myself when I look back at my old work! MOOD!
Richard, as an American viewer, you are another National Treasure of England’s entertainment industry and, so far, I have enjoyed every show I have seen you in! Thank You immensely for being the great Englishman that you are.👍
I still rewatch topgear seasons, and it's so wild to see Hammond aged up in this video.
love how Hammond rips his younger self a new one LOL
If James and Jeremy did this that'd be neat.
OR if Jeremy and James watched these videos of Richard Hammond together. Either or, your pick.
That would be amazing! Two of them watching early videos of the third!! 🤣😂
I watched many of those here ( on CZcams ) over the years. Hammond never change. This are the exact responses I have when I watch videos of myself from 15 years ego.
Hammo!
You still sound and come across exactly the same today when you're excited by something 🤣👍
More of this! Would love to see all the 3 reacting to early Top Gear episodes aswell!
I find it so hard to believe that Richard is 52 he hasn’t aged one bit
He cycles and lives an healthy lifestyle unlike the other two 😒😆
You got have your eyes checked! 😅
He looks fantastic
@@thevinceberry haha true
No he definitely aged, but he aged well.
We have never been bored by you hammond
Bro i need more the legend watching him self grow
All the while I could imagine Jeremy yelling Hammond what are you doing!
amazing to watch this, great thought by drivetribe to do this, and now we need like this from clarkson and james !!
"You should open with one viewpoint, gradually prove it wrong with an entirely different conclusion." If you watched Top Gear enough, you knew this formula and could predict the outcome as fast as Hamster's vintage Mini Cooper Review.
“the i had a son look at that!” really killed me 💀
I still watch these occasionally, MM (Men and Motors) have a YT channel where they still sometimes upload old programmes, from the late 90's to the mid 00's. But where are the motorbikes! 😁
This was a missed opportunity in some ways. I would have loved to see his reaction to reviewing cars like the Perodua Kelisa or Proton Impian. Cars which they later mercilessly bashed on TG. Hoping for a Part 2.
I just can't believe how I used to watch topgear as a young kid and I loved Jeremy infact all 3 of you'll and I can't believe that you'll are so old as I watch the old topgear and grand tour videos again and again you'll r my inspiration ❤
no matter what i still love the trio and always will
"You're only 7" because of course Richard Hammond is (still) currently 32
Hammond (or actually any TV personality) was lucky that he started his career at a time before social media existed when viewers were not able to comment or sh** on the videos and thus accuracy of information was not as critical as today when all you need is for one viewer to point out an error for the whole world to turn against you
rocking since the 70s, keep it up hammond
Ah men, what a great video, what a trip by the side of the great Richard Hammond. I enjoyed every second of it. I love these guys so much, it's just incredible.
“What do you know, you’re only 7!”
Hammond if you see this you were always my favorite in top gear when I was a kid! Clarkson is now on a farming spree and May is bumping his Honda through London 🤣🤣 how times changed
I would love the trio react to their old adventures
"I had a son" when looking at your yonger self is the cutest yet most existential thing i ever heard
I love how Hammond immediately stopped as soon as he saw the beetle, because they (Clarkson, May, and Hammond) always criticized the stock beetle on Top Gear and made a special for the modded beetle dune buggy for Grand Tour
That was hilarious. 😆 Now try with James May reacting to his ‘old’ Top Gear appearances.
This was great, it felt a lot more genuine than the others. I guess whoever put these clips together for him to watch didn't find the Renault Aventime review he did back then, it was proper weird. ACHOO!
His face when he called the Beetle Buddha esk lol. One of the best to ever do it Mr Hammond
We learned on this video that Richard was great and still is.
Lovely to see your reactions to your older videos Richard. Hope there is more to come in the future.
Come on!! We need more these kind of videos😍😍 Can we have Jeremy and James as well??
I do remember those days as I'm getting old too, I used to love watching Men and Motors and Bravo back when they were on the air.
Richard you weren't terrible, you were young and getting used to it and if you hadn't done it we would've lost out on some great Television.
No one gets bored around Hammond, come on!
Obvious statement but Richard has always been an amazing presenter!
Would love to see James and Jeremy do this as well!
From humble beginnings, quite literally. Richard Hammond is a humble bloke.
