(Malaysia boleh! 🇲🇾) And yes, it’s silly to compare a Saga to a M3, and worse when you’re just trying to bash it rather than give an unbiased review. To be fair, that generation of Proton was really good. It was basically a Mitsubishi Lancer under the skin. Although the cars were assembled in Malaysia, most of the parts came from Japan. When these cars were launched in the UK in the late 80s, it was received well, won a number of awards at the British International Motorshow, and sold a lot more than was initially expected.
Sadly, that would be Proton's peak. Apart from the Satria GTI, the rest of their cars have been rubbish to say the least.

I drive economical cars until the wheels fall off. I keep up their maintenance. When the cars get older is when they are by far the most fun. If someone bumps you, no worries. If your doors get dinged, no worries. If major parts fail, your options include selling the car for scrap or replacing with junkyard parts. The creativity behind your solutions can be quite fun. After you collect your assortment of dings, dents, and bumps make sure to park snugly near the new Beemer that is quadruple parked in the far reaches of the parking lot. He'll appreciate your kind gesture. :)

Brand new parts still sold by Proton at a discount. I've bought a brand new engine, gearbox, wiring, suspension, seats and interior plastics. Some parts no longer sold and were cannibalised from a donor car. Sure beats the crap out of my daily driver, a 2012 Peugeot 3008.

It's so true about not having to worry all the time about dents and bumps, I constantly bang my door into the wall of our house and don't even bat an eyelid, I would have probably cried before :D I have come to love my car, decorated it with decals, given it a name and it's become quirkily adorable. Easy to be all snooty about a cheap car when you have a plush job driving fancy cars and getting well paid doing it, but curiously not everyone has that, some of us really work for a living and must of the time not getting much money in the end of the month, and the only item that matters for us in buying a car is the price and that it get us from A to B protected from the rain, but of course that is something very far from your universe, something that only happens to real human beings not TV characters ...

Don't knock the old Proton - it's basically a Mitsubishi Lancer made in Malaysia. OK they were a pretty unremarkable device even then, but they were well built and reliable. These cars finished off Lada in the UK back in the early 1990s and showed that budget cars don't have to be laughable awful cars.

Except the Proton isn't still running.
And come off it, there are loads of British and European cars still running, as in still running as of NOW.
My British car is still going and it's one year off as old as the Proton in the video and it's far from on its own.
My ex Landrover 90 (1987 model) is still on the road. My old 1993 Clio 16v is still on the road. My old 1997 Golf Vr6 is still on the road. And that's a comically small representation of surviving British and European cars from my personal past ownership.
