“You’re not a cutter, I’m a cutter” Best Line Ever! Absolutely a Rewatchable”
Im 29 and grew up watching this with my family to the point where it became a family classic. I never understood why no one references this movie despite it being an oscar winning fantastically rewatchable movie. I was so happy to see them do this!
as a half italian kid born around time this came out I remember feeling stressed and insecure about the unfamiliar-to-me hate for the I.T. (pronounced ighty). that's not a full explanation, but might reduce what might have been noisy fans proud of the racing prowess. Somewhat alienating the second most prominent ethnicity in the film business arguably, and major population in media empire of the time, NY, and that might not have helped. That plus the whole embracing of Indiana and cycling is too far a bridge for many.
Speak for yourself. “Refund?!” is heard in our house routinely.
Peter Yates directed so many absolute bangers in the 70s, yet he's barely remembered these days. Breaking Away, Bullitt, Friends of Eddie Coyle, The Hot Rock, The Dresser, Robbery, etc. Incredible run as a director
@atatur123 Absolutely. Robbery is excellent, basically the movie that got Yates the Bullitt gig.
@@mattymac1399 Well said. That's a highly underrated thriller set in Swinging London. Plus it has Stanley Baker of Zulu fame.
@atatur123 Right on, Stanley Baker was The Man.
Friends Of Eddie Coyle rules!!
@breakercassidy6946 Great film. It's one of my crime film faves of that year, along with The Outfit & Charley Varrick.
I’m hit and miss on older movies, but Breaking Away is fuckin great. Give it a shot if you haven’t watched it.
Ebert going off on Bloodline mid review of another movie is akin to the prolonged attack on cyclists during this discussion. Brilliant.
The funny thing about this is that The Cutters are an actual team and have won 15 races since they started in 1984.In the early 1980’s following the release of Breaking Away, the very successful Delta Chi fraternity’s cycling team left their house amidst a fallout and took the name Cutters as their now ‘independent’ team moniker. Their first race under this name was in 1984, which they won.
As an IU grad who really loves Breaking Away and Little 500, this podcast has never been directed more solely at one person than this has at me.
These choices are insane
Picking older movies is insane? Or movies you never heard of?
Pantheon of 70s sports movies should include “One on One” !!!
I'm convinced Bill has never seen The Hunt for Red October
He's spending too much time watching Brady Bunch reruns
I hate to be the one to tell you guys this, but the great Steven Bochco is unfortunately now the late great Steven Bochco, having died in 2018.
If you're featuring him on The Watch, make that a 3 part series, at least. His failures are more interesting than most people's successes. And his successes are legendary.
Oh, and his memoir, Truth Is A Total Defence, is full of excellent anecdotes, including one of the best producer vs actor stories of all time about Daniel Benzali, or as Bill calls him, 'the bald guy' from Murder One. I won't spoil any of that here, but to say I was crying with laughter, and you won't be disappointed.
as an attorney, political and social philosopher, and girl-dad, I volunteer to take the bullet and navigate swiftly through a Rewatchables of Revenge of the Nerds without being canceled.
1:23:57 every time I hear Robert Townsend’s name I internally plead for Hollywood Shuffle.
How could you forget Stand By Me as a classic foursome movie?
Really enjoyed the episode and absolutely adore Breaking Away. I think Dave is delightful and extremely cute especially when he is pretending to be italian. I am a cyclist (not in LA!!!!) and I find the cycling element in this film totally believable and extremely well shot. Dave's bike is amazing. A great film, about growing up, finding out about who you are, friendship, sport, future....Everything you want in a sport/coming of age film.
I saw "Breaking Away" at the theater. (On Roger Ebert's recommendation!) Just a wonderful father / son story!
CR doing Italian Wayne Jenkins nearly had me swerve off the road.🤣
Bill, Chris, Sean: You live in California. You have to know that UC Davis was and is a famous college town that is a cycling mecca.
One, they're all transplants. Two, California is huge. Expecting someone in LA to know about Davis is like expecting someone in Atlanta to know about Cincinnati. Three, California has about a dozen cycling Meccas, and Davis is one of the lesser. It doesn't have the mountains or the natural beauty of many other places.
Paul Dooley is great in O.C. and Stiggs. That movie gets a lot of hate but I find it to be strangely entertaining.
Sports Movie Month should last forever.
That quarry is still there and nothing has changed (as of 2011). There are security guards that patrol a little bit but I have never been caught. They mainly patrol cars parked there so take a bike instead!
The best sports movie of all time is: Best of Times ( with Robin Williams and Kirk Russell)....hands down!
Opie Taylor’s closed during the pandemic. Was a great burger joint
Amazing how CR just interrupts again and again.
Cycling is so visually appealing. There is a reason NBC is willing to pay and devote hours on NBC, USA and Peacock to Tour de France and Vuelta Espana. The French countryside and Alpine valleys are just stunning. And I bet you guys are getting caught doing some dumb shit on your cellphone, which is why cyclists yell at you in traffic in LA. Facts.
The Italians would have come to Indianapolis because there is a very famous cycling track called the Velodrome and nearby Marian University has had one of the great cycling programs for decades.
Loved this movie so much...happy to debate 'Out of Africa' with you all 😁
Bottle Shock starring Chris Pine and Alan Rickman is an underrated wine movie. 1:29:12
is the QT book they're referring to: Cinema Speculation? On Audible it looks like QT reads the first and last chapters
"That Thing You Do" Welterweight challenger.
Italian Wayne just sounds like a guy from southern Italy.
I'm number 4.... Yeah? I have never even heard of this movie, but checked the cast out and it appears to be well worth the watch, GO ELLIS!
raised on great FOURsoumes: Wizard of Oz, All in the Family, Star Wars, Stand By Me, The Goonies, Ghostbusters, TMNT, The A-Team, Simpsons, Seinfeld, Golden Girls, Girls, Sex and the City, Entourage, South Park, Family Guy, Married w/ Children, even by the end of FBDO it's four young protagonists. Did Will Hunting roll as a foursome? Beautiful Girls? Toy Soldiers? The Wire?
Executioner's Song is Utah.
I just need Without Limits and American Flyers
Bad News Bears, North Dallas Forty to finish 70s sports month.
“Executioners song” was Utah not Nebraska
Italian Wayne Jenkins made me do a spit take lmao
I loved this movie as a kid. Bon Giorno!
Come on Bill, stop with the BS on Hunt For Red October. One of the most rewachable movies of all time.
Such an underrated movie. I hope that sometime it gets a big revival among Gen Zs
They don't watch movies?
Steven Bocho died April 1, 2018.
Where is the EXORCIST and DELIVERANCE? HAVE THEY BEEN TAKEN DOWN FROM CZcams? PLEASE RESPOND.
Moms for Liberty black op?
Can you guys please do some actual rewatchable movies again
Bullitt for example! They keep mentioning it but...
CR’s unfortunately wearing the jersey of a team that placed 10th in the Serie A this year. Should’ve worn black and blue brother, Forza Inter!
"Sicario" Rewatchables next?
I’ll normally listen to the pod even if I haven’t heard of the movie but this one is just so old and I’ve never heard of it is a rough combo.
I agree. Newer movies are just better than old movies. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is so much more rewatchable than Casablanca, The Godfather and Citizen Kane.
I groan alot seeing the old movies they keep doing that no one has seen but i actually highly recommend this one and it still feels like a modern movie because of how smart and witty the script is. Worth a 90min watch. I showed it to my fiance and she was really into it which proved my point about how easy to love it is
@@nikosvault
😅😅
This is a good movie.
@@nikosvault Yikes man. If you don't like the Godfather then maybe you should sit out the movie conversations for a bit

Quaid could not have been effective or even cast in "American Flyer" for the reason he got sick for "Wyatt Earp." He would have had to lose weight to be a bike racer in American Flyer, and it would have nearly killed him.
He could have played the Cannibal. He had the physique of a sprinter.
Dudes. Jericho Mile is not a good movie. Can you please stop putting it on your top 10 list. I really think CR is afraid to tell Bill that not only is it MM’s worst it is essentially unwatchable, let alone rewatchable. Note when you brought it up with MM he quickly changed subjects. Even he knows it’s terrible . Otherwise great podcast this week.
Have the cyclists converged yet? Lycra enmasse is scary! A lot of people have no patience for others and when it comes to cyclists, many of us end up dead because of it. Don't add kindling to that fire. Any group, golfers, tennis players, runners, cyclists, skateboarders, rollerbladers (is that still going on?) will have its share of jerks. I ride. The same people that are jerks on bikes are assholes in their cars or whatever else they do. If you think it sucks having to lift your foot from the gas pedal for a second or swing around a cyclist, imagine what it's like to be on a bike when a Tesla silently sneaks up on you at warp speed. One is a slight inconvenience, one is fucking scary. Admittedly, I don't ride in very urban areas because cars suck. Especially black BMWs. There is a 3 foot rule, from the widest part of the bike or rider to the nearest part of the car. I'm out there trying to stay fit. Have a little fun. I guess what I'm saying, don't knock what other's do for fun. And have a little grace. I appreciate the humor, but there is a lot if ire out there towards us and it kills. Dig the show!
I'm old enough to remember this movie and I can tell you it wasn't watchable then and it's not now. Simmons is just trolling the audience or he's mentally ill.
I suffered through this horrible movie and can’t believe any of you actually think it’s good. American Flyers is a far superior bike movie.
Neither are very good at the cycling part of things.
What? Again!! This movie ISN'T a rewatchable. Come on guys, do a real rewatchable movie like when u did in your earlier years.
They can’t just do the top 100 most rewatchable movies in a row. They gotta mix up the top 500 and let some new ones come out during the process.
Stop moaning about a FREE podcast
It's not even top 2000. I moan
This movie is very rewatchable.
@@DAR31 Agreed. I know I've watched it at least 4 times.
Another Snoozer 😴 This is literally worse than Blades of Glory and even Corky Romano would be more entertaining. 😂
