Agree with a lot of the comments here. I'm a 27 year old black man that loves movies and really enjoyed this one, which I'll add I saw today on Father's Day in Baldwin Hills in a packed theater that was loving it too. But this podcast is a tough listen sometimes and this episode was especially tough, because it's missing a bit of diversity of thought. A voice like Van's would've been perfect for this episode.

Don't do meet and greet with Elmo it's a giant tmnt2 version of Elmo that does nothing but terrify. Don't introduce your kids to characters that are slowly suffocating in their costumes. It's hard to catch a terrified two year old in a crowd.

Believe me or not, I think this film could have a sequel with the two leads. It would be, not about romance, but about the final days of the Bob Harris character. He's alone and dying and somehow Charlotte enters into his life and helps him deal with his death. Another expression of love, as it were.

Re: Roosevelt, “despite being a member of the Republican Party…” Tell me, what party was Lincoln in? This far back any baggage you have with party affiliation today isn’t going to fit. Same with your characterization of Roosevelt as “progressive” vis a vis the progressive party - it doesn’t mean he was a bodies and spaces liberal type. Woodrow Wilson was a major leader in the Progressive Movement and he was insanely racist even by the standards of his time. I’m surprised you have such a high opinion of T. Roosevelt given the tenor of every other political comment you make on the show. Roosevelt was: - a fancy lad rich kid - a police commissioner - a self-aware imperialist - someone who thought war was a fun adventure, basically an excuse to dress up with your friends and larp as a cowboy He very much did usher in the modern America in the sense of self consciously extending American military and colonial/adminstrative power as far around the world as possible. Both as VP and as president. He didn’t fight in Spain, he fought the Spanish for control of Cuba (he is largely responsible for starting the Spanish American War as VP), leading to America’s de jure dominion over Cuba until Castro’s revolution. Think of how integral the anti colonial movement is to the dynamics of the Cold War, to global capitalism, etc. He set it in motion with America in the driver’s seat. Given everything else you say about politics (decrying copaganda, making fun of MAGA) I’d think you would also have a more critical assessment of Roosevelt’s legacy but I guess not. Possibly bc you don’t know as much as you think (ex: saying he was a solider fighting in Spain). But please say again how stupid school is.

My guess is that, just like every other company Sony has purchased in the last 5 years, they’ll close them all in about 1-2yrs

Attack on Titan on IMax would be a pretty cool movie night option

This is definitely bad for movies. Less regulation will only mean the large corporations behind these studios will get bigger and bigger, and especially more powerful while decreasing risk as much as possible because of all the private equity firms that are bought in to them after the 2007 recession. Practically it will mean filmmakers, actors, writers, you name it, will get squeezed out more and more, and the focus will shift even more towards 'safe' movies, while at the same time raising prices, introducing ads, blocking password sharing, and so on.

This constant complaining about anything over 2 hours being too long is so dead. Just admit you don’t have the attention span, the movies are GOOD and a lot of times the length is justified

I like that Alamo plays old classics and other foreign/cult films but man I can’t be alone in how annoying the servers are, it’s so distracting people ordering full meals and the waiters constantly coming in and out of the movie is just not an ideal experience. It was cool the first time but I still prefer a AMC or an actual independent theater

0:15 growing up, Charles was probably warned by his mother about white people talking to black people like this “Charles [gestures to Charles] you are the simpleton here, let us whites condescend to you for a moment” and then Charles heroically interrupts him at 0:50 to be like “yeah listen man I actually know what you’re talking about, I wrote a piece involving Alamo years ago, enough” -- then at 0:54 Sean is furious at having been interrupted, look how he *glares* at the *INSOLENT* Charles when he asks “how did that go for you?” - Sean always asks these add-ons to make the person jump through hoops, it is a way to assert/regain control
