    Some Kind Of Wonderful. Worst movie of the bunch/best soundtrack. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a favorite of mine. I loved John Candy.

      i dunno. i don’t recall She’s Having a Baby being all that great. If I had to pick a worst of the bunch I think I’d lean towards that one. Yes PT&A is a classic. Saw that the day it opened.

    The Pretty in Pink soundtrack is fire! The extended mix of Brilliant Mind is on of my favourite tracks from the 80s. Hughes did have a knack for choosing good tracks 🙂

    Ferris Bueller does in fact have an official CD soundtrack release. It is from La La Land Records. Limited to 5000 units. Released in 2016.

    I also have Sixteen Candles. Planes Trains and Automobiles and Weird Science on vinyl, The Great Outdoors on CD, and Career Opportunities, which is a great soundtrack. I love Some Kind of Wonderful. At the time, I had a crush on Mary Stuart Masterson's character. Dutch has a great unreleased soundtrack, and the box set is worth picking up. And yeah, the vinyl for She's Having a Baby had HE and SHE as side A and B. I also have the Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack that was released by La-La-Land. I dunno, I love all those movies, some more than others, but still. He also had a pretty good soundtrack for Reach the Rock, his most obscure film. The music was from bands on his son's Hefty Records label. Post-Rock bands like Tortoise, The Sea and The Cake and Polvo.

      Reach the Rock. There’s something no one ever talks about. I may pick up the box set someday. I do remember being a little bummed the Annie Golden tune from 16 Candles wasn’t on it.

    Greetings, Steve. I have "el zippo" of the John Hughes soundtracks...but if you check out my cd collection on Discogs, you'll see I probably have 50% of the songs on various discs. I do have all his films on disc, my favorite being "Sixteen Candles," though "The Breakfast Club" was the most memorable in my life. Hughes brought that film to USC for a preview screening, with Q&A, when I was a cinema grad student. At the end of evening, Hughes was engulfed by a couple hundred undergrads, all telling him that he was "the only one who understands them." Hughes was trapped, my friend, the lead TA, looked at me and mouthed the word "Help." Since I was built like a middle linebacker back then and most of the cinema students knew me from their "Intro. to Cinema" class, I pushed my way though, grabbed Hughes' arm and announced in my deepest baritone voice "Clear the way, Mr. Hughes needs to leave now." Charlton Heston would have been proud of my parting of the coed sea. I got him out of the theater, the studio publicists came running up to him and I went back into the theater to get my then-girlfriend and go home. Needless to say, the water cooler chat on Friday was abuzz with "Did you hear what Karl did last night?"

    I use to have 100s of soundtracks on CD. I just talked about this subject on my Sunday podcast. Pretty in Pink was the one of all of those I would bring back into my collection. Hughes did make get use of the Brat Pack

    Awesome collection Steve! I think Some Kind Of Wonderful is my favorite of the Hughes soundtracks. But it changes all the time.
    I have that Hughes Mixtape box set in my Birthday wishlist as we speak😅 I really want it because I'm crazy and also for the Ferris Bueller stuff that we have never got "officially".

    Hi Steve - Ferris had a cool Cabaret Voltaire poster for Microphonies but their music wasn't played in the film. Agree that Pretty In Pink is the best soundtrack & it attracted many to the excellent Psychedelic Furs Talk Talk Talk album. Simpleminds best albums were before The Breakfast Club. Sons & Fascination & New Gold Dream my favorites.

    • @STEVEHEROLD
      @STEVEHEROLD  Před měsícem +1

      hey david. my memory of ferris’ posters were he had a lotta cool band ones hanging up. i have a soft spot for Simple Minds’ Once Upon a Time but I understand the fans didn’t like that direction band went in. I have pretty much all the earlier albums too and like them a lot.

    I own 5 movies that John Hughes directed (Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I also own 4 that he wrote, like the first 3 Vacation movies and Home Alone.
    Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club are probably two of the best soundtracks from what he’s worked on, but most of these have at least a theme song that’s memorable, like Holiday Road from Lindsey Buckingham from Vacation.

    • @STEVEHEROLD

      Breakfast Club soundtrack? Really? I don’t know outside of the Simple Minds song I didn’t like it that much. Lotta instrumental stuff. Pretty in Pink for me is easily best soundtrack.

      @excelsiormoviereviews Před měsícem +1

      @@STEVEHEROLD yeah, you’re probably right about The Breakfast Club, but Wang Chung has a song on the soundtrack. A lot of memorable songs, like Oingo Biongo for the Weird Science theme. I actually don’t own any of these soundtracks.

    I've seen all the John Hughes films except Some Kind Of Wonderful. The Breakfast Club is my favorite of his but the soundtrack of Pretty In Pink is definitely the best. If my memory is correct, Molly Ringwald played John Hughes Pretty In Pink for him and said that he should use that song in the film. She was a huge Psychedelic Furs fan I believe.

      you’re not missing much when it comes to Some Kind of Wonderful. If ya seen Pretty in Pink ya pretty much saw Some Kind…. I’ve heard that about Molly Rindwald before. There’s a great photo of her and Anthony Michael Hall record shopping during production of Breakfast Club.
