  • @stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147

I love Greatest Hits and constantly praise them. Since I decided to limit my collection I do a lot of greatest hits. I may get a few albums from an artist but rarely will I try to be a completist anymore. I like the hits!

  • @TheVinylRecordMission

Hey there, Steve. This makes so much sense. A good first step toward purging records one only listens to for 1 to 3 songs. One must admit that Bowie’s greatest hits of 20 songs actually qualify as great songs. The same goes for the Stones. ✌🏽

  • @BryersMusicShowcase

I have the same Bangles and Flock of Seagulls CDs. I can understand Elton John and David Bowie, I only had a greatest hits for a number of years before buying thier albums. Great video Steve! 😄

  • @davidellis5141

Hi Steve - Definitely agree with many of the 80's picks & even Bowie & The Stones stopped making good records in the early 80's. Scary Monsters & Emotional Rescue the last good albums by both.

  • @tarrtruck2869

Yeah, I couldn't agree more with your assessment on the greatest hits collections of many of those bands you mentioned. I pretty much have most of those CDs you displayed and if I want to condense my listening pleasure to the hits, I do. Aerosmith, Elton John and most 70s bands to me are greatest hits only. That Rolling Stones and David Bowie two CD disc cover a lot of turf and would do the casual listener just fine. No problem with that. I do the same things with other bands as well.

  • @mad4vinyl802

I love a good greatest hits collection. I'm going insist on Men At Work's first album. Run DMC - Please reconsider...🤔BOWIE - Those are fighting words! Elton has a great, very comprehensive CD box. To Be Continued... I could get away with only having 40 Licks; although I do love their early blues numbers.

  • @RandyforRoyals

I'm with you on a lot of these. I do have the Bowie and Elton hits collections but I have a lot of their albums as well (the 70's for Elton). I think they miss a lot of songs that I like. The Stones? I don't know what to say as I have all of their albums. I will say that The Bangles debut is worth having and the hits collection can take care of the rest.

  • @Harrispilton22

Your risking the VC wrath with some of these Steve! I would only argue with The Bangles..their first album ‘All Over The Place’ is Rickenbacker Jangle pop heaven...& crucially still cheap on Vinyl. My pick would be Squeeze.

  • @JeffMcCormack777

I was always one of those anti-greatest hits. But now, later in life, owning so much music, there are quite a few bands I really only needs the best of releases for, especially on vinyl, which is what I buy the most. Sadly, I still feel like I may be missing some of the better stuff from the band. With Aerosmith, I would probably choose a later best of that has the early and later hits, similar to that huge double release like the Bowie, were you get so much more in a single release.

  • @jdeluis

With CD I don’t mind picking up individual artist titles, especially when you’re able to pick them up for a $1. With Vinyl, I steer more towards picking up greatest hits album for a lot of artist with how expensive new pressing cost and used titles being difficult to find at a decent price.

  • @worldsforgottenboy

perioddd you ended that flop elton john exactly! Madonna ended him

  • @TheAlanRosenbergShow

Love this topic - I'm with you on The Bangles. Thompson Twins, Altered Images, Mental As Anything, Flock Of Seagulls (I actually saw them live back then), Eddy Grant, Blink 182 (my kids love them), Run DMC I don't even own a comp and no plans to. I have two Men At Work comps and studio albums....not sure why. I have that Eddie Money hits CD, but his debut and some others are pretty good. I'm a big southern rock guy and 38 Special are pretty good, but not a favorite of mine. Greatest Hits for them is a good one. I have every Aerosmith album.....and I'm not sure why. I never listen to them. David Bowie.....ok.......ummmm......... yea....no. He's amongst the greatest. I have every album and listen to them. But that is a great greatest hits album - he has a ton of them. Elton John....those early classics are largely great. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road alone is essential. If you wanna stick to greatest hits - he has much better than those two. Rolling Stones - you're not kidding, I fell off my chair, broke my nose and went unconscious. Uhhh I'm speechless. But I'll never unsubscribe. I'm just depressed now. Heartbreaker is one of my favorites of all time too. You know I love Goats Head Soup, and I think its "underrated". It's a deep, mellow album - maybe you should try it....just to get Heartbreaker..... Great video as always. Now I'm going to a bar to get a drink because you don't like the Rolling Stones......40 Licks....uhhh. I listened to it twice and filed it away.

As I got older, I realized I didn’t need to have every artists’ complete catalog and really came to appreciate a good compilation. You mention many of the same artists I own compilations of. It’s really a personal choice. Some bands I own all or most of their catalog, and others, a Hits CD will suffice.

  • @excelsiormoviereviews

Steve, I agree with you some of these, but I own everything from Aerosmith, even though their ‘70s albums are my favorites.

  • @EmbryonicRobot

Hi Steve - I think you are right about a number of these, but Bowie and the Stones! I am speechless. I mean, those are great sets, but wow. I am so disappointed 😞 Where is that unsubscribe button? 🙂But, as long as you don't have Elton's Greats Hits Volume III, everything is fine. I thought you might have mentioned Simon and Garfunkel

  • @silviodraco9393

I have that Men at work record but my favorite song is everything I need. And it is not in the Best.🤦‍♂️😥

  • @themindseyecmh

First artist that comes to mind for me is John Mellencamp. I like pretty much all his hits, and i do (and have in the past) owned some of his albums but really all i need to get by is the hits. Take his Best O Could Do collection and add like 3 of his future hit songs and id be happy

  • @manofmiracles

Totally agree some bands all we need are greatest hits but Steve Aerosmith and Elton john 😯i will no longer be watching your videos 😂🤣
