  • In a company who is as loyal to Peterbilt as Republic Services is to SSI Schaefer (curse them), this is the one oddball side loader that the company possesses.
Back in 2013, in a bid to replace four of the company's Volvo WXLL Heil Co-Collectors left over from NorCal Waste Systems, the fleet manager purchased four used Heil Rapid Rails; three on 2013 Peterbilt 320s, and one on a 2010 Autocar ACX. They were all re-painted, had billboard frames installed, custom oil shelves welded, and numbered in the 700 range (presumably after the route #'s they were originally assigned to).
Over time as wear and tear beat down on them, most of them would lose their billboard brackets, crack arm fittings and railings, the usual stuff. This one actually had its entire custom oil shelf removed after a driver complained the grabbers were slamming into it (hence the empty mounts), and they stuck a tool box above the rear crash bar as a replacement. Despite all of that, they've served their purpose as mostly condo, townhome and spare route trucks well over the course of 10 years.
Rumor has it that these will be replaced with Peterbilt 520 McNeilus M/A's once the yard fully converts to CNG. Not sure how they will fair considering they aren't really known for doing that well on heavy recycling routes.
Special thank you to Fernando for allowing me to film!
    Enjoy the video!

My favorite unit out of the CWS San Jose Yard! The history is interesting on these and I’m glad you got a full video of this truck. She sure needs a little touch ups but other than that she runs smooth.

I wonder why they didn't buy all petes though. And I agree, M/A's are not the best for recycle, the hopper is too small.
