  • After seeing pictures over the last few years of the absurd amount of trash left behind after Mardi Gras celebrations in the French quarter of New Orleans, I decided this year I would drive out and catch it on film. I arrived the night before and walked around to see the masses of people partying on bourbon street. Upon seeing how packed the French quarter was, I knew the next morning was gonna be just as heavy as I had hoped. And sure enough as I walked from my hotel to bourbon street at 3:30 the next morning, I saw some of the biggest & messiest piles of trash I had ever seen. Shortly after arriving, I commenced filming the companies handling their stops. I spent most of my time following the 2 IV CCC Heil 5000s, and the 2 MRU 5000s they switched into after packing out their respective trucks. You can also see some River Parish Heil Pythons, A Waste Connections Mcneilus, A Ramelli Mcneilus, & a clip of the litter cleanup operation. Everything was filmed on bourbon street or a side street.
    Enjoy!
Thanks to all the crews for letting me film!

NOLA is renowned for the efficiency of the civil services from the police and crowd control to turning a city wide garbage dump to one of the cleanest cities in the country in less than 24 hours.
Noted: IV Waste personnel from 10:30ish-11-30ish need to go home and let another crew do the job right. What on earth makes you think you can add trash to an already full hopper over and over? Back in the day we were more aware and diligent with the task of getting the garbage loaded INTO the truck not pouring it back onto the streets. Yes, I speak from experience. Looked forward to Carnival Season for a number of years. The money and perks were fantastic for a college kid.

Awesome video man! New Orleans definitely my favorite place I’ve filmed. The variety of different companies and trucks is awesome and the amount of trash is insane. Huge fan of those River Parish pythons. Sweet video

Quite a lot of trash! Seems like the first rear loader could barely keep up with everything but nice catch with the rear load dumpster. Also was nice to see them using tractors to clean up the loose trash towards the end of the video.

They were leaving behind more than they were taking in some parts.

At certain stops, they would put the extras in the street for three skid loaders to collect. This way they could save some room in the truck for more.

Fantastic video! I'm glad you were able to make it out and get some quality footage of the cleanup process! My favorite shot had to be at 10:50 with the IV crew just packing away and not giving the packer any rest. Really shows just how much trash was produced. Did New Orleans send any trucks to help clean up or did they rely on private haulers to do it all?

Nobody wants those “resources” though. They’re basically worthless. We used to send recyclables to China but they no longer want them.
