What China is most praised now is not the appearance of China's existing technology and economy. But we have passed down the Chinese civilization of 5,000 years. One of China’s five thousand years of cultural enrichment is “和(he)”.

My wife and I begin a 19 day journey to China in five days. We start in Beijing. The first two days we'll be on our own before joining our tour. Besides the usual Beijing attractions, we'll fly to Xi'an for four days before taking the high speed train to Chengdu where we will spend two nights before flying to Lhasa, Tibet where we will spend three nights before flying to Chonqing for a three night cruise on the Yangtze River. We then fly to Shanghai where we will spend the last two nights before the long journey home to Orlando, FL. The two of us are actually looking forward to the high speed train because it will give us a chance to at least view a good bit of the countryside. When I think of China with 1.3 billion people I often wonder how crowded it must be, but as so many videos attest; there remains quite a bit of space for agriculture and so forth. Thank you both for taking the time to make this video!

00:47 Hongqiao is actually an airport and used to be the only international airport in Shanghai before Pudong Airport was in service. Now it serves as a regional hub for mainly domestic flights. The reason the train station is built in Hongqiao is because it can facilitate faster transfer between domestic flights/trains.

Explain: The D series fast train can both run on common track with small stones and high-speed track without small stones, it's 200-250km/h speed, its price is cheaper. The G series high-speed train can only run on the high-speed track for the safety reason, to avoid the small stones hit the train during high-speed running, it's 300-350km/h speed. Both of these 2 series trains the windows are installed the decelerating glass.

Although I have traveled to Shanghai so many times with the high speed railway, I just realized that I haven’t viewed the Hongqiao Station from ground level for a single time. The subway system in Shanghai is so convenient that you don’t even need to get outside of the station to travel around (unless you are really early in the morning I guess). There is actually an Hongqiao Airport just next to the railway station, one that is much smaller and older than the Pudong Airport on the east coast of Shanghai. So you are not completely wrong to say that the station looks like an airport.
As for passport check, it is pretty much because it is harder to have a unified system to scan all passports from different countries. If you are a Chinese citizen, you will have a second generation citizen ID card and you can scan it through the main entrance. Your ticket is also associated with you specifically (to prevent people from buying duplicated tickets and re-selling them for higher prices), so the information is actually recorded in your ID. You can simply scan your ID to board the train without even the need to print the ticket out.
For the broadcast it is just saying welcome and nominating the sponsors of the train. It also gives a little more detailed explanation of the smoke detectors on this smoke-free train and the consequences of triggering or damaging it (the train will come into an emergent stop and you might have legal responsibilities for it).

FWIW, as of now, there is one G Train daily from Shanghai to Chengdu (11 hrs 10 mins) and 4 D trains daily (ranging from 12 hrs 29 mins to 14 hrs 42 mins). It's not just the speed of the train but also the number of stops that determines the duration.

Nice job! Hope you enjoy the rest of journey in China! And allow me to give some suggestion about the itinerary if someone want to explore China from Shanghai all the way to the Western China Chengdu :) Shanghai → Kunming (8 hours by bullet train), then spend 5~7 days experience the most beautiful landscape in China which is Dali → Lijiang → Tiger leaping gorge → Shangli-ra, if you like hiking maybe it's better go further to the Meili snow mountain and have a nice hiking to Yubeng village and Camp one, after these you can take a bullet train from Kunming to Chengdu like 5 hours, I think it's better than take a 14 hours directly train from Shanghai to Chengdu, more relax and more amazing views:)

I still think it's worth it to take a flight for an over 1200 miles trip. Even though it's a bit expensive, if you plan ahead the flight is actually only 15% to 20% higher the price of this 14-hour train, and it took only 3.5 hours. You could save time and money for accomodation from the flight and enjoy the comfort. All these add up to the cost as well.
