Let's go to Beijing, China's capital. I will start the journey in Guangzhou in southern China and I decided to take the Chinese High-Speed train all the way to northern China. This journey is the world's longest high-speed train ride. It's incredible how well all parts of China are connected with the high-speed train. But will the journey from Guangzhou to Beijing be comfortable and stress free? This is my first time taking a high-speed train in China. Let's find out how it is!

Not a strict comparison, but 2298 km in 7h37min from Guangzhou South to Beijing West, while the fastest ICE from München Hbf via Berlin to Hamburg Hbf still needs about 6h to cover a distance of 612km, and the second class ticket costs 70-130 Euros depending on the departure time and the speed of the train in 1 day advance. The similar distance in China from Zhengzhou to Beijing (about 693km) takes only 2.5-3 hours (fastest service 2h11min) and a second class ticket with seat reservation costs 40-45 Euros.

If you prefer to save a bit of budget, let‘s compare the service from Zhengzhou to Beijing with average travel speed around 100-120km/h, similar with ICE München-Hamburg. The D-Train operated by CR200J and the conventional Z-Train, take 6-6.5 hours from Zhengzhou to Beijing, travel on conventional rails with maximum speed of 160km/h, cost less than 20 Euros of a second class with reservation (CR200J D-Trains), or even 20-25 Euros with a cheapest sleeper on Z-Trains.

The price of the train tickets are fixed,it won’t be cheaper if you book it earlier. The price of flight tickets might changed depends on the time you purchase. Some people who are afraid of height they will choose train rather than flights.and also the train always goes on time and you don’t have to arrive to the train station earlier as long as the airport. Even the price are similar ,but the time you spend on train or plane plus the time you heading to the station is similar.and also sometimes the train station is closer to city cbd but the airport is not. So lots of people will choose go by train.

Hello Ken, I did travel a lot by train in Germany and France before I moved to Ireland in 2014. There are tracks in Germany where the trains do run above 300 km/h and in France 330 km/h is often reached. I just read in the news that the German Railway system is in decline quality wise, so it was good to see the Chinese version for comparison. It seems more regulated than in Germany where you often had "Das Leben in vollen Zügen geniesen" especially to and from Frankfurt Airport terminal.
