    They edited it in a way that's hard to see, but if you go frame by frame you can see he's going for his disruptor. I'm not sure that entirely justifies that level of force, since it would have been easy for a changeling to disarm a Klingon or escape, but for what it's worth he was going for a disruptor. It's not exactly clear what the Bajoran legal standards would be lol

    • @Lyze
      @Lyze Před 2 měsíci +2

      I does depend on Bajoran legal standards but it seems to me that if you provoke a fight and lose, you're still responsible for starting the fight. Having been killed from your own stupidity doesn't seem like a ethical reason to charge the victor.
      It also just reeks of BS that Klingons are going to nickpick legal standards when dueling to the death is a cherished way of life. It's like a bully complaining he got a bloody nose because the little kid he was trying to extort lunch money from punched him.

    He stabbed him once. Failing to kill him could of motivated to use a disruptor the second time around. Doesn't matter if the knife wouldn't of killed him. What was he supposed to do? Wait and give the Klingon a second try later? As for the other Klingon. He clearly grabbed, not reach, his disruptor with his right hand. Self Defense.

      I'd imagine they'd have devices set up to record everything being capable of replaying it on the Holodecks, to examine the footage from every angle.

      Star Trek is meant to be semi-utopian. A surveillance state is dystopian.

      @@WardenWolf And yet they can still replay recordings 'scenes', from older ships, including replicating them in a holosuite, so Starfleet, at least has a full recording system on it's ships and stations but DS9 is not a Starfleet made base.

    So were people inhaling parts of him? Do the parts of him that get inhaled by the solids revert to liquid form in their lungs like blood from the samples taken for the blood security screenings?

  • @malkeus6487
    @malkeus6487 Před 2 měsíci +1

    They never show the changelings doing cool stuff like that because of budget limitations. Lack of creativity was their downfall. They could literally become the air in a room and if it wasn't foggy they'd be undetectable.

    • @scottythegreat1
      @scottythegreat1 Před 2 měsíci

      Its a matter of a great story. The Klingons are looking for a reason to murder a changeling legally and write an opera about it.

  • @wakcedout
    @wakcedout Před 2 měsíci

    well its a simple defense in a kilngon court. simply ask openly, did they or did they not openly challenge the changling to combat. any honorable klingon will say yes, because in a war they felt it a duty.
    and after that yes, retort simply "and here now you are taking legal action against the changling who bested you in hand to hand combat...appears the methods of a coward to me."
    want to win against someone in the klingon judicial system, expose how they are acting without honor and that should sway the vote in your favor.

  • @Wraithfighter

    I think its fair to say that, while Laz is getting pilloried here to a certain extent, Odo is being unreasonable. Shapeshifting is one thing, blanketing an entire area in an unnatural, eerie fog without letting anyone know what's going on (and, you know, physically touching dozens of people all at once without anyone's permission) is another entirely, and Odo dismissing the complaints as being anti-Changeling is just showing that he is not being objective here.
    The death being in self-defense I kinda agree with, but Odo should be able to tell that Laz escalated the situation by showing his own weapon in response to a weapon that could not have harmed him, and going for an immediate lethal blow instead of even trying for something non-lethal, which Odo would know is entirely possible.
    Odo just... does this, a lot. He prioritizes the life and safety of changelings outside of the Dominion to massive degrees, and while its for a lot of understandable reasons, and I'm sympathetic about it... he's supposed to be the law on the station. He needs to be able to step back from his personal feelings and do his job, and he's showing that he can't do that here.
