Electric vehicles are expensive and full of tech, for 2022 #Ford is proving that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a lot. The new #F150Lightning in the Pro trim starts at under $40,000 before the $7,500 federal tax credit and this #FordF150Lightning in the video comes to just over $45k as equipped. You get up to 230 miles of range and nearly 500 HP which makes this one of the most enticing new electric vehicles in 2022. #LightningStrikes #FordLightning

Hey guys! We wanted to get this video up quick for you but this a full tour of the 2022 Lightning Pro and even with options, came to about $45k before the $7,500 tax credit. We will be uploading a separate driving video and walk around with a Lariat trim on 5/11 at 6am EST so come back then for full driving impressions!

Can you do it XLT video review please I have a reservation?
"Due to high demand, the current model year is no longer available for retail order. Contact your dealer " for a 30k markup.
We live in a time where $40000 is called crazy affordable. That's what's crazy to me. Great value for sure, but the normal folk can't still afford a 40k payment, you are looking at $800 with 10k down.
I agree. It’s crazy. I know people who make less than me with brand new trucks and I’m like hooowww lol
@@chopsocky2309 yup my coworkers making less than me driving trucks twice as expensive as my car
only if you have 36 months loan…try 60 months…payment will be $500/month
How do you figure $800!?? Lol you’re at around $450 with 10k down and 1.99 interest which typically what goes for good credit and a new vehicle. That’s not taking into account government incentives for new electric cars which can easily move you to that low $400.
yall missing the point, calculate how much you pay for gas, oil changes, and when transmission and other stuff that you will have to repair overtime and 40k is hella affordable.
This truck does not cost $45,000. More like $55,000 - $60,000 after the dealership asks you to touch the floor with both hands so that they can ram you with some dealer markup.
And then , horror of horrors, you will discover that the range isn't as advertised, the battery discharges faster than advertised and overnight as the truck sits...and the battery needs replacing sooner than advertised. Electric trucks are like a Swiss Army knife , with everything except the knife part.
Not to mention the fact 40 000 dollars isn't "crazy affordable" for A LOT of people.
So true! The dealer markup is a damn joke when they advertise vehicles at one price to get you in the door, then slap you hard in your face with all their added fees.
If only there was a way to order a vehicle from your iPhone...
A quick search to find its $57k - $81k
I'm not fancy or picky. This rig would work just fine for me. This is the future right in front of our eyes. Great job, Ford!
Thanks for showing the base model, many are showing the $90k plus Platinum version which is more than 2x the price of the base model. Looks really good for the $$! Great review!
Call it a contractors truck, yet it only comes with 5.5’ bankers box. Absolutely useless for anyone that actually uses a truck for work.
After the $30k “Market Adjustment” it becomes a $75k truck.
Unfortunately true right now.
No Ford won't let people resell the lightning and won't let dealers mark it up either.
@@freddybell8328 bullshit, they will mark it up. A 2022 lariat is over 80k in Canada now, easy.
@@stuligin depending on what it is isnt that about what they cost? f250,f350 lariat?
I would boycot let the trucks sit on the lot for a couple years then buy. How much would they be able to mark up then
I thoroughly appreciate the fact it just looks like a normal truck. Yes, electric vehicles are the future. But that doesn't mean I want to drive a funky-looking spaceship.
I agree but we can also innovate, I feel with this new competition there will be something for everyone but they need to address a few major issues before
I'm sure they will get better with time. Once they get 500 - 600 miles range that will be a game changer.
It's a work truck so all the fancy materials, soft touch, etc. are missing. Nothing to be disappointed about.
And that's a good thing, fancy materials don't hold up if you use your truck as a truck.
I don't think it's a work truck yet. Making the big battery available is a good start and deleting all the techno-geegaws is also good, but a work truck needs a shorter cab and longer bed. A standard short box of 6.5' is a minimum for work so you have room for a contractor's canopy if not a service body. As a tradesman I'm in the market but that's a hard one to get past...aside from the other EV issues of range/charging time, especially when towing.
This "base" model is better and more luxurious than the luxury versions of trucks 10-12 years ago. Great video, well done!
It is extremely nice for a base model, but I disagree. I don’t remember a 2012 King Ranch truck with Vinyl seats and hard plastic on the rest lol.
@@calebniederhofer6529 It is 2022. Adjusted for inflation (not a BEV) the King Ranch would be much more expensive today. King Ranch = Tender Foot with $$$$ who may be happier with a CUV with a bull-bar
@@calebniederhofer6529 Vinyl aside, this truck has more features and creature comforts than a truck from a decade ago. I have a “top of the line” suburban that’s 10 years old now and I feel like a hobo!
Considering every truck guy, modifies his truck this is perfect.
Exactly. I am or was totally happy with my 08 Silverado. Even had remote start. This is all I need.
The antenna works as a warning in Parkimg structures to see how low the concrete beams are, If the antenna scrapes you’re close to scraping the top of your roof
The antenna acts as a clearance check because it’s just about 2-3 above the roof so when you go into a garage and it starts to hit you know your truck is getting close to not fitting.
So that antenna is now an “automatic clearance indicator” for an additional $450.00?
This review made me want the Pro model… 45k is a steal for a 4 door crew cab with 450+ hp. May have to keep an eye out for a future reservation. Thanks for this!
GL getting one for msrp anytime soon, I wanted a mustang mach e and the dealer had a 20k premium… so I’m sure these will be the same
Ford really isn't offering the Pro for customers. They allocated 3% of all orders for MY22.. like 100-200 (leaning towards the 100). It was sold out when Ford opened up orders to just 1200 customers in Wave #1. And 100% will see a price increase for MY23, the pro was priced at $40K in May of 2021, and inflation has soared.

The metals for the batteries are mined with child labor.
Electric trucks are terrible. The battery will die sooner then later if you put it in a work truck. Pulling, payload, off road. All of that will strain the battery faster. Lose your charge quicker and the battery wont hold charge because of, the excess heating from over use and charging.

Ford still uses whip antennas because they work better. Trucks tend to be used in more remote areas. Nice overview, I like how you didn't dwell on the cost cutting. I like what Ford did here. There's too much unneeded stuff on most trucks today.
was looking for this comment, 100%. Ford has done a LOT of market research on this, and this type of antenna is needed by their consumer evangelists.
Exactly, nothing beats a big whip antenna. The shark fins and integrated antennas just don't have the range a classic whip has.
Also because electric motors can cause interference with AM radio waves, so the antenna negates this effect.
Yes. Trucks are workhorses. Too much luxury options are, too much. Hehe. Get an Expedition instead.
Antenna design and AM reception is one of things I do look for when I test drive new cars, as weird as it may sound. The integrated type in most cars have compromised AM reception most of the time. Since the Lightning is electric, the further away you can place the antenna away from the electric motors, the better.
I’m 99% sure no one will get one of these for under 50k with dealer markups

Yep. It's a tremendous value.
If you have not registered already, then good luck getting one in next couple of years or be ready to pay hefty markups. WIth Ford's "Wave" methodology and giving dealerships more control on selecting the candidates in the wave, first day reservation holders are still waiting to convert their reservation into the order. Been telling people that between the F-150 Lighting and the eTransit, Ford is going to revolutionize the commercial EV market. With the two models, it's now more efficient for companies to switch over to EV's, particularly in big cities, where range isn't really an issue because they won't be driving more than 100-150 miles a day while doing jobs/deliveries, and the vehicles can charge back up at company-owned charging stations overnight every night.
It's also hugely beneficial because it allows for better fleet management and reduces cost. With these EVs, it cuts down on maintenance costs because there's no engine to service (so, no oil changes and fewer mechanical breakdowns), no fuel cards to hand out or added fuel costs to manage, eliminates fuel costs and wasted gas from engine idle time while doing deliveries, and also if enough companies get onboard, it could significantly reduce emissions. Particularly in cities like Los Angeles that have an air pollution problem.
I think the only thing Ford needs to do is build up their charging network by striking deals with large grocery chains like Walmart, Target, Kroger, Albertson's, Walgreens, 7-Eleven, and so on, and get them to create designated areas (preferably in front of the stores) that allow people to charge up while they shop/run errands. They also should heavily invest in getting companies to adopt their charging system at their company facilities. If they can do that, they can win the EV market.
The biggest issue is battery lifespan. All that saved maintenance does no good if, like Tesla, you have to spend upwards of $20k to replace the battery after 7-8 years.
I think that's a valid concern... particularly, the amount of charge/discharge cycles a battery can handle. But, if you can get 5-8 years out of a battery, when the average lifespan of a fleet vehicle is about 5-10 years, I think it's worth the trade-off. Especially if you're saving in other maintenance costs over the course of that time.
Combine that with government tax credits and incentives for using electric vehicles, I think it'd be worth it.
To be fair, the only thing Ford need to do is produce enough of these. If you cant get your hands on the truck, why would you build up charging stations for a fleet of them?
Whatever they produce people will buy, and they need numbers out there to make any change (including all EV manufacturers, charging is mostly the same)
@@plmn93 a new diesel is around that already to replace and they are no where near as reliable as the 80s-early 00s diesels

Your meaning of "crazy affordable." Is alot different than mine. 40k is a huge amount. Lol.
Exactly. Having a truck payment of $800 or more is a mortgage. I noticed there's not a stripped down work version of this. 50 years ago the longest loan available was 36 months, & the average cost of a vehicle was only 40 to 50% of average annual salary. Now the average cost of a vehicle is over the average annual salary. Greed is a helluva drug.

Electric trucks are terrible. The battery will die sooner then later if you put it in a work truck. Pulling, payload, off road. All of that will strain the battery faster. Lose your charge quicker and the battery wont hold charge because of, the excess heating from over use and charging.
Based on 20 yrs of battery construction tools and machine usage.
@@mjuberian , the Toyota V8 engine was awesome.

Pro has insane value, I don't need expensive Tesla products, I need affordable EV, thanks Ford!
Great review. Have been watching the Redline reviews for years and I must say that they are the best and most concise.
YOu must be exhausted. Da dum.
Looks amazing! I hope everything goes smooth for Ford!
With that plastic grill its handy to have that trunk just behind it. That way when you smack a deer at 55 mph he loads himself lol
They use that antenna because it works.
I am not on board with the whole EV thing right now, however, the increased storage and increased carrying as a result is defiantly a big plus in the right direction.
The 🐎 power levels are impressive BUT the smart move would be wait 4-5yr for Ford and the other truck makers to wring out the problems, flaws.
@@DavidLLambertmobile i agree, long term daily usage data will help sway me, or not.
it will never be a practical thing for some of us but for many it will be. Think how many people who live in the city, work in the city and their bed has never seen anything in it. Same for fleet vehicles that only work within the city. It wont be the choice for heavy duty use which is why ford said this week they split into two and ford blue will continue to provide ice and diesel trucks. They said they dont forsee a replacement for heavy duty applications for a decade or more. Being a super duty owner that tows heavy loads I completely agree its not practical for my lifestyle.
I will NEVER be on board with it because of many reasons. The EV is the Macarena, Milli Vanilli, or Pet Rock of the vehicle world.
Being a long time Ford fan I have to say I'm impressed with this truck but not enough to give up my F250 4x4 390 hard working truck 🤨
No way in hell would I buy an electric pickup for $40,000. Not on my worst day, pal.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 I'm not your pal, Hun 🤨 If you had read my comment you would realize that I wouldn't either for any $ amount.
@@fordtuff2600 haha, what year is your f250? sold me 73 f350 a year ago
Awesome review and I like all the basic stuff I kinda dislike that trucks have become like high end and plush I definitely like the direction they went with this pro model. And you did an awesome job on the general over view of the whole truck thank you so much!!! Im super curious about the electric truck thing and glad one company went with a more standard style rather than getting all flashy and futuristic!!
Wait till you drive one, you will never want gas engine again.
When you work from home, 40k is "affordable"? 😂😂
Great review. I really like the package and price as pointed out. Definitely one to consider.
I honestly like not having the full bar running light in the front. I feel that it looks better.
I like that it actually looks like a regular truck and not some futuristic space ship looking rocket turd.
Great review, nice work on this one ford this one’s pretty basic but very practically priced. Put an 8 foot bed on it and a lumber rack and I’m in!
And no differential for off road fun. I'm in
