Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, in the twillight of my life these understandings have passed into contentment. Love, Liberty and Time. Once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward. And love most especially mio carro. Unity was the beginning of the end for Assassin’s Creed. No matter the good qualities of the new or the bad qualities of the old, the older games had heart. A distinct identity of their own with characters going on their own distinct journeys. They always started arrogant and naïve then growing through their battle scars to realize something profound about the journey and battlefield that is life.
Maybe it’s nostalgia glasses but it makes me sad I haven’t been truly invested in an Assassin’s Creed game since Black Flag

It's not nostalgia. Those games had soul, a genuine attempt at a game studio trying to make a good game while telling a passionate story.
Nowadays, it's mostly "content," as all things are.

This is what happens when a series goes on too long. They become soulless cash cows. This is true for all forms of media. Look at the MCU. Started great. They didn’t just feel like superhero movies in the beginning. They had substance.
The longer it went on, the worse it got. That’s the same with Assassins Creed. Though gameplay got better (objectively), the substance of the stories faded away.

Syndicate still had all that. It was what Unity was supposed to be. Unfortunately, Unity has damaged the public's trust in AC and so Syndicate was scrutinised far more than it should've been.
Origins was definitely a great revamp of the series with the new traversal and combat systems, same way AC3 was all those years ago. The story was definitely interesting too.
But then they just took all the wrong notes and didn't make Origins a one-off kind of game, story wise, and that's where they lost me completely.

    • @user-uq7tz2hw7c
      @user-uq7tz2hw7c Před 2 měsíci +1

You are not alone, I've said this forever. Revelations theme is not only a bit nicer to listen to (in my opinion), but it's also used more effectively and has several different variations of it made for specific cutscenes.
Meanwhile, Ezio's family is only used in AC2 in the opening, ending, and during races (for some reason). It's an awesome theme, but AC revelations' OST feels a lot more tailored for the story and mood of each individual time it's used.
I also think it's more emotional. Ezio's family is about loss. But Revelation's theme is about accepting old age. Both Ezio and Altair's journeys are about learning that one man cannot live long enough to fix the world. There will always be problems. Altair dedicated his entire life to the brotherhood. His last message to Ezio was to let go. "If only I have said, that's enough. I have seen enough for one life". He compelled Ezio to realize his work has to be continued by others (Desmond) and that he should trust the next generations of Assassins and enjoy the rest of his days with the woman he loves, and eventually his daughter too.
Revelation's theme is about an arc. The arc of two man's lifetimes. It's more powerful and unique than the loss and revenge tropes used in AC2.

I will defend the newer game AC Valhalla a bit. The game dragged on, sure, but the ending wasn't bad and quite emotional with good lines: Eivor coming to gripes with his father, him leaving his axe, him saying "everything else," and such. Also, the scene of the "true" birth of the Templars is also emotional with the music and so on.
AC Valhalla had the same writer as AC IV: Black Flag (Darby McDevitt), that's why it's better at hitting the emotional moments

I remember being unsure how on the nose Ezio's first 'suit up' scene was when I first watched it. But then Ezio became a damn force of nature. Now that suit up feels like a destiny beginning. The Templars had no idea what they created and unleashed that night. Not until is was far too late.

Stopped playing AC after Syndicate, it always felt off after that. Like the spirit of the series was gone , hope they don't rape Far Cry in the future like that (FC6 is amazing and feels like proper installment of the series).

Edward was never a real Assassin, he just casually said yes just before the final mission and he sailed back to England and that story was never told

I just don't understand people say that "they" are just being nostalgic and such and so on. Like dude, it is true that at the least lore, story, and moment to moment wise the old AC games are much much better than the modern games. Most modern AC games are just here the very impressive opening part, and then story dump at the end.

Now that Ubisoft can't produce quality story driven games, all we can ask is just create remakes of the original AC from 1 to black flag, that way they can focus on enhancing it even further and work on graphics and visual showcase, it's really a win win sceanario

Why did older assassin's creed games used to have terrible audio quality especially on the voices? It honestly sounds like they used MP3s at 64 kb/s or something.
Even AC4 had this problem, it was only fixed in Unity.

Syndicate wasn’t really AC experience. It require minor rpg elements force you to do side quest to earn gears and process further. I called it semi-AC. AC’s long gone since Unity.

We are gamers. not movie watchers. so for us the experience in playing the game comes first then the story. from prince of persia trilogy to assassin's creed 4 the franchise had managed to give us good gaming experience. from parkour to fighting. not stealth tho. hitman is better for those assassin tactics. but after that bugs, un realistic parkour and bad stories had made the game more dull. so they rebooted the game using rpg elements. changing so many stuffs. the franchise had been divided amongst fans
