RAGE was a weekly Thursday night party that started in 1988 at the height of Acid House fever. RAGE was a different beast. While it certainly channeled some of that Acid energy, it pitted it against the new and exciting sounds emanating from Belgium, Amsterdam, Detroit, Sheffield, Essex and Hackney and in turn created a new style, a new sonic attitude, and energy in the process. Rumbling bass-lines, narcotic synth rushes and roughly chopped and sped-up breakbeats all merged into a style that we now know as Jungle. Nothing like this had been heard before, this was a brand new style and it was coming out of London's West End and Fabio & Grooverider were the people firmly behind it.

I worked in Heaven in 1988 - 1989, Collecting glasses. I remember having to go to my day job straight from the venue. Continued going through to 1993. Best years of my life. :-)
Rage was next level went regs from 90 to 92 then Labs on Friday then warehouse or fields rave on Saturday wicked times lost but not forgotten
I remember one night prodigy played there and sl2 🕊 🕊🕊
Oh my days. What memories. The queue, under the Arches, Villiers Street full of happy people, the beerhead suits stuffing McDonalds walking past wondering what the fuss is about on a Thursday schoolnight, us members getting in quick - free on your birthday and goldticket nights.....Horrace, selling his tunes in the foyer. The best soundsystem at the time. The best music, we witnessed the evolution of dance music every Thursday. Coming out, driving home buzzing. Thanks to everyone who went and contributed. The BEST times.
aclubcalledRAGE Them Thursday nights were the best ,such good memories and loved going upstairs to listen to Trevor fung to warm up for the main event downstairs.Even made a record called horrace wanted hardcore as we took him a record we made and he said it's ok but its hardcore people wanted by the way we purposely spelled his name wrong "horrice wanted hardcore"just to have a dig back in our own way lol
@@russ8889 Yep, so much good music upstairs and down week after week. My heart goes out to all the players at RAGE and to the crowd who loved it, horns and all.
Love it. I wish i was alive in this era
Gotta add that there's also the educational '30 Years of Rage' compilation that came out this year. Each and every track from there has its own history and it's simply massive how this Big duet has mixed up those different styles. Respect is due to these legendary innovators, we all owe them lots. Love live the Fabio & Grooverider!
Grooverider - Dance planet 1992 that cassette tape in 92 when I was 16 was the tape that made me the raver. Colin Dale in 1994 in the Rhythm Station Aldershot playing Techno made me a techno raver :) Squat party 1996 at the Ship Inn Southampton brought Acid Techno into my life - The 90s what incredible days :)
options in the 90s
1.go to a townie nightclub,get drunk,have a fight
2.take awesome clean drugs, dance all night with mates have a laugh,go home with a stunningly fit raver who is right up for it (pick this one,i did)
Damn, always a bit mashed to make the chat up after, kudos
god you make me envious!!! not many lovely ladies out in my ends
Respect from Mordor (Russia). I grew up on your music.
Went last night to heaven what a time was had by all good to see all the old headz and new ones loving the music and vibe big up all the djs, who would have thought this music back in the day would be still here and even bigger
Gutted. Only just heard of the 2019 date tonight. SOBS!
hardcore, jungle and then drum and bass made me the producer i wanted to be.
Fabio and groove been there from the start but also hundreds and hundreds of others have helped this music and scene evolve and still evolving til this day jungle drum and bass always originate never pirate

@@littlemisskitch Best nights ever 🎵
I used to go to Heaven all the time. Went for a Raindance revival a few months back. Was awesome. !
Fab & Groove legends, thankyou for all you have done. ❤️
Ahhh, the time when clubbing 'till 4-ish on a Friday then going to work was something my body could still manage.
Cool interview have so many crazy stories of this place. Some good memories. 88-92.
I was a dancer at Rage for a while. It was such a creative scene. Thanks for making and posting this 😁
Those two guys so proud of themselves ahah, but do you know what ? They can !!
The mad thing was it was on a Thursday.
Some would go straight to work when it finished.
yes i did
Haha, those Friday's at work were always a bit trying, but being a lot younger back then, it was do'able. Totally worth it, great times and so many amazing memories. :)
That's called youth. 4 days to recover now lol
I feel for Storm as the loss of Kemistry you can see it took its toll, also the hard drugs people did, and the cigs.
Best days of my life... big shout out to my London raving mates from 1992 ... Steve, Nicky, Colin and my cousin Johnny Puttnam 😍
Brad me ol mukka ........ Rage was the top night legendary and ground breaking !!!
Jules
Props you for not forgetting about Trevor and Colin.. alot of people use this word *LEGEND* way way too often...its dem kinda people that dont have any knowledge of music from way back when....Colin was the first to spin Planet Rock....and if you dont know dat tune, then yeah, you nah ready....Colin was an oldie from Punk days but know how to drop a tune.... electro, funk, soul, house acid. techno and occasionally some studio one for those who really....and i mean really knew him....Rage was wicked back in 88' alongside another killer place that imo was way harder than Rage....im talking Clink Street....yeah you had Shoom but that was some balaeric nonsense where that gyal at the door was way too picky about who she was letting in lol.... but that palce no way could compete with the hardness, roughness, dark and proper dirty moodyness of the acid that Clink was droppn back in 88....
Loved this. Raved throughout the 90’s in London but just missed Rage. But still had R&S, Belgian / German / Italian Trance around ‘91, ‘92, just no breaks, that hit me in ‘93, BAM!!!!
this is epic, big up Fabio & Grooverider legends in the game!
☮️❤️😁Thank you so much for your beautiful music 🎶🎶 🎶 memories will live on, never too bee repeated Oi Oi xxxx

The video editing on this is superb.
It's like a video version of a dnb tune !
Both fantastic DJs and Fabio is a spurs fan even better
Still got my laminated membership card 👍🏼
Amazing! There from the beginning and here to the end ...
Mr. Goldie! Nice Breitling!
Get these 2 back on radio1!!!!
Urban dance music, AKA Black Dance Music in my day 👊🏾👏🏾 Big up Fabio & Grooverider
not really!!! we didn't even refer to it as dance music let alone black music it was acid then house then hardcore and onwards to jungle, house did come earlier but unless you were born before 1972 you were still in school then and not actually out raving to it . We were all colours and came from all over. you got your modern day head on brother.
@@antelephant2511 We'll agree to disagree.
@@antelephant2511 Agreed! And not everyone was on Es either - I wasn't :)
Remember going up to rage in 92...Coach load of us went up from Bournemouth....Different class and first time I heard Tango, Tango Project "Watch me original rub-a-dub Style"...Fabio& Groove played it 5 times that night 👌
Sweaty corridors, e's trips.. nah mate.. sorted.. on the podiums, watching sheets of green laser light cutting thru swirling dry ice, then fingers, hands, arms and heads breaking thru the light.. hardcore, you know the score.. Good times.. Heaven on a Thursday night.. and you ONLY went on a Thursday night..🤣🤣
big up jungle techno
wicked club 1989 onwards was there nearly every Thursday, was going to say happy memories, but can't remember shit but was wicked 🙂
AWESOME!
This was great and also made me very sad that I wasn't there for this. Much respect.
Great video, nice to see Storm here. I remember when the drum and bass scene was growing in Scotland, Fabio and Groove rider made the journey many times to play Manga in Edinburgh and Trash or Art School in Glasgow. After watching this I wish they would tour the DJ line up across the country. Pretty sure it would be a money maker?
Mad respect for the originators
Gutted I missed this. I wasn’t there for the original (I was a few years too young) but I would have been crazy for this.
Fabio and carl cox at diztruxshon in 93 , what a night. Those days where the best nights I eva had,,,
Carl Cox n Mickey Finn!!!
Man…
I miss the old 90s dance music scene SO damn much.
Was too young to go clubbing, but it was the first ‘adult’ music I got into after steering away from pop.
That was a fun place.
Used to live rage, beginning of a long arse weekend man, Fridays 4 aces, Saturday telepathy in Stratford.
Yes mate 12 dalston lane was my place ,,tasco warehouse , roller express , the Astoria,, aaah give me a 92 snowball please
Snowballs was way later it was all doves then, my week was the same and Im sure I used to go earth monday also
Can't mention rage hevon on Thursday without FUN CITY AT BUZZBEES BXT 2 ASTORIA
Brilliant memories of Rage at Heaven on a Thursday. Fabio and Grooverider, live P.A from The Prodigy (R.I.P Keith), so many bangin nights. Dunno how I managed to blag my way onto the guest list every week, nice one Simon lol 👍
Legendary 💙
Outlander - Vamp ❤🎶❤🎶❤
Returned with alcohol rather then E. Attitude over love.
Love to hear some of those old breakbeat techno mixes
Can't believe DJ Rap 50yrs old still fit as ....
Not one dj or group can take credit for the music. It was all dj’s who were in the mix at the time. They all had a part to play.
Also, it wasnt just london that was the place to be, It was all over the uk.
It was the club where a lot of the tunes that became big in that era, were first played.
Wow this was very interesting
Yeeeeeessssss! ❤️
All phones should be banned at this reunion gig
Wonder if my vip card’ll still work...
Still got mine in my wallet!
BIG UP TWO YOU FROM BRISTOL U2 BACK INDA DAY PERCEPTION LONDON BIRTH PLACE JUNGLIST FOREVER GROVERIDER AN FABIO RESPECT LOVED THE SPIN BACKS
28 gun bad boy was released in 93.rage was rockin well before that. Wish i still had my member card. also loooking at it now its far from the same,i spent most of my time up on the balcony ,DJs were the other end (not on stage)and you couldnt see them really. also gutted to see they got rid of the original lights, there was one in particular i could never work out it kid of split open and morphed into different shapes (i promise), and the lasers coming on later in the night/morning was awesome. dam i miss Rage. And people speak of it now like it was THE club and in everyones mind who went there it certainly was but it was on a Thursday night so only the headstrong made it along. Its a shame but also good there were no camera allowed in ,although it is in a Prodigy video very briefly (i forget which tume),i remember they used to put a huge fan on in the tunnel bit which was very nice when you were nutted. shouts to all that used to go and are still here. bless. to add at 5:34 im not even sure that is Rage unless they cut the arch out, looks more like printworks
Nice to heat rabbit city records mentioned . Some absolute bangers in that label
Grooverider a lot of his career in one of the hardest positions in a all nighter line up. To play last when everyone is half baked and starting to think of the horrendous drive home and still smash it takes some doing. Also all the other DJs have already played there new white labels. Grooverider stood out from the rest with his own style in my opinion. In a club or big party when Grooverider was introduced it used to send shivers down your spine. Top Buzz had the own uniqueness also. 1989 was great house music but it was 1990 I started to go clubbing. I loved the techno and taking trips but for me the music peaked in 1991 along with everyone taking E and not just the select few. Great times. 1990 to 1995👍🏼. I also went to house clubs, jungle and trance/techno clubs.
I hope the reunion is a vinyl only night! Keep it authentic and like it used to be. Real DJ's don't need all the modern digital equipment 🔥
A good dj is a good dj no matter what they use. Two 1200's and a mixer was 'modern' once too. Old school fetishism is getting tiresome.
@@peterpryor7527 Preach. Same mindset would mean a DJ should be making all the music he plays himself with real instruments. ANYONE can learn to beat match with vinyl given time.
Love you guys but boys at Ruff cut in Stonebridge might argue where jungle originated.
For Real these 2 should be knighted for services to dance music. Changed so many lives and influenced pretty much all electronic dance music since the early 90s. Hardcore, Jungle, Garage, Grime, Dubstep, Trap & Drill have all been heavily influenced by what these guys have played over the years. Even Pop & Rap is mostly bass driven now which started with the music that these 2 played back in the early 90s.
Storms teeef man !!!
Grooverider at Amnesia - Birmingham with the wall of sound on a Wednesday night was special. All faith in Pete Tong was lost when you find out that he does the essential selection from his sun kissed (my ass) studio in LA while the rest of us freeze our bollocks off in the UK............ - however, always always keep the vibe alive!!!
class
Hardcore!!!😎😎😎
Mystical Influence (Toronto) hanging out in the shop at the 5.02 minute mark

RAGE...❤️ Digweed 🔥 Although remember Fabio & Grooverider name on every flyer n was like how they F... they getting up n down the country 😆
Reminiscing as my teen kids just returned from NYE at Bassfest ...
Dj Ron : “ I went rage yeah back in the early 90s.. you know who my driver was back then?” (Didn’t ask or care but I think you want to tell us all!) 🙄🙄🙄
It's funny that Goldie mentions the Prodigy, while everyone is frothing over Charlie, we're like fuck Charlie.. we bought that 12 inch for the B side - Your Love, what a chooon..!!!
Original don’s right here
gutted i cant be there
Oh man! When did the future suddenly become the past!
Damn. Yes....
I am in da club since b4 SOS
Let’s hope the Mandy is as good as it was back then
On the 8th!!! Bollocks!
That’s today! 😢
Cdj good music play boss
Who remembers being on the mailing list and getting in for £1 with this letter? who remembers Melissa?
Can anyone find, if possible, that mix with dark angel and terminator that goldie's talking about? Goldie talks about it around 3:40. Thanks.
‘What are those things on the shelf that look like books but are really thin?’ Said the millennial
Possibly.. but not all millennials (speaking for myself here as a millennial)! I play with vinyl and I'm a collector myself. I plan to continue growing my collection! Side note - massive respect to all the artists and creatives in this video.
