1996 was a great year,, I finished the shit secondary school ,+six form.
Methinks a bit of extra curricular income 🤔
@@eyesintheskies i was gonna say haha dnb in the 90s cant have paid that well
@@HXLproductions well to be fair it didn't it was still underground, only folks like goldie, grooverider, ltj bukem broke mainstream and made proper bank. Most of us where just happy if we didnt have to cadge a lift in the back of a transit with the soundsystem 😂 looks like this lot did alright though. profit margins on albums was a lot more artist friendly than todays streaming. But yeh they've clearly sold a few rugs along the way 😉
Focking jungle bunny,❤❤😂❤s
Thank God they started smoking weed in high school and did something sensible with their lives
This whole interview is sample GOLD.
I hear that...the one about them driving to country pubs and seeing girls has been used
Major C Cunliffe what track?
I've been looking for drum and bass interview sampling if you have any other recs plz send them my way !
@@ricochetpig hes probably referring to joy o's ellipsis. kink also uses it during some of his live sets
If you want to sound like everyone else, and put an unimaginative "voice over" that sounds like every other person's song that came before, 'sure'. Maybe you should try and develop something for yourself that is actually different and have some nuts.
Driving fast BMW's, chasing girls, making beats.........what could be better than that?
The last minute or so of this is gold, disregarding the hilarity of the first half of the video, it becomes clear that these guys' philosophy on music is concrete. You can definitely hear it through their music, one of those pillars of 90's Drum & Bass that's difficult to pin down, but those subtle changes that "help the listener listen" are why I will always be attracted towards this type of music. Also, Hokusai's Black Rose may be the finest, grittiest piece of electronic music ever crafted. Much love for these two.

Met them in early 90s. Very focussed pair, interesting to watch them in a studio environment.

@@mesmemo2373 Loose - Therapy (Photek Remix)
Thank you so much
Good lads these were back in the day and had a good old smoke at blue note with them now we are all 50 and 53
Source Direct is still my favorite d 'n' b artist of all time, and generally one of my favorite electronic groups of the 90s. Just an incredibly rare and original sound, and it hasn't aged a day. I remember playing Source Direct records at raves here in the states back in the mid-90s and people would go insane. I also just learned after watching this video that Joy O sampled this interview at the 1:30 mark on his track "Ellipsis".
I watch this and I want to stand up and rip a whole in the space-time continuum and go back to these golden years and relive it all again.

@bësure us 90,a generation was amazing, sadly I had nervous breakdown in 1999,better now, going to start up djing. And producing thx to source direct.
Those guys are legends, todays producers are too lame. Not passion.
This doc was created during a very interesting time of dnb. You can tell that the synths and leads are more floaty and melodic and less 'dirty' than the older jungle, but the drums are still cut-up and rearranged and not just looped. Little did anyone know that most dnb producers would bitch out only a few years later and do nothing but layer 909s playing jump-up rhythms over looped Amen breaks.
tf are u talking about late 90s / early 00s was the most advanced dnb will ever be. renegade hardware / virus / prototype completely stole the show

Fun bit of trivia: These guys had a track in the movie Blade - the antagonist "Frost" is blaring it in his headphones while he's trying to decypher the ancient vampire texts or whatever. It was their tune "Call and Response" but it never made it onto the soundtrack release, which was a fucking shame.
UK D&B 🇬🇧 all the way ❤️🙏🏽
Too bad I missed out onthis episode when it was broadcasted on Dutch TV. They had an episode about gabber house as well in which a producer actually introduced that term. Come to think of it I realise how amazing it was to have a TV show letting viewers go behind the scenes in underground, or as Source Direct mentions, cutting edge music scene.
What the hell, who would of known a few D&B tunes got you an M3 back in the day. I struggle to sell one track on Bandcamp lol
Darren Butler thats what i was thinking. The 90's were ace for bedroom producers!
Defo!! i honestly think that a lot of music that i hear these days from bedroom producers would have been signed to small labels back then hey - the bar has truly been raised :/
Darren Butler Not so much raised as saturated. When software kicked off big time the influx of people doing it tripled. Back then you had to really want to do it as a simple set-up would have been a bank loan of a few grand. The internet also gave everyone a chance to put stuff out but the quality control was removed. Back then say 2 people made tunes a 100 bought them. Now it's 100 people making tunes and two people downloading them. Things will change though but it's been bleak for about 15 years in regards to making a living from it.
Darren Butler Also in regards to "D&B tunes got you an M3 " Danny Breaks got his first house with the earnings from "Far Out" back in the early 90's lol. :D
+Darren Butler Because most people expect our music to be shit (which mine pretty much is, but then again I'm an extremely harsh self critic, don't know about your music lol) because so many people can claim to be musicians now because they have a laptop, fuck, you can even make music on smartphones and release it and claim to be a big time DnB, or Hip-Hop or House producer etc, and there are some right twats out there who may as well be using eJay to make their tunes if you know what I mean, so I think most producers get painted with the same brush, I mean.. I have that kind of mindset to be honest probably because I come from a musical background, and It just offends me to see some mug who uses his laptop as an ego machine making music to make up for his lack of personality..... But... Yeah.... Lol, those are my thoughts.
Hardcore nowadays is fuckin gash bring back the 90s

It was definitely the right decision for them to leave college and further their love of music elsewhere. It was their music that first inspired me to listen to D&B. They're a part of D&B history... D&B legends, big up!
I like Source Direct's music but they're teaching how to become quickly deaf.
Great vid. Thanks for sharing. Damn, it takes me back
You can tell they are so down to earth they say that they like to drive the fast cars, make the beats chill and check out the girls. The music was far ahead of its time.

talented guys (source direct, photek, hidden agenda....) contributed to the development of the genre of electronic music. Started out with studios in the basement and records almost on his knees.
Today's electronic music has split into many subgenres fucking and degraded.
The current shitty DJs do not know and do not know that you can create your own samples, and not to take from the built-in synthesizer, their shit is impossible to listen to. 1990-2000 - years were the heyday of electronics, thanks to these guys
+Michael Peterson To help you understand, compare modern fucking dnb and dnb who played these electronics in the 90s. And don't fucking said that it is outdated. No matter what they did semply, it is important that the result and the way it sounded and sounds after a while. Don't say more bullshit
The days of quality electronic music ended approximately in the mid-2000s. New electronic musicians and new subgenres, they make absolute garbage and worthless by themselves, in most

I love all their tunes! These days; "Riotous", "Black Domina".. So many ✌️
I absolutely adore 'Complexities'. The other side is the one that people still talk about but 'Complexities' has always been amongst my favourite tunes from that time. It's such a deep and subtle tune and the middle section is just lovely. They really didn't make many tunes that tug on the heart strings but that was one of the few of theirs that did. A brilliant tune.
