    Ah, also, Tetsuko I think is a trap in this deck. I ended up cutting it every time since your commander gives your rogues +1/+1. If you have your commander it's a vanilla 2/4

  • @Fausto_4841

    i've seen the exact scenario Joe's talking about with Gonti. dude was tutoring for his shadrix silverquill and thought he'd lost the card, not realizing it was face down on an opponents board. we all had a pretty good laugh.

    I have had this precon sitting in a deck box on a shelf untouched for a long while working on other things. Was just looking at it the other day to start cutting the chaff and then you guys drop this gem. Rogues tribal just sounded like silly fun when I first saw it. Thanks for giving him some love and throwing this together.

    I love scheming symmetry in Anowon. You cast it in your first main and mill their card in combat

  • @thekopekemaster
    @thekopekemaster Před 2 lety +5

    An AWESOME graveyard hate that might just be a straight upgrade to the deck is Dauthi Voidwalker. It's a rogue, it's unblockable, it exiles everything, AND if you want to cast something Anowon mills into it, you can do that for free.

  • @santiagolasso141
    @santiagolasso141 Před 2 lety +6

    I think Varragoth is more like a demonic tutor than a vampiric tutor with the commander in play, it searches before damage so if you have some sneaky boys, the commander can draw the searched card for you and it will be right on time

  • @AbyssArray
    @AbyssArray Před 2 lety +9

    Ooh.. this will be an interesting episode, I have this deck.. so taking notes
    The only problem with Tetsuko is that she has anti-synergy with your commander, due to the anthem, I don't think she's worth the deck slot in a lot of cases (since often times your board is answered via a board wipe, rather than targeted removal)
    I'll note for Varragoth, you can activate the ability at instant speed, right after you declare attacks with it, and this is notable because you can setup your next draw before combat damage is dealt, pairing with Anowon's ability (assuming you mill a creature) - you can pick what you need, and if he isn't answered, then you can do it again on subsequent turns as well (best card to get will likely be that Notorious Throng for yourself). And you could technically use it to politics on the table as well, say you're not in a good position on board and you're able to untap with this, you could help someone else get an answer to deal with the present board state - I'm usually thinking of archenemy scenarios because there often is one player that popped off at some point and you'd need to work together with other players to take them down a bit. Mostly my opinion and experiences though, my cousin pops off almost every single game, he usually doesn't end up winning most of them because he becomes the target for our early removal (of course, you need the cooperation of two of your opponents to do this sort of play, unless it's a card they want in their graveyard)
    Do like the considerations for this deck as a whole, one card I would probably recommend is Ashiok, Dream Render - while there are cards that count the cards in graveyards, you also don't want to fuel graveyard deck strategies. And the anti-tutor ability is widely applicable against a lot of decks (even just vs opponent's fetch lands, I do also favour this against my roommate, since he likes to play his Zur-Mill deck or his Captain Sisay-Historic deck, Ashiok shuts them down for many turns until they answer him). The other card I'd say is Scheming Symmetry, I think it'd be a nice inclusion, you could politics with it, or you can just ignore the downside by milling whatever they tutor

    I upgraded the standard edition of the precon and put Teferi's Veil in it. It works really well as you do not plan on blocking with your creatures anyway, so you might as well give it protection from everything until they can attack again.

  • @ultimateretroasd
    @ultimateretroasd Před 2 lety +11

    After a ton of testing with this deck, I can safely say that you guys missed two key cards here: Larceny (0.3usd hidden gem) and Reflections of littjara (you can not just copy your rogues but Notorious Throng too, and that's brutal!)
    In my particular case I swapped Anowon for Sygg because of speed. With that you can more confidently play some good 3 mana rocks like stix statium and dimir keyrune.
    Final note is that there a a ton of good equipment that trigger when a creature deals combat damage ~

    • @workyoutube7798
      @workyoutube7798 Před 2 lety +6

      Wow, reflections is a pretty great include; i want to argue larceny is too slow for what it does, but, damn, discard is preemptive counterspelling imo, and i'ma have to try them both out. My table tries to be all slow and friendly, but they are all near-cdeh sharks, so we'll see lol

    My personal problem with Bauble specifically in anowon is that by using wayfarer's bauble on turn 1 you will have 0 rogues on your field guaranteed by the time anowon is able to be cast (unless you also opened sol ring). Dont get me wrong bauble is a great card especially in non-green but if bauble is your ramp even when compared to a vanilla generic mana 2 mana rock you still have your turn 1 to commit a rogue to board, and the difference between casting anowon on a board with rogues on it and casting it on a board without is huge.

    @robaphone251 Před 2 lety +9

    I'm not the biggest fan of Varragoth, but I do think it would work well in this deck. You can activate the Boast ability as soon as it attacks (before damage) meaning with all of the draw on hit/damage effects it allows you to get the card immediately.

    I'm someone who plays a ton of Anowon, he's one of my favorite commanders, and I would bring yard hate with Anowon every time. I agree that Graffdigger's cage is eh, but Soul-Guide is something I would run every time, but I would also recommend Ashiok, Dream Render. It's a nice way to hate on tutors, but the biggest upside is milling yourself. It feeds your Agadeem's and I also run Treasure cruise, Maruang River Prowler and Auntie's Snitch. I just love running as much graveyard synergies in every deck I play, even if I have to run a few "eh" cards.
    Meanwhile, love the Dauthi Voidwalker. I think it's fantastic yard hate that should be a 100% run (I don't because it's outside of my budget though >.>) Surprised you didn't talk about it in the video, since yard hate is so important for a deck that has to mill it's opponents to function.

  • @workyoutube7798

    I personally have played with Tetsuko, and after 10 or so games, i found no real value to him. Situational at best, your commander out should always be out in this deck, making Tetsuko moot. Strixhaven Stadium is what I replaced him with, and, wow, does this card put in WORK - worse case scenario, it soaks up mana rock hate, normal AND best case scenario is YOU WIN.

    • @workyoutube7798
      @workyoutube7798 Před 2 lety +3

      @@natebeal18 That doesn't fix the problem of Tetsuko being craptastic in Anowon lol. You didn't fix an Anowon deck, you built a Sygg deck. And Tetsuko doesn't help Sygg specifically either (other creatures, sure, and it's not nearly as big an issue as with Anowon, but worth noting)
      Sygg may be "faster", but Anowon obliterates decks, life totals, and STILL draws cards. Advantage Anowon, imo.
      BTW, what did you mean when you said "am eh commander"?

    • @flukenukeem
      @flukenukeem Před 2 lety

      @@workyoutube7798 prob meant “a meh commander” as in mediocre. I tend to agree, if for no reason other than the fact that Yuriko is strictly better. Syr Konrad is a much better mill commander. Fortunately, Anowon is plenty good enough for non-CEDH anyways

    if you're the type that's hesitant to make a new deck from scratch, the Anowon precon turns into Yuriko pretty successfully, you don't need as many ninjas as you'd think, just get few of the small evasive ones, a Spark double and sakashima from the list. You can make it strong a hell for like 25$ if you take some of the good dual land reprints from the Wilhelt precon. Varragoth is insane in yuriko decks. you can slowly buy the more expensive ninjas like higure, but he's still relatively cheap, he's probably the most expensive ninja you need.

      It's a good card but we don't need it here, we cut Distant Melody and would actually add Pact of the Serpent before Murmurs :p

    Could you guys help me out with my Mogis, God of Slaughter deck built around doubling damage via cards like Angrath's Marauders Dictate of the Twin Gods and Furnace of Rath?

  • @theinvisiblegentleman1142

    If mindcrank and your commander are both on the field all damage dealt by your rogues is essentially doubled, feel like cutting that is a miss.

    I run every Rogue that steals things. I run cards to tutor my opponents decks. Steal things from their graveyards, and I have 1 infinite combo. Then counterspells
