I really hope your cat is every video, she's exactly what the nerds need! Her face as your scratch her chin is the perfect tortilla chip to the spicy salse the nerds bring.
I really only play with a couple of my friends and one who never makes new decks showed up with a spankin' new Araumi deck this weekend. I said Wingdings and he said, "oh, you watch Nitpicking Nerds." Yes, Nate. We all watch Nitpicking Nerds, the one EDH channel that isn't just recycling the same content all other EDH channels are putting out at the same time. But seriously, thanks Cherries and Beezy. Your effort doesn't go unnoticed.
Been testing a budget Araumi myself for some time now. You guys are overlooking one the most amazing encore payoffs that has won me every single game it hits the table... Dreadhound!
Whoops...just commented this, but yeah 100% correct. Also, Netherborn Phalanx...! Can just nuke people, or you can use it to find another 6 drop with transmute.
Built this deck for myself after watching a good ol Nerds video, finally got to play it today. Had an incredible amount of fun, thanks for all the ideas. Keep up the great content joe and beezy!
I really recommend Archfiend of Despair. Most people don't think to block it, because they don't understand that if it hits them, they will likely lose the game right there. The way it works is: (1) Archfiend hits a player for 6 dmg. (2) At the start of the end step, three triggers go on the stack for the three Archfiends. (3) First trigger says the player took 6 damage this turn, so they take another 6. (4) The second trigger fires, now the player has take a total of 12 dmg this turn, and so they take another 12, for a total of 24. (5) Finally, the player takes another 24 points of dmg for the last trigger, for a total of 48 dmg.
I had an Araumi reanimator deck, it was so cool, draw, mill, sacrifice, control ! Now it's an Araumi Consultation using her like a backup option (not turbo like Kess, and without storm options but more control). Both are super nice to play, very different and powerfull.
Joe, I think you'd look really good in a Christmas sweater. Please consider that as a possibility. Or any sweater, really. Earthy tones suit you perfectly.
Hearing you guys talk about looking for the Champion of Wits peaked my interest on how you guys might store and organize your cards… I would love yo see a video of you guys breaking how you personally organize, manage, and store a large collection.
Might be too late, but teferi's veil does some serious heavy lifting in my Araumi deck. It's math I can't even do with broodbirth viper triggers if any of the myriad tokens live.
I think the big play here is sneaking a Grave Titan into the deck before playing to create chaos at the table when everyone sees it hit the graveyard so they can't focus on the game while they use all their brain power to try and understand how and why there is a Grave Titan in the graveyard.
I absolutely love Sower of Discord in my Aruami deck, and don't forget about Syr Konrad! He can ping the table for so much if he can stick around a couple of turns.
Some recommendations if I may, Callous Bloodmage has worked amazing in my Araumi deck. Also Archaeomancer has allowed me to do some dirty shenanigans with Incarnation Technique and Dread Return.
Deranged assistent is absolutly great. Ritual plus gravefill or mana creature. I do not see a downside. Thoracle devining witch is the way to win with the deck.
What's even better with the zuberas is when you can cast it as a creature, sac it (draw 1 or discard 1), then encore them in the same turn so that they see the original die. Even better if you can do both and untap once, such as with freed from the real. 9 mana to play both zuberas, sac both with viscera (discard 2, draw 2 since you respond to the trigger). Then you encore one, untap with freed or another effect (intruder alarm would be nuts and save the one mana). Let all the tokens go away on the end step or sac in response to triggers so now each zubera sees that 8 have died in total this turn. Draw 24, discard 8 three times Plus you have already drawn 2 and discarded 2 as well. 8 or 9 mana draw 26 opponent discards 26? It's like Jin gitaxis
Halimar excavator is a sneaky bomb in this deck milling you 27 if encore it, sages row denizen mills six whenever you encore a blue creature or it can be encored to mill 12, doomwake giant encores to give everything your opponents own -9/-9, and agent of treachery steels 3 things and draws 9 at end of turn
My Araumi deck was basically what you guys upgraded to, except I KEEP GRAVETITAN!!! Lol, but yeah my meta is super creature heavy so the bodies are really useful. Also if your meta is creature heavy... Dreadhound and Netherborn Phalanx are both seriously sick
I would make an argument for Rings for two main reasons; 1) You can double up on Araumi's activated ability, allowing you to now encore out two creatures instead of one. 2) If you give a creature encore, you can now also use the rings on the activated ability, letting you encore x2. So that Underworld Hermit you mentioned? Now imagine paying two more mana and getting another 3 tokens. Your Baleful Strix cards are now pay 4 mana, draw 6
You are *seriously* undervalue-ing ransack the lab and strategic planning. They are cantrip that smooth out early draws, dig deeper to find what you need and fill up the gy with 3 cards, while being card neutral in your hand. I didn't had them in my first araumi iterations but after adding them i can't see myself removing them. (Notably, this is not talking about chaff like corpse churn, that is *not* a cantrip) generally i find that one (myself included) overvalues things being creatures and araumi targets. i rarely get to activate araumi more than maybe twice a game. Last game i played with the deck i didn't get a single activation in, just as an example. the recommendations are *VERY* biased that araumi actually gets to activate, while i also run the blue zubera, i'd not recommend it, due to how araumi reliant they are to be usable. Looking through the list, not including "chronic flooding" (1u; enchants land, whenever it becomes tapped its controller mills 3.... you enchant your own land, it is even more resilient and reliable than hedron crab, while being dirt cheap)
My friend built almost this exact deck the day Commander Legends was released released and I hate playing against it. He plays a few untap target permanent creatures also so he can get multiple activations per turn
I will say, you wanna run a bunch of fetchlands for Araumi to turn on encore for just hitting your land drops. But I do like a lot of these upgrades, especially the MH2 card that entombs.
For Buried Alive, I would never get your best three, because then if your yard is exiled, you lose all your best creatures; get your best, and two good targets, that way you can recover if your GY is exiled.
Card to add: Altar of dementia, great sac outlet plus sac the encore tokens to altar and just refill your graveyard for next turn Edit: nevermind you already have it in the list
I’m a patron and would you to tune up my soul throng mono green Elf deck with Omnath as Commander. How do I apply a request fellas? Love this series so much.
so If I'm understanding this right. Say Fblthp the lost is milled into your graveyard. You tap Araumi and select Fblthp. Fblthp gets shuffled back into your deck and 3 token copies come onto the battlefield and you then have to sacrifice 2 of them?
Great video guys but I have a question on the zuberas. They trigger when they go into graveyard from play. But Araumi creates token that are copys so they just vanish after they die and do go to the graveyard, so you cant trigger the effect? Can someone pls explain that, Im kinda new to Magic
Actually answered my own question. If you have a sac outlet, and at least 2 opponents. Activate araumis ability, create 2 tokens of specimen collector. 2 ETBs trigger then sac one of those tokens, and its LTB triggers. It then copies the other token of specimen collector. Thus creating a infinite loop
Hey guys. What you think of gravebreaker lamia here? it entombs and makes encore cheaper. Also, what about any of the new kamigawa cards like the dragons and the legendary lands? Im loving this commander btw :)
My friends and I about two months ago had an unlimited proxies and no ban list night and I built araumi. She's just so much fun and plays really goofy cards like the zuberas and makes them great. I won that game night with a sundering titan lmfao
Aren’t the tokens coming back with araumi as all other tokens? Just 0 mana drops? Gary wouldn’t count himself in this case? As the tokens entering wouldn’t have any black mana in their cost? Or am I wrong?
Does anyone know if the nerds have said why they don't like Victimize before? I know they've mentioned thinking its bad before, not just in this deck. I have it in a couple decks, so I'd like to know their reasoning, etc so I can figure out what decks it make sense to cut it from, etc
The shorts are how I found you. Beezy looped me in with those quick takes and then I stayed to up my game.
Thank you Nerds.
Peace out Tribe Scout.
Thank YOU for commenting and saying nice things!
Same! Shorts drew me in.
I really hope your cat is every video, she's exactly what the nerds need! Her face as your scratch her chin is the perfect tortilla chip to the spicy salse the nerds bring.
She’s loving it
Completely agree
I really only play with a couple of my friends and one who never makes new decks showed up with a spankin' new Araumi deck this weekend. I said Wingdings and he said, "oh, you watch Nitpicking Nerds."
Yes, Nate. We all watch Nitpicking Nerds, the one EDH channel that isn't just recycling the same content all other EDH channels are putting out at the same time.
But seriously, thanks Cherries and Beezy. Your effort doesn't go unnoticed.
We need more amber. I would go as far as saying she is a nitpicking nerds video staple!
fine...
Been testing a budget Araumi myself for some time now. You guys are overlooking one the most amazing encore payoffs that has won me every single game it hits the table...
Dreadhound!
Whoa.. whoa..
Good card!
Whoops...just commented this, but yeah 100% correct. Also, Netherborn Phalanx...! Can just nuke people, or you can use it to find another 6 drop with transmute.
I also like Eyeblight Cullers for its token generation and milling
This deck is now ferocious
Built this deck for myself after watching a good ol Nerds video, finally got to play it today. Had an incredible amount of fun, thanks for all the ideas. Keep up the great content joe and beezy!
This was such a fun and thoughtful secret santa gift, and I'm hope your friend likes it!
I have been thinking about building her, but I always end up thinking "this deck does nothing without Araumi".
But she’s 3 mana so it’s fairly easy to spam her and protect her in those colours
Or just reanimation spells for this
Good Stuff, Merry Christmas
I have an araumi deck and i feel like it’s surprisingly powerful in a lot of situations. Excited to watch and see potential upgrades!!
This is great! I just made an Araumi last week, what timing. Great suggestions! Some I caught and included myself, others I missed.
Ooo one more episode
"I don't even know how you lose at that point."
*Enter Rakdos Charm*
I build budget araumi when she first came out and have thrown a few things in along the way, but this video definitely helps tune my list too! Thanks.
Just checked out the decklist, and there's a Reliquary Tower in the manabase. Maybe swap that one out too.
My Araumi deck is KILLER, I'm sure I'll steal a couple ideas!
Please do!
Beezy: I brought the cat
Us: My friend, you bow to no one.
Can't wait for the next installment. I'm sure it'll be nice!
Great vid guys, I have been thinking about building this commander!
She is extremely fun and pops off hard!
I really recommend Archfiend of Despair. Most people don't think to block it, because they don't understand that if it hits them, they will likely lose the game right there. The way it works is:

Good stuff.
Joe, I think you'd look really good in a Christmas sweater. Please consider that as a possibility. Or any sweater, really. Earthy tones suit you perfectly.
Kitty on every episode, do it
So many votes for Amber!
Wholesome as fudge
Finally what you have always been missing from videos. More cat.
5/7 perfect video.
That’s what I was saying!
Not green? Run me! The Nerds know what's up.
100% of the time!
I just built the deck can’t wait to see what you guys do with it
Hope you enjoyed!
Noo today is my birthday and the nerds didn't say happy birthday. But I do have an Araumi deck, so I'll take it, thank you, Nitpicking Nerds!
We have failed you!
A video on the internet with a cat!
Love it!
I did wonder, how is a bunch of 2/2s not good, but a bunch of 1/1s are great? I should have known.
Grave titan would rock in this deck
Based on the description, I guess I’m the Muka of our playgroup. Only person that’s an athlete in our magic gang lol
Hearing you guys talk about looking for the Champion of Wits peaked my interest on how you guys might store and organize your cards… I would love yo see a video of you guys breaking how you personally organize, manage, and store a large collection.
We are a bit disorganized to say the least lol
I have araumi as my pauper commander and the common cards you cut are very good in that context ;)
I can see that!
Might be too late, but teferi's veil does some serious heavy lifting in my Araumi deck. It's math I can't even do with broodbirth viper triggers if any of the myriad tokens live.
Wow. That's a card for this deck!
Encore trigger to sac my tokens...
Tokens?
I think the big play here is sneaking a Grave Titan into the deck before playing to create chaos at the table when everyone sees it hit the graveyard so they can't focus on the game while they use all their brain power to try and understand how and why there is a Grave Titan in the graveyard.
Gray Merchant of Asphodel is way scarier than Grave Titan. That being said Grave Titan definitely will scare your opponents.
I made this commander w a $50 deck a few weeks back and I love it so much
I'd love to see your decklist if you are willing to share
I absolutely love Sower of Discord in my Aruami deck, and don't forget about Syr Konrad! He can ping the table for so much if he can stick around a couple of turns.
I also love Dream Eater, Beezy. I mean, that art! Worth the over-costed creature just to look at it.
We have it in commander cube and I rarely pass it
Some recommendations if I may, Callous Bloodmage has worked amazing in my Araumi deck. Also Archaeomancer has allowed me to do some dirty shenanigans with Incarnation Technique and Dread Return.
Won my last Araumi game thanks to a Archaeomancer into Living death! Netherborn Phalanx + Grey Merchant killed everyone on ETBs lol
We're /so goddamn close to greatness/
Deranged assistent is absolutly great. Ritual plus gravefill or mana creature. I do not see a downside.
Thoracle devining witch is the way to win with the deck.
ha! you guys left reliquary tower in! after all that talk about thought vessel ;)
What's even better with the zuberas is when you can cast it as a creature, sac it (draw 1 or discard 1), then encore them in the same turn so that they see the original die.

It's like Jin gitaxis
I love the dunkey shirt
OMFG JOE I LOVE THE DUNKEY SHIRT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Yes
Halimar excavator is a sneaky bomb in this deck milling you 27 if encore it, sages row denizen mills six whenever you encore a blue creature or it can be encored to mill 12, doomwake giant encores to give everything your opponents own -9/-9, and agent of treachery steels 3 things and draws 9 at end of turn

Reminder: get into a secret Santa group with joe
Our secret santa group is amazing! Honestly everyone got incredibly thoughtful gifts
1000% more kitty! 10/10 morning made
i am defeated
The deck is very fun some additions should be cards like Vizier of tumbling sands to get multiple activations per turn.
My vote is in for Amber to be in more videos!
It’s almost unanimous!
I wonder if they will print more high powered uncommon multicolor merfolk legends lol, first Tatyova, then Araumi, what's next?
KITTY!!
I cant believe joe didnt go for archon of cruelty!
I actually did but I didnt have one to gift and it was too pricey with the rest of the gift
You are *seriously* undervalue-ing ransack the lab and strategic planning. They are cantrip that smooth out early draws, dig deeper to find what you need and fill up the gy with 3 cards, while being card neutral in your hand.

I wonder if that draw 3 cards, reduce max handsize card from Crimsow Vow could do work in this deck
We want card draw on our creatures
Would Millikin and Deranged Assistant not also fit, sure they're basically tapped rocks, but I feel like the exess value might be worth it
You took thought vessel out but left reliquary tower in? Looks like fun deck, I have almost of these cards, might try building one
My friend built almost this exact deck the day Commander Legends was released released and I hate playing against it. He plays a few untap target permanent creatures also so he can get multiple activations per turn
Let her stay!! 4evaaaa
More Amber. Every video please 😜
Ideally 😂
i came for the magic, i stayed for the cat.
I will say, you wanna run a bunch of fetchlands for Araumi to turn on encore for just hitting your land drops. But I do like a lot of these upgrades, especially the MH2 card that entombs.
But Deranged Assistant is also a 'mana rock' !!
This is true you could play it!
Providing the cat is enough to contribute.
Perfect
Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure creatures with lifelink still gain you life equal to their power even if they’re blocked
That is correct
Joe you said Bazaar Trademage is an overcosted body, I think you meant undercosted. 3/4 flyer for 3.
For Buried Alive, I would never get your best three, because then if your yard is exiled, you lose all your best creatures; get your best, and two good targets, that way you can recover if your GY is exiled.
Card to add: Altar of dementia, great sac outlet plus sac the encore tokens to altar and just refill your graveyard for next turn
Edit: nevermind you already have it in the list
Finished this deck a week ago, get out of my brain!
What are your thoughts on teferi's veil in the deck? Let your encored tokens phase out and keep them after attacking.
I’m a patron and would you to tune up my soul throng mono green Elf deck with Omnath as Commander. How do I apply a request fellas? Love this series so much.
tfw when the nitpicking nerds didnt wish u a happy birthday
can you guys do a video where you showcase the best homes for cards you hate on all the time like cultivate, grave titan and ghostly prison etc?
Araumi is a good commander, but it's insane in the 99 of Yarok or Muldrotha. Especially Araumi+Vannifar=VALUE!
What took so long to bring Amber into the videos? MOAR KITTY!
fine i give up lol
No Burning Rune Demon? Been considering one but I guessing there's something you guys didn't like about it?
so If I'm understanding this right.
Moar kitties on screen!
Will do!
So I am building my own dead tied deck, and this is great help compared to my alpha one. Thoughts on adding specimen collector for token generation?
Actually answered my own question. If you have a sac outlet, and at least 2 opponents. Activate araumis ability, create 2 tokens of specimen collector. 2 ETBs trigger then sac one of those tokens, and its LTB triggers. It then copies the other token of specimen collector. Thus creating a infinite loop
Liked for cat
@NitpickingNerds What do you guys feel about slotting in cards like Sundial of the infinite and ashnod's altar? Is it worth it?
Yay cat
I want more daily Amber content! 🤣
fine i think I am defeated
Hey guys. What you think of gravebreaker lamia here? it entombs and makes encore cheaper. Also, what about any of the new kamigawa cards like the dragons and the legendary lands? Im loving this commander btw :)
bad. lamia's ability don't make encore cheaper as Encore is NOT casting a spell. A 5 mana entomb in a body is also bad.
How do we feel about Occult Epiphany in this one, as a draw/fill the yard at Instant speed?
this is the one deck I would put grave titan in. encore it for TWELVE zombies! it's super medium everywhere else, but here it's a great encore card
Explained in the video 😅
@@noraandfranksmith9565 definitely a preemptive comment 😅
Watching the video explains the video!
No love for Foil :) ? Araumi seems to be the perfect deck for it, not as a budget option, but as an actual staple.
We need a cat bed in the background
I dont think our set up allows for that lol
My friends and I about two months ago had an unlimited proxies and no ban list night and I built araumi. She's just so much fun and plays really goofy cards like the zuberas and makes them great.
I won that game night with a sundering titan lmfao
You monster!
Fairy miscreant is pretty good idk
Do you think an Araumi deck should run untapping effects? I’m wondering if it’s worth it to have something like a fatestitcher
Aren’t the tokens coming back with araumi as all other tokens? Just 0 mana drops? Gary wouldn’t count himself in this case? As the tokens entering wouldn’t have any black mana in their cost? Or am
I wrong?
MORE AMBER!!!
YES!!!!
Does anyone know if the nerds have said why they don't like Victimize before? I know they've mentioned thinking its bad before, not just in this deck. I have it in a couple decks, so I'd like to know their reasoning, etc so I can figure out what decks it make sense to cut it from, etc
