      I really don't see how this mindset is helpful. The sims community is setting itself up for failure by trashing a game that isn't even released yet. How would you feel if you were on the sims 5 design team and all you saw was predictions of your failure? Instead of discouraging the designers, we should encourage them to make a better game. Giv ether motivation, and an expectation to measure up to.

    Just a note... Paralives people did state Occults were a consideration for expansions. They just don't want to include things like that in the base game. My guess is things that add unnecessary things become DLC and things that do not become patches and updates. Which... Is not a bad model. Then they have a highly moddable game to cover the rest. I personally like that.

    Paralives is starting to feel more of a spiritual sequel to The Sims 1 than a competitor to the late entries of the series, it's downright using the gameplay as a base but developed into an idea and mood so far away into the relaxed and isolated form, focused on building too, that seems more of a tribute to a legacy product than a modern rival. For me it wasn't the mechanics that made me think of paralives, it's how it looks, how it is drawn...the aesthetic? Not so much placements of objects or anything. It's a style much different from the sims, more cartooney...more pastel colored and stuff. That is was made me think of paralives.
    As for 'project renee'...I think it's worrisome that building seems to be the focus. It's like that now, building and objects over gameplay..It's just odd to me that the first thing we see for a SIMS game is not a sim but building. The way they are talking now, it's like they are focusing on marketing to new players over the existing base. In terms of aesthetic and objects to multiplayer and crosscompatibility....it's looking right now they are changing a core dynamic of the game, being a sandbox in favor of gimmics to look like a facebook game. I don't care much for that and I am not a fan of subscriptions for gaming. If I buy a game I want to own it, not rent it. IDK, as it is now, I won't be playing after Sims 4. The direction is just not for me...shame. It's the one game I enjoy playing, all 4 of them. Oh, well..

What I want is for them to keep focusing their passion on making their game something they are very happy with, and then release it to the wilds and let it fly! If they do that, I believe that even if it doesn’t “beat the Sims” (some people will always buy brand name, regardless of quality), eventually it will gain a loyal and passionate following to rival or even outclass the Sims franchise.

    It’s naïve to think the Sims 5 isn’t at LEAST taking some cues from Paralives. Even if Paralives ends up not being enough to compete, the threat of *some* competition where it did not exist before, exists now. And that’s got to at least have some kind of power and EA are gonna do at least the barest minimum of trying to keep up. So I do think Paralives’ existence is very relevant in the world of life simulation games. And I do think the Sims team are aware of it and that is relevant to their own process of making Sims 5.

    • @fransmith3255
      @fransmith3255 Před rokem +9

      @@jaybee4288 Well, it also depends upon the quality of the game that EA makes. If it's Sims 4 quality, ie, ridiculously and continually full of bugs that are not ever fixed and often render the game totally unplayable, than Paralives is going to pick up a much higher chunk of the market than they would have otherwise. Sims players are likely to jump across in frustration, even if the jump is temporary until EA fix their game AGAIN. The more buggy The Sims 5 ends up, the more people are likely to jump ship to a game that is not as buggy (that would be almost any other game, lol!).
      It also depends upon modding, I feel. And what the modders do. If lots of modders jump ship to Paralives, than many players will follow them. Modders are a pretty essential part of The Sims games now - the game is virtually unplayable without mods to have any kind of decent gameplay. If the modders jump ship, so will the players.
      It depends upon whether EA actually DO step up their 'game' and make a decent QUALITY game. The Sims 5 obviously won't have as deep gameplay as Paralives probably will - that costs money and EA are more keen to spend less money - that's why they concentrate on the cheaper option of graphics rather than depth of gameplay. You can see that in all the cuts that have been made, even in the number of animations made and the rather obvious disappearance of items that required many animation variations like the small telescope and the pool table and the complete lack of variation in the cooking depending upon what is being made (The Sims 1 & 2 & 3 all had cooking variation). EA are now aiming their game at a much younger audience, who use their imaginations more to replace the details that are missing from the graphics, don't need depth in gameplay, and who mostly care about what the game looks like. Not to mention that younger players are highly likely to convince parents to buy 'babysitting' for their children, and games are excellent babysitters. Parents will often buy stuff for their kids that they wouldn't buy for themselves.
      It feels like Paralives might aim at a much older audience. The two games might end up with completely different audiences in the long term: The Sims aimed at kids and Paralives aimed at older teens and adults. And THAT is where my comment on modders comes in. Mods are made by older people, not kids. If The Sims ends up selling basically to kids, which is what it looks like is going to happen, modders who make mods for fun may very well jump ship to a game aimed at adults rather than kids. And are modders, as adults, going to be happy making mods for a child's game that they don't necessarily play? I don't think so. Modders generally make mods for games they like to play themselves. THIS, I think, might be the defining factor on the popularity of both games. Do notice that EA has recently reached out to modders - this is likely the very reason why, and I suspect that they will continually do more in that direction for this very reason. And, with the new mod platform, they have stated that a system for buying mods within that new system might very well be introduced. That is a huge step towards enticing modders to stay with The Sims. What might happen in the long term is that those who mod to make money may stay with The Sims ('cause they make money), and those who make mods for fun may very well jump ship to a game aimed more at their age group. If that does end up being the case, than mods for The Sims might end up being mostly paid mods, because the modders who make mods for pleasure and not profit have moved on to more satisfying games that they play themselves. And if they're selling mods to kids, they need them CENTRALISED, so that kids can go mad with their parents' money in one place, lol. Kids can't necessarily control masses of mods and update them from all over the place like adults can. How would all this affect the player base? Well, only time will tell...
      It will indeed be very interesting how it plays out over time...

    Sadly, even if Sims 5 ends up being amazing and everything the community has been asking for, I doubt I’ll be able to play it: “cloud-based” and “cross-device” suggest that one will have to have a steady internet connection, so those of us without access to high speed internet or good cellular will be left out. I live in an old stone house in a valley, so even with WiFi extenders there’s really only one room with reliable internet (and I can’t use it during business hours). And don’t bother telling me to just play on my phone, because to get a cell signal I have to leave my house and run a half mile up a hill to a parking lot. I really don’t fancy playing a game on my phone in a parking lot in the middle of winter (and I’m pretty sure the security guards who watch it wouldn’t be too happy with that either). Their new EA app already kicks me off of both Sims 4 and Sims 3 when I lose connection; I had to go back to Origin just to be able to play those games in offline mode. Sigh . . .

    I think even if there is a "subscription" there will still be an option to simply buy the DLC. Because EA technically already implemented a subscription thing, its called EA Play. They'll probably integrate TS5 or whatever it ends up being called with that, and we can still use the EA App or whatever to buy it as normal. They'll probably use the new game to try and encourage more people to sign up for EA Play more than they currently do though, because they want to compete with Xbox and Gamepass and other similar options.
    Personally I hope they do a "season pass" thing like Cities:Skylines did, where you get all the DLC within a certain time period but you get to keep it when the time is over, unlike most subscriptions. There is SO much other content that they can profit off of in the form of DLC. Not including these basic things in BG is just super greed. IMO, People should not have to pay to have basic weather/interactions in a life sim game. They could create DLC that ADDS ON to these features, such as hobby and/or festival/holiday packs.

    Paralives..I bet they could release a beta ^^ that would really help them find all the bugs and release a proper and stable base game.
    I don't care about sims 5. They showed they only care about money and will keep pushing new content even with flaws and issues and then not even fix them... how can I believe them when they want money for their next game? Now they'll make sure they do it right? They've started the sims soooo many years ago. I bought sims 1 when I was a kid. Was the first game that I bought. They had the time and the funds to fix their mistakes by now and didn't.
    I got my money on Paralives. Too many people are excited for this and are too upset with EA's sh1t.
    Sims 3 was left a mess and still being sold for full price..
    Sims 4 is a mess and they'll leave it like that also.. they didn't care to fix it properly in all these years... they have nothing to promise. They want money and sims 5 will be a mess too.
    And if it is not, too bad, they've lost me.

    The Sims has made so much money from Sims 4 that if Sims 5 isn’t GREATLY more advanced than S4 I’m not buying it. I’ll cut my losses and stick with playing shitty sims 4

    I love the zaniness, lore, and supernatural elements of The Sims, but if they're gonna have TS5 be as toned down as 4, then I will have an easy time switching over to Paralives.

      @@regeneratedwitch I understand that. However, you wrote that it made you sick when people "defend" TS4. That doesn't sound like you like the game.
      (Which is fine, btw. No one is obliged to like a computer game. I just wish people who don't like TS4 stopped acting like only their opinion mattered.)

    • @regeneratedwitch
      @regeneratedwitch Před rokem

      @@ProLifeAtheistXX I never liked TS4 although I tried really hard but at this point no you can’t defend it. It’s a game that’a either tolerable or completely unplayable. And by the end of the day you were served this thing by a company who’s gathered your money and pretend everything’s right. That’s my issue and my concern is if people keep supporting this mindset, the more packs are going to be released semi working.
      Thank you lots of love ❤️

      It depends on if there's always DLC or not as to whether it's better. Honestly I think EA just prices things too high. The model itself with the DLC is fine.
