You could say that all the figures have 5 lines. So answer B is/seems a correct answer. The question becomes then what is more important? The position of the small figures OR ... the number of lines (5!) in the main figure? Because the filling of the small squares changes I'm inclined to prefer your answer, because that gives two reasons why D should be better than B. But you cannot say B is a wrong answer. I prefer puzzles with only 1 correct answer!
