The Dutch Frikandel: Everything You Need To Know

  • The Frikandel is one of the most well-known Dutch snacks. Since its creation in the 1950s, it has quickly become the number one snack in the Netherlands. In this video, I delve into its history and share how you can make your own Frikandel at home. This video is the first of four in which I dive into the world of Dutch snacks.     Ingredients
    100 grams of pork fillet (can be substituted with minced pork)
    200 grams chicken fillet (can be substituted with minced chicken)
    3 tablespoons breadcrumbs
    1 tbsp ice-cold water
    Enough Oil to deep fry
    For poaching
    1 Boullion cube
    1,5 liters Water
    Spices
    1/2 Teaspoon Onion powder
    1/2 Teaspoon Garlic powder
    1/4 Teaspoon Piment (All Spice)
    1/4 Teaspoon Ginger powder
    1/4 Teaspoon Cumin
    1/4 Teaspoon Ground Black pepper
    1/4 Teaspoon Salt
    Enough for 4 small (12 cm +/ 4 inch) frikandellen

    there is only ONE Dutch frikandel spciaal. kurrie frietsaus and diced onions. :) where as the kurrie can only be found in Holland and Germany and the frietsaus just in Holland. with other words, it looks the same but doesn't taste the same. 😇

    For years 'Ollanders in foreign places were desperate for precisely this. Some experimented with the Indo "perkedel", which is not even similar. Thank you for this recipe. Which, as you would expect, I will both try and modify.

    can I use mince beef instead of pork? I don't eat pork but I want to try it

      I added pork because it's a bit fattier which helps to hold it all together, but you can also just use chicken mince
