LAPD Officer Shoots at Woman Who Hit Pedestrian With Car During Child Custody Dispute

San Pedro, Los Angeles - On October 1, 2023, Harbor Division uniformed officers received a radio call regarding a child custody dispute at Gaffey Street and Capitol Drive, in a local store parking lot. Officers and a supervisor met with involved parties and the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Miesha Scott. After a lengthy discussion, officers facilitated the peaceful transfer of custody of the minor child. After the child exchange, Scott entered her vehicle, a white, Chevrolet, “U-Haul” pick-up truck and appeared to drive toward the parking lot exit.
Scott then drove north towards the location of the victim and one of the officers. Scott accelerated the vehicle and struck the victim, nearly missing one of the officers. Scott proceeded to drive south, toward an additional officer, and an OIS occurred. As officers broadcast a “help call,” Scott fled from the scene and officers initiated a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit concluded at Pacific Avenue and Paseo Del Mar, when the suspect’s vehicle collided into a tree. Scott was taken into custody without further incident. The Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the initial scene and treated the victim for the injuries she sustained from being struck by Scott’s vehicle.
The Los Angeles Fire Department personnel also responded to the termination of the pursuit and transported Scott by rescue ambulance to a local hospital, where she was treated for injuries sustained during the collision at the termination of the pursuit. Scott was later cleared for booking by medical staff. Scott was booked for Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer with a Vehicle. No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. Scott’s vehicle was impounded as evidence. Force Investigation Division investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.

If this is the same person, she harassed three different people enough to get protective orders against her over 11 years.
The good news: people love that little boy. The woman she ran over (who was NOT the foster mother but an older woman friend of the foster father who went with him in this difficult situation) cried when she discussed her hope that the child would have a decent shot at life. She was in a lot of physical pain but her concern was for the little boy. He has reportedly been moved out of state to another family members' home. The foster father was Meisha Scott's cousin. (He may be one of the cousins on Scott's FB page.) This child has family who love him and want the best for him.

They were going to take the child because it was not clear when they said that, but after they found out additional info they couldn't take the child. They could have told her but they weren't obligated to nor would she have listened, clearly. They probably wouldn't be able to get two words into explaining it to her before she started screaming about how she is the victim here and they are out to kill her or something.

He's not perfect, but she is a danger. I told my husband that anything that happens to us will never concern our kids. My dad used my brother and I as pawns in my parents divorce, he did things that he should be in jail for. I would never take my kids away from my husband, they are OUR kids. I don't even care about child support as long as the kids have what they need. Even if you can't get along with your husband, doesn't mean he can't be a stellar father. That being said, we have a calm and happy marriage so maybe that's why it's a civil conversation. I hope you find a woman one day that won't take advantage of you. It's really a shame to see women my age(26) acting like they are owed things that they don't have to earn. Funny how she thought she was the safe option for her son. Had him in the back of the truck, then tried to runs over an officer with no care about other innocent people being taken out with him (Thank God there wasn’t a young child standing on the other side) and then crashed the vehicle. Well… if she wanted to have any chance of ever getting her child back, she lost it. Now she doesn’t even have visitation. The only good choice she made for her son that day is sending herself back to prison, otherwise he could have gone back to her through court order and she couldn’t even make the most basic safety choice, use a car seat.

As a Former U-Haul worker, I can confirm this is a common thing that happens to our trucks.
I'm sure she has no car and was using the truck rental to take her kid around town. If she just got out of jail Enterprise, Hertz, wouldn't touch her.

I work on a psychiatric unit and have met several folks that behave like this... It is impossible to speak in a rational way with them... many have also broken the law.... . She is sick and definitely would fit a diagnosis of mood disorder or psychosis.. She needs professional help and certainly should not have prolonged contact with a child... The officers were incredibly patient and deserve much recognition for this and keeping their focus on finding the facts and doing what was correct in a difficult situation...

Child was originally in the cab with no car seat according to the 911 call. Either the mum tried to hide him in the cargo bed, or the cops moved him there so he was less involved and traumatised, and they could get access to him easier to move him.
