Fun fact, Roy brown, the man who designed the Edsel, such was his failure, was banished from Detroit and sent to Dagenham, and there designed the Mk1 Cortina. He was allowed back after that.

So it's basically 99 facelifted (or should i say butt lifted 😄) with 900 rear end, only 2-door sedan was available.

36:40 " I dont even know what this van is" says Ian. I could tell straight away it was a Ford Thames by the metal engine cover. My father bought one and converted it into a camper. I rode 100's of miles on that engine cover as a kid (no seat belts), very warm in summer. Cover was held down by 2 rubber hooks and metal retainers, gashed my leg on one of the metal retainers, still got the scar to prove it.

00:30 A friend had an MG ZL, which he owned for many years. A very comfortable car which I travelled in on a number of occasions. He had replaced the exhaust with a home-made stainless steel one with a square section tailpipe, because the original needed parts replacing about every 18 months. The homebrew one lasted for well over a decade, and was still fine when he gave the car away, some 20 years ago. When that car pulled away, the revs could be allowed to drop almost to zero without stalling, because of the long stroke engine. The low revs gave the clutch a very easy time, and made it much more reliable.

Many thanks for sharing Ian. Some fantastic views of some great cars of yesteryear. It's very sad to hear that Westfield have now gone into administration. The classic style car firms seem to be facing a similar crisis to that of the mechanical watch makers back in the 70's and 80's with quartz innards that unfortunately many did not survive. Some brands did make it through so I hope the car brands survive as well. It may be an odd choice but the car of the day would be the Sierra Cosworth Whale Tail, I was lucky enough to drive a few of these on the road for deliveries, they used the standard 3 door body instead of the Ford 'cooking' version of the XR4 that had a split rear side window and double spoiler if my old and rather dusty memory serves correctly. Looks like fun was had by all.
