  • ‪@hagertyclassiccarsuk3102‬ organised RADwood 2022 at Bicester Heritage, and it was a delightful celebration of all things 1980s/1990s - retro cars, retro clothing and even retro gaming! There were replicas of vehicles from the A Team, Back to the Future, Robocop, Ghostbusters and Knight Rider as well as a Motocompo, Sinclair C5, Mitsubishi Cordia, Skylines, a Peugeot 405 Mi16 and much more!

The most pleasing thing about the show and channel is people preserving the perceived ordinary cars. In essence, every day utility transport being saved. Wonderful.

It is nice to see that 1980's/1990's themed car show go to the UK. In the USA, going to one of those RADwood shows (there is about 3 or 4 of them each year in the USA) you would see basically a USA version of the festival of the unexceptional you just went to since there would be plenty of Chevy Cavaliers (especially the convertible), GM FWD A Bodies (Chevy Celebrity, Pontiac 6000, Buick Century, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera), Toyota Camry, Honda Civics, GM RWD A/G Bodies, Ford Tempo and Taurus etc. These are all cars that you would have seen a lot of on the roads back then and that there are still a lot of them on the roads even now (that Toyota Camry, you just sold onwards, you would still see plenty of the the sedan version (92-96) on the road doing daily driving duty) of course I should caution that the UK/Euro perception (of that time) that most Americans drove shiny new cars in the 1980's and 1990's is false. Yes a a lot of American did drive modern cars at that time but a lot of them also drove older cars. There were still plenty of 1960's and 1970's cars doing daily driving in the 1980's(there were even some late 1950's cars still rolling around then also) and plenty of 1970's and 1980's cars doing daily driving into the 1999-2001 time period (my first car in the late 1990's was a 1980 Chevy Malibu). Folks kept cars longer. Watch TV shows and movies from the 1980's and 1990's and you will still see a lot of older cars in the background. I think the difference with American cars and UK cars of the1970's, 1980's and 1990's is that while US cars were gas hogs and did not give a great drive (you were not taking winding roads in a 1988 Caprice Classic), they were somewhat reliable and easy to fix if there was an issue. In the UK, the average owner of a 1970's and 1980's British Leyland vehicle, probably wondered each morning as he or she got in it to go to work, if the car would start or whether they needed to hitch a ride to work.

My partner had a B3 Audi 90. Nautikblau, same wheels as the red one in the video, 2.3 10v, no quattro, and the late 4 speed automatic. Unfortunately the K-Jetronic kept acting up so he had to sell it. He did make a profit on it though! He now drives a second generation TT, which is less rare but far more reliable so far. And the fact it has more space inside is also a massive plus to us as we often move audio equipment.

If someone could bring along a retro Scalextric track with the period cars brought out in the 80's and 90's that would be extra fun, anyone remember the turbo flash F1 cars or F1 cars with real sparks?

Funnily enough, I was thinking about Montegos earlier on.
About 5 Vanden Plas' (registered?) examples left on UK roads :(
MG Montego Turbo would have been really nice to see, but even something like the 1.6 L/HL (or the VERY rare 1.3) would have been a surprise...
Maestros...I suppose they have their fans too...
Saw a lovely blue example a few years ago (B or E reg - can't remember), but I couldn't believe it's fantastic condition.
I know both cars' designs were extensively reused (especially with that freakish "hybrid" of the two in China), but there really should be a factory manual released so that they could even be rebuilt from the ground up.

The Silver Holden Ute isn't the HSV Maloo. It is a Holden VE Ute SS-V (possibly redline) with the 6L (l77) V8. HSV's are like Alpinas they are considered a different marque and as such have different badges, rear lights, bumpers and grills. The E series Maloo's used the LS2 and later the LS3 6L V8s. As for the Monaro I suspect it's a Vauxhall Monaro with a Holden Badge on the front and an HSV badge on the rear. Vauxhall spec Monaros are identical to Holden Monaros whereas the HSV's aren't called Monaro they were called HSV Coupe and had different front grill, bumper and lights and a different rear.

Just wondered if you have done a revue of an 'Austin metropolitan', one of the cars I always wanted to drive when they were around. Cheers, always good videos. Richie

Please could you try to get hold of a Citroen e-Mahari from Citroen and do a road test. I believe there may be two in the country. Not sure if they available as press cars or for review but it would make a great video for your channel if you can.

You already put the caption up but the Black Police car is a Ford Tanus ( i think ) from the 1987 film Robocop .

@27:28 odd bit of trivia concerning the white JDM Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno. The name Trueno looks like it should be pronounced True-no even though it's derived from the Spanish truenos for thunder, but in Japan it's always pronounced Toreno due to the limits of Japanese people in pronouncing the foreign word.
