  • Audiobahn came out of no where to rock the car audio scene in the late 90's and early 2000's. Quickly growing to one of the biggest brands in the 12V Industry.... Then suddenly.... Flamed out. Since then people having made a lot of big claims about the brand... Including this one.. The A1300HCT which is rated at 1200Wx1 @ 1ohm mono is often described by Audiobahn aficionados as very under rated, and puts out closer to 1600W.... Well is that true? Lets find out as this dyno is 20 years in the making. Let's find out if the amp is a Old School Gem... Or an Old School Bust !

About what I expected. It would be nice to see more of the older "under rated" amps on the dyno. You and Derrick should get together for an oldschool shootout. I know he's tested a bunch of older amps but there are tons left.

It almost made it at 2 and 4 ohms. Just couldn't make it's power at 1 ohm. After hooking up some subwoofers, and with box rise to 2-4 ohms, I see how people considered these to be good amplifiers since they did make their rated power at the higher ohm loads. @Chuck Holmes actually it was, during the early 2000's they certainly were near the top of the food chain in mobile audio equipment... I personally competed with just a single 1206q in a custom built T-line enclosure powered by a a275hcq amplifier so I was in single sub class and 150watt and under classes I metered a 147.8db and it had amazing freq range to boot! Back in 98-01 I was rocking MTX I had 2 15" 7000's on 1 mtx 1000d Then I got 4 MTX 15" 8000's on 4 MTX 81000d's and run some Kicker systems as well, One day I stopped at a dealers shop that sold Audiobahn and wanted to hear it. They where real smerk acting and said that these subs where the hardest hitting on the market and would be louder than my MTX 7000's because thats what I had at the time. I'm not going to lie the audiobahns looked good with those huge surrounds. They where the biggest surrounds at the time. So he the owner finally let me hear his car and it sounded like someone hitting a tree with a plastic wiffle bat. They did not sound better than my MTX'S at all. For such a large subwoofer I thought they would perform better. I've heard MTX 3000 12's that was more impressive. They just wasn't designed well. Made to look good not sound good. I didn't get to try the amps but by the performance of this one it doesn't look good.

If I remember correctly these amps could also be used as a mid/highs amp also and that in itself was a rare feature on an amplifier with that amount of power. I personally wouldn't call it a bust because if you think about it even at close to 1000 Watts rms it's so close you really wouldn't notice being short 200 Watts. The company should have just put the rating at 1000 and that way years later they wouldn't look suspect. Great video, keep them coming.
