- One of the things I missed a lot with all the broken tracks was getting to see all the action that had been going on around me as I fly my sorties online. I might see a dot in the distance and while I fly, my goal is to avoid it and carry on my task of dropping troops. The great thing with the DCS track replay system was going back later and seeing that dot as a player then watching what they had done in the mission within the same time frame. It is so great to be able to take a look back into the action on Enigma's Cold War server and I'm happy to show you as you fly around all the dramatic events that unfold and interconnect. Today we are flying with a channel friend who is flying escort in a Hind while we try to carry out a troop drop on a very difficult valley I struggled to get into in low light conditions before the server reset. This time we've got daylight on our side and are motivated to get our Mi-8 Hip into the smallest of places.
If you'd like to fly with other helicopter minded folks or just have an interest in them come join my discord, I really enjoy chatting with you all there and linking up to fly around together. Here's the link if you're interested: / discord - Hry
Man that slight sigh at 0:25 after the screwed up landing is so me 70% of the time when I do troop drops 😂
Hahaha it was too real I had to leave it in haha
Another reason why troop drops should be very effective in the campaign. Even without enemy AI or players shooting you, chances are you wasted a trip now and then cause you f up the landing or pickup
Incredible footage ! It was like watching a movie.
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it !
@@ryu1940❤perfect ...a real movie, i love it too
@@jamilayahyaoui101 wow thank you !
I know you’d probably rather be flying, but you need to make more of these. Very entertaining, with great editing and fitting music. Highly atmospheric.
Thank you! Haha yeah it’s a good creative outlet for me but as you can imagine it’s intensive on free time because DCS doesn’t have a rewind feature (and also a majority of the tracks don’t work which is a bummer). But that said I do enjoy making them and would make more once the tracks are fixed.
Awesome stuff! Loved to see RNZAF Sky Hawk! Reminds me of back when we used to have strike aircraft...
Oh yeah you guys had the A-4 for quite a while ! Nothing replaced them?
@@ryu1940 Sadly, no. We only have P-8A, C-130H(NZ), 757-2KC, light utility helo's and T-6C trainers these days
no defence from Emutopia :(
Man, i know the amount of effort took to rewatch replay (it can be 1 or 2 hour long) then find the exact moment to record. Sometimes for a particular scene, to get the best effect or impact, we will rewatch the replay again and explore a different camera angles. Spend up to few days to cut, piece together all the video, only those who are passionate are crazy enough to do this! XD
Glad you are back with these kind of narrative story telling, it is your channel main strength and attraction.
Thank you so much man. You know exactly what it’s like lol it’s so true you have to be a little crazy to go through the replay that much lol
I hope tracks get some love and more are not broken in the future. It’s really hard finding working ones for ECW :/
@@ryu1940 agreed. i tried to make a short clip out of my Hind sortie with my friend. the track file just failed me T_T
Nice hover pickups, I always struggle with them when they are on a steep ridge like that. I think DCS ground effect is projected 90deg to the ground instead of straight down from your rotor.
Yeah I think some wierd stuff happens with DCS ground effect on extreme slopes. Things feel off when you get closer and do pinnacle touching pick ups.
Should be "me included". I can't wait to figure this server out.
Thanks I’ll fix it !
What are you having trouble figuring out?
@@soupypunk-pk5ys Mainly just helicopter operations. Every time I've jumped in there were no other choppers to follow to see where they were taking troops.
@baaamakingbaaaa I can fly with you sometime and just quickly explain things on voice so you get an idea of how to know where to go.
@@ryu1940 That would be awesome. I just jointed the Discord. "DrugDog"
do have to wonder about the Huey pilot flying headfirst into a Shilka who'd already fired off several bursts
a beautiful video with wonderful action in it as if I'm watching a movie, great music with great scenes, all praises, the only game that calms me down and relaxes me and I fall asleep while watching or flying in it in the evening hours 🤭
Thank you ! I am glad you enjoy it.
Great video! Strangely relaxing! Awesome to wind down after a long day with your videos
Nice I’m glad you can relax to this ! I’m sure it wasn’t relaxing for the pilots involved haha
That was a great few sorties!
Yeah man that was fun!
ECW is where I came to appreciate hanging out in the chute for a bit to hear all the noises as the furball clears out
Oh yeah man especially with the awesome soundscape from multiple jets and cannons it’s pretty amazing to sit and listen!
oh dude i think those 2 mirages taking off at 4:31 was me and my buddy, thats sick!
Oh nice that’s amazing ! It was cool catching you guys take off !
Great so see you back! Great video. 😊
Thanks man !
That was fun to watch thanks for putting that together
Awesome to hear that thanks for watching ! I’m glad you had fun watching it!
I finally made it into one of your videos! My buddy and I were in the A-10s.
Oh nice ! That was you two fighting the F-1s?
Yeah, pineapple1-1 and passionfruit1-1. Your Huey videos got me into ECW back in the V1 days
@@Pin3appl3OneOne oh nice that’s really cool to hear! I definitely want to fly the Huey some more but man I’m so in tune with the Hip now it feels so strange even though it was the helicopter I started in lol
Beautiful video and storytelling !
Damn thanks man ! I appreciate it !
Great video, really wish they gave the Mi24 at least 1 or 2 R60s to help defend other helos, really feels like you cant do anything to fight back once you have been found.
Yeah it really messed up the bond that hips and hinds had. The hinds kept hips alive when they were in the area with their r60s. Now it seems kinda blah.
Another enjoyable view of ecw antics :D
Haha thank you! I love that server!
Cool idea for a vid, thanks for sharing!
Thank you NL and thanks to ED for an amazing helicopter module that is the Hip!
Awesome compilation!
Thank you !
Great edit as always man
Thanks man i appreciate it !
VRS in DCS is still modeled really unrealistically so you shouldn't feel bad to dying to it. It's basically on/off toggle at the moment and I hope they revisit and fix heli FMs some day.
Yeah that’s true once you hit the v/s under a certain airspeed it’s just on. All the helicopter pilots I’ve talked to have said they only rarely brief it because it’s usually no factor most of the times they fly.
@@ryu1940 One thing I always wonder too is if they never enter it because they've got those subtle feelings that keep them out of the situation, and the game just can't really model that subtle feel you get in either the vibrations or the slight change in lift, or if it's just over-modeled in the sense that it's too easy to enter into in DCS.
I guess I would assume it's probably somewhere in the middle. One thing I really missed in the AH-64 compared with the Mi-8 was the vibration and noise you get for the various stages of flight that make you feel like you're more in control, though it probably wouldn't be as realistic with the AH-64 in terms of sounding like a washing machine full of screws shaking itself a part.
@aaronwhite1786 yeah you’re probably right! I think most pilots talk about the lack of feeling you get sitting in the aircraft to just know what state it’s in and what you’re capable of doing in any moment. I really do love the improved sounds in the Mi-8 that came out the past few updates. It sounds so good and feels great flying and getting that auditory feedback when you do things!
@@aaronwhite1786 It's definitely over modelled in DCS, no doubt about it.
@@ryu1940first they only rarely brief it because pilots are trained to stay in their flight envelope. But VRS depends alot on the mission and (weather, altitude) conditions and there are flight ops that are more prone to VRS than others. Second you get a lot of indications prior to entering an VRS state (heavy vibrations, torque flux fluctuation, etc) that are hard to detect/feel in DCS. We had a couple of VRS incidents/accidents over the last few years in europe so I would say is always a factor when flying helicopters. But yes I also crash due to VRS once in a while 😅 (I love your Hip videos btw ;))
Amazing video. I definitely don't pay much attention to the larger scope of combat beyond what I'm doing in my helo. Even when flying with someone else, my scope stays narrowed on just what we're doing.
Thank you! Yeah I am the same way I get so focused on what I’m doing I may see a dot in the distance and all I can think about is how to avoid it and keep doing my job. I like looking in the track and seeing all the crazy combat and amazing moments other players have.
It’s called a ‘combat bubble’.
Great stuff again!
Thanks man !
Some of, if not the best DCS footage, it's a shame people are so focused on stock dogfights spam and overdone trailers.
This "live server" footage really captures what the game is like.
Thank you man! I love seeing other people get thier awesome moments in their sorties all at the same time I’m doing work in my Hip and try to share it in a cohesive form. This server is amazing for that kind of stuff because it’s a well balanced server.
Damn this was really good
Thanks man! Couldn’t enjoy it without you and the team putting in all that work. You guys are amazing!
Awesome dude :)
Thanks man !
Great stuff
Thank you!
Ryu, I love the chill music you use in your videos if you could link some of the music you use I would love to play this in the background while I fly sometime! Thanks! Love your videos you make it look like flying the Hip is a breeze LOL
Thank you! There’s a couple comments here that I’ve posted a list of the song names. I’m away from my PC but the comments should have a playlist that you can then search for.
Thanks!@@ryu1940
VRS is a pain in the ass lol, one tip if you're going to descend quick, make sure to be above ETL speed then you'll never enter ETL, then quickly flare when you nearing the ground, if it's a narrow valley and not a lot of room, you just got to very very slowly bring the helicopter down, don't go above 300 meters/sec descent
Great tips man yeah you are right. You’re safe if you stay above 50kph in the Hip you can descend as fast as you want but that final nit you’ve got to be careful as the speed drops off. I learned my lesson haha
@@ryu1940 definitely the hardest heli to fly in DCS, I've crashed plenty of times haha
@@Lungolordsharder than the huey?
@@439sparky1 yeah, Huey is nimble in comparison and a lot harder to introduce vrs in it and subsequently easier to get out of vrs
Gotta say, your music choice is exquisite. Mind sharing your playlist on the server?
Thank you! On the server when I’m playing I actually don’t listen to any music. The songs here are from the CZcams audio library that musicians and creators upload to and can use license free. There a lot of cool free music in there!
I just went through the video editor to pull all these out for you, it is a great idea I will start to post those in my discord when I release a video for people curious about the music choices!

@user-gd8nm1mp1q no problem!
I've had the Hind for a month now (put 200 or so hours on it) and I can say that it's been the best chopper I've flown...loads of fun at low and slow. And an outright Thug on the battlefield!
Can't wait to be confident enough to play on a server with the 'Croc'.
Wondering about which Australian server would be good to join...I'm still not sure how to setup and use SRS
(Damn this game has a steep learning curve 😅)
Oh man join our discord we have hind pilots and a few that play from Australia and NZ. Enigma's Cold War server is definitely a great place to fly the Hind on. Just today about 4 Hinds and myself dropping recon troops for them in the Hip cleaned up a whole segment of the battlefield together. Some listen on SRS but we just talk amongst our flight with the discord voice comms.
discord.gg/vJRKzdsfMc if you are interested, we love helping folks get into it because you're right there is a pretty steep learning curve and while many things are simple it is just hard for a new person to know what they need to know
would it be possible for you to add song names and timestamps of when they start in description? specifically the one at 13:45
I am hesitant to add it to the description but I wrote it all up for another person in one of the comments.

oh man it has been a lot of fun we just had like 5 of us on clearing a hex. Everyone was in Hinds and I was dropping recon all around for them. I had such a blast. Cant wait to see you there man!
would use it more if replay had rewind function
oh man I would LOVE a rewind function! Even if it was just for the last 30-60 seconds. Anything would be an improvement.

Awesome man and if you see Charger 1-1 say hi as well !
11:53 Beautiful
A classic ECW moment lol
are the tracks fixed now??
No the larger population tracks are broken still. You can only get them to work if the server is relatively low population. This was when there was 20 or fewer players on iirc. I tried a full server track last night and it didn’t work.
When is ECW on nighttime???
Some of the missions start in the morning and go four hours so it’s dark then becomes light and some missions end the server after the sun goes down.
typically it only stays nighttime long enough for me to figure out where the instrument light controls are... then back to daylight
I’d love to play on Enigma’s server but most of the time its on the Syria map which I don’t have…
Definitely recommend buying that when able because yeah it’s like you say it’s mostly on Syria. We did a 70s Syria campaign and now we are on a 60s Syria campaign. I’m guessing Caucasus is next after this.
@@ryu1940 Yeah, I remember around 2 weeks ago it was on Caucasus and I got really excited only for it to quicklt change back to Syria 😅
@@439sparky1 I think people don’t like the Caucasus layout so they let one side steam roll it. It seems to never be on that map very long.
@@ryu1940 Yeah that makes sense, its a shame though. Ah well, gotta get me a desert map when I can
@@439sparky1 yeah it used to be really good when the Caucasus map was bigger I loved it a lot. Hopefully they could get back to something like that one day. Syria might actually be on sale right now since they have the spring sale going at least!
