  • We are back out to sea on Enigma's Cold War Server. Today we are taking the Mi-8 Hip and operating from land with an Mi-24 Hind escort. Right now the server is running on the split Caucasus map and I was doing some troop runs ashore when I noticed off on the horizon big oil tankers and ships! So I chatted over in the discord if anyone wanted to join me and we picked up a Hind to come along. If you'd like to do something like this there are many of us in the discord and it's becoming real nice seeing others multicrewing or running multiship operations with each other.
    If you want to try it out come join us here:

    the ship and added object physics are probably still very weird. I sunk a lot of ships by slingloading cargo on them and keeping it on a leash

      Lol that’s awesome. I’m guessing that wasn’t on this server since we don’t have slingloading here on ECW.

    I might have to look at flying The helicopters in DCS cos the only jet I'm reasonably good at is the A4.

      @vracan Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@ryu1940 if you prone to motion sickness in real life then you may get it too in VR (after all the point of vr is to mimick real-life). Make sure pc is powerful enough though to get good frame rates becuase that in itself can cause motion sickness. I personnaly do sometimes get motion-sickness in real-life like on roller-coasters, but never have had it in VR!

    the flag and mast dont have colision models. it is kind of annoying, but if you call in to land through comms menu, it puts flag and fence down.

      @ryu1940  Před 5 měsíci

      That’s good to know thank you. I need to see if the radio information for those ships is posted anywhere for ECW. I know for private missions I set them when I fly off of ships with the MH60R mod and it works just how you’re describing.

  • @keyogen
    @keyogen Před 5 měsíci +2

    Yeah, I've been practicing in the hip. I can get into a hover like 300ft off the ground. Try to get my attitude lower, and then I just fall out of the sky.

    • @ryu1940
      @ryu1940  Před 5 měsíci +3

      ah that is great you are practicing it still and can get to a hover. Ideally you want to hover at a lower altitude. The best case is hovering in ground effect because you get a little bit of extra help. The ground effect is under 21m and most noticeable really low around 5m.
      When you hover really high up out of ground effect like at 300ft, you must be extremely careful at that point if you want to lower yourself by your collective. You will not want to exceed 4m/s descent rate.
      If I was in that situation I would fly above 50kph and just fly the helicopter downwards instead of trying to use the collective to lower myself. And then when I get lower I will try to slow down again and attempt to hover closer to ground.

    • @keyogen
      @keyogen Před 5 měsíci +2

      @ryu1940 I find myself ballooning up when I try to slow down from forward flight. I can start at 30m and end at 120m with full collective down. Not if I'm coming in too fast or pitching too much, or both.

    • @ryu1940
      @ryu1940  Před 5 měsíci

      @@keyogenyeah it is a balancing act. A good exercise is one in that landing video I made where you just fly along the runway and attempt to slow down but stay at the same altitude.
      I think you're doing the first bit correctly, you need to lower the collective and then the second part takes a little bit of balancing. You need to pull the cyclic back but not beyond the point that you will actually start climbing. Just pull it back to maintain the altitude and if you start climbing lower it forward a tiny bit.
      If you hold that position you will eventually slow down and then you'll get to the point where you need to add more collective back in or you will begin to fall. By then you'll be very slow and starting the hovering phase.

      @RoamingAdhocrat Před 5 měsíci +1

      don't use a joystick curves - saturate the axis to get a flat linear response instead. makes hovering _much_ easier in my experience!
