Possibly the most underrated SNL sketch of all time.
Jon...a comedic master of voices and movement...is perfect no matter what role he plays. This one is perfectly waaaaay over the top. A master.
"ACTING! THANK YOU!"
"Oh........What you must think of me! I'm being so naughty!"
Love his character in this sketch.
And that classic Lovitz catchphrase, "Goodbye, everybody. Goodbye!"
OMG! I have been saying it like he has for years, as a flamboyant joke!! And here is the origin!! 😂😂😂
This is one of my most favorite SNL skits, with a classic SNL line-up and an amazing host in Tom Hanks!
I have to admit, maybe Tom Hanks did some Victorian movies (In his early career). However seeing Tom in these sketches are hilarious!
Jon Lovitz is the best part about this sketch!! He cracks me up!!
I had this on a VHS tape.. after 30 years I still know every word by heart!
I selected this knowing I’d seen it before but once it got going, I realized I must have watched it 50 times, I knew every next line!
Me and my brother still say “don’t! you! BELIEVE IT!” and I had forgotten where it comes from!
Weeell!
You can see they are having fun with this sketch.
Netflix has rebooted this series. It's called Bridgerton.
One of the best skits ever on SNL. Lovitz is way over the top and makes this hilarious. Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson and Tom Hanks are superb. A classic!
Jon Lovitz is masterful in this sketch.
I remember watching this with my parents and feeling really awkward.
I bet!
LOL!
Got to love a little ribaldry now and again! Such randy scamps they are.
I don’t know the Asian guys name but he would kill as this character!!!
Jan Hooks... even on another era, she's a real Vicki. RIP, legend!
Jon Lovitz achieves immortality with this performance
Haha, yes.
Oh, indeed. This was easily five times funnier than the audience thought it was. Brilliance. And...*Acting*!
he achieved Azrael Abyss years before that other guy
Nothing tops John Lovitz and John Lithgow together on SNL ... ACTING !!!
Well put.
Jan Hooks was very underrated . R.I.P.
She's not dead.....
@@ryanpartlow2961 yeah she is
Yeah, she left way too early.
She was terrific
@@ryanpartlow2961 She died of throat cancer several years ago.
The tracers on the candles at 4:04 only make this more trippy
You made me go back and check that out. Man!!! Talk about attention to detail!!!
This was so freaking funny it almost sent me to the hospital
Tom Hanks is 🔥. And Jon Lovitz is everything.
You paint with words.
Loving Victoria's Goldilocks hairstyle!
who is the blonde ?
Victoria Jackson was Gorgeous!! ☺️♥️
They should have done more of these. Lovitz was a genius!
"And we're invited to watch...LET'S! "
the late 80's to late 90's was the best SNL era. And Victoria Jackson was one of my faves. Probably the best looking female ever on snl. Although jan hooks looked great too. RIP Jan.
@@nonnenja2281 Same, also Julia Louise Dreyfus.
Cheri Oteri
Because that's the most important characteristic of a performer is how good looking they are.......
@@lazy_lefty go back to school and learn something called COMPREHENSION... then read my post again... and get back to me. 🙄
Yepp it's true.... "common sense.... ISN'T" is absolutely real.
Too bad she went cuckoo bird crazy.
I've got this on a VHS "Best of" somebody, I remember it & Jon Lovitz was so great in this role!
I always wanted to see the false eunuch in the harem skit. I seriously doubt he kept his hands to himself
Don’t you believe it!
When I was younger, I loved Victoria Jackson in this skit. Now, it's all about Jan Hooks.
Too bad about the being dead thing though.
@@tackyman2011 True enough.
Back when this aired, Jan Hooks was the subject of feverish urges from me. Now after all these years, I see they were not gone, merely forgotten
There is still room for Jackson! The innocent girl act came naturally to her and stole the show, and is still worth a marvel.
I loved them both. But I think the scales tip in favor of that ample bossum.
I can see Tom Hanks exquisite acting abilities in this one.
Except for his English accent, it's beyond awful.
Hard to believe this show was truly funny at one time.
All those costumes and sets....impressive😊
This sketch originally aired the same week that Super Mario Bros 3 was released in the United States
This skit is so much funnier nearly 30 years later. I know the audience wasn't digging it, but I am. Jon is the REAL Legend.
How the hell is this 26 years old 😂
I still remember the 'cool' kids back then, coming to school Monday and quoting SNL lines from the prior weekend.
@@imdjc4 if they could stay up that late, they were cool...i always felt left out of those discussions, sadly.
30 now😭
The passage of time.
31 years and i can, still, sport a modest erection. Now, i shall go "Jacks-on" (and off), "Victoria('s-ly.") Never mind. i forgot my "Hanks"kerchief.
Rest, In Peace, Jan Hooks. I Love you (who the hell does not.)
Why didn't they bring this sketch back when Lovitz guest-starred with Adam Driver? Driver would've killed in this sketch.
Having Lovitz as H. R. Pickens, lol
Aww... cute young Tom hanks. Took me a while to recognize him... 😆😆
He's unrecognisable
I saw this as a kid and was laughing so hysterically I woke up my parents.
I didn't quite get the entire joke, but I knew it was comedic gold.
Tom Hanks once said his face has a handsome side, & the other was a comedy side. Must be using the handsome side here.
My god! is that a young Tom Hanks?
And so good to see Jon Lovitz, again.
Ah, this brings back such good mamories!
All these years later I still laugh my ass off at that skit oh the dreary life of a boot black don’t you believe it
yeah this sketch made a man out of me, back in the day
Jon is a true national treasure
please just stop. I am on a crusade to end the usage of this absurd expression 'national treasure', wherever I find it.
That's a very young Tom Hanks as the bootblack, isn't it?
one of my favorites
Is it really Tom Hanks? He is sexy with hair!
I'm pretty sure he's wearing a wig. I don't think he ever grew his hair that long.
@@macmacreynolds8712 You're "pretty sure he's wearing a wig" ? ! LOL Are you blind as well as stupid and/or insane? Of course, it's a wig. Hanks, as anyone with a functioning eyeball along with an I.Q. above that of a turnip need do nothing more than view an image depicting Hanks with his own natural head of hair(there's no shortage of such photographic evidence available for perusal in the public realm ) to see clearly that he hasn't the genetics to grow that length nor texture of scalp hair even in his youth.
Hanks' own , curly, genetically programmed to thinning, head of hair even by this somewhat early point(the time of this production)had been sufficiently ravaged so as to render whatever lay beneath this prop wig and atop his noggin naturally was hardly anything worth admiring.
@@tommyriam8320 You are a real douche! :-)
@@tommyriam8320 yOoOu foOl ! Spateth in the eye by me, silly dumpling, for even dreaming to cast a wager that Tom Hanks might'th within rational conception naturally grown such voluptuous brunette thiccitude For HARK! the witch who plucked out both your eyes would know - that Hanks is bald, his head doth glow ! Why, only a meager IQd son of a codsphwip would surmise that telling it straight could end up a lie.
Jon Lovitz's character here is my spirit animal....we seem into the same kind of kink, lol
Do you like possibly getting caught or catfights? 😁
Peepholes ? 😯
Serious Bob Hope vibe coming off Tom Hanks here (at times :^D)
3:37 Anyone think Emma Stone could play Jan Hooks in a remake of this scene?!
Damn, Tom Hanks playing a sexy guy? That's creative casting.
That got way hotter than I thought it would haha
The sexiest thing I’ve seen on CZcams!
I've always loved this sketch from the first time I saw it live. Classic.
I just figured out Tom Hanks. He does dramas in movies. Then fulfills his comedic side, which he is just as passionate about, on SNL and talk shows.
At the start of his career all he did was comedy movies.
Bachelor Party is still the best Tom Hanks movie of all time. And The Burbs is severely underrated.
@@TRJ2241987 I have been saying that the world needs a Tom Hanks Comedy movie.
I quote this sketch way more than I should.
The audience isn't laughing at Lovitz enough
Miss Jackson is a natural comedian !!
If you're going to go classy with "miss," you ought to use "comedienne" to be consistent.
As I look back and rewatch these sketches I'm reminded how incredible Kids in the Hall was.
I watched this basically just for Victoria Jackson.
Haha me too then only thing i thought of was if only Jan Hooks shows up and ''Lovitz'' ohoooooooo
Vic Jackson and Norm MacDonald never made millions and were among the greatest cast members over the shows long history.
@@NightMahar he was great in Billy Madison though
@socal rocks Bocci balls! She turned into my grandmuddah!
Too bad she went kookadooks.
Victoria Jackson's image in the thumbnail made me click this video.
I always loved Victoria! So pretty and dingy!
Tom Hanks was definitely the "Fifth Beatle" of the SNL cast in the late 80s and early 90s.
Victoria Jackson was a pretty ordinary actress. Jan Hooks though owns every scene she's in. Her acting was outstanding.
I’m assuming you’ve never seen UHF
Straight men would think differently
Jackson was terrible on SNL. She was fine when she had time to learn lines.
She did pretty good with the accent though. She’s good in this one.
This is just a classic sketch. It seems like one Conan would’ve wrote. Wonder if he did? 🤔
I just watched "The Favourite" and felt I had to watch this...
Now this is theatre!!!!!!!
I legit did not understand why he got mad about the threesome until I was in my 30s. The courting process and the chase itself is lost most these days.
hehe yeah funny how that works huh?
I would say the courting process and chase are a lot longer and more complicated than they were in the past.
@@hadracks And they involve lawyers a lot more too.
Jon Lovitz tour de force performance.
Holy shit, good acting and a well written plot!
Close your eyes, You can hear Woody (Tom Hanks) cleaning boots.
We love you, Jon!
The best host ever.
This bit went right over the audience's head.
What do you mean?
@@orchdork775 Listen to the audience reactions. They’re asleep and not understanding the jokes that this sketch portrays. Maybe it’s the language, maybe it’s the context. The sketch is very Monte Pythonesque with subtle, dry humor not slapstick “pie in your face” stuff.
@@cogman62 They must not have seen it cumming. Er.. A totally classic sketch imprinted in my brain forever.
Over the head and down the crotches.
If I had to pick a decade of SNL that was the most solid OVERALL, I'd go maybe 1987-97.
Overacting is sometimes the best acting.
I just made my way through 4 hours of Ben-Hur for the first time in years, and you have a good point. How movies and acting have changed since those days..
That's true, and if you want a hilarious example of overacting, watch the young girl playing Maureen in this classic ephemeral film:

Prime example of chewing the scenery
"Overacting is sometimes the best acting." -- William Shatner
@@DunmoresMovieMania as a watcher of old movies even going back to the 1910s i have observed that it is an on-going stylistic evolution...everyone acted that way before movie directors started to realize that movies didn't have to just be filmed plays... it is quite fascinating to watch classic from the different eras, and I highly recommend taking advantage of the Internet's allowing us to do so...in that regard, this is a cool time to be alive.
They should bring this back
Wow, I didn't think Tom Hanks could remind me of Chris Hemsworth.
Phil Hartman was one of the best players of all times. R.I.P.
I love it, so rrrrrribald!
This feels like it should be in the "18th century classics" section of another site
Lovitz is great
Reeeemove it!!! LOL
Such a great title.....
Jon lovitz has always been my favorite. I remember lovitz kicking pauly shores ass on MTV during spring break.
Indeed!
Jane Hooks and Nora Dunn as the Sweeney Sisters was golden!
Mike Myers doing the opening title narration...nice
That candelabra is a beautiful prop!
LOL. Tom looks like Stephen seal with that ponytail!
Jon Lovitz sounds exactly like Chief Blue Meanie :D
R.I.P. Jan Hooks
Why is Jon Lovitz so funny?!
It is Always Impressive how Lorne Michaels manages to HIRE the very Finest performers.
It's always a sad day when a Lovitz,Jackson,Hooks......ect. Leaves the show .
Victoria Jackson was gorgeous
no obvious staring at teleprompters in the before times.
Today's snl cast and writing staff needs to go back and take a good long look at skits like this one.
May God bless you all.
Remember when the actors on SNL didn't LOOK like they were reading cue cards, and actually made eye contact with each other while they were speaking?
Master Thespian... Ho ho ho! ....... Line!
Remember watching this when it aired. I had forgotten Hanks sound more Australian than English...
As a kiwi I didn’t notice it was more Australian. I think I’d notice if it did sound Australian. I hope Tom wasn’t trying to sound Australian.
Thinmbnail picture made me think it was Christina Aguilera. Till I saw how young Tom Hanks was. Lol 😂
Part 2 please
There's one with Mel Gibson and Nora Dunn somewhere on YT.
Is this just a romance novel reimagined!? Bc Tom Hanks as this character should be written into a novel, please!? Lol it would be awesome.
When SNL was at its best.
