UPDATE: Intuit is making it harder and harder to get the desktop version, and it does require a monthly or annual subscription.
The reseller mentioned in our video is no longer able to offer the Desktop Pro or Premier versions; they only have access to Enterprise.
The best way to get access to Pro or Premier is to upgrade the software. Here’s a how-to article: quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/update-products/upgrade-quickbooks-desktop-pro-plus-premier-plus/L8B6lkyCq_US_en_US
If you are looking for the most cost-effective option, check out the Simple Start version of QuickBooks Online.
I do have a special link for new users that gives you the first month for free and a discounted rate for 12 months: CandusKampfer.com/qbo

All part of the track-trace-database technocracy the WEF and their acolytes are pushing. Anything put online is now property of shady gov't agencies who, as Trudeau showed via the trucker protest, will use hosted cloud services as a form of attack on those who don't comply.

Using the desktop version is definitely a safer option if you are concerned about the integrity of your client's data, QBO will always be a riskier alternative because there will be hacking and data leaks. They are a bigger target for attacks.

This is Intuit's way of fleecing us out of our hard earned money. As an accountant I am not excited about it either.....so many new clients are using the online version that I am FORCED to learn it. I am looking at Patriot Software to switch my payroll processing for stand alone client files. This is the wrong time of year to have to do any changing.....

Wow, so if I upgrade to the subscription and don't pay every year, I can't access my files. Not a question, just a statement. Nothing like being held hostage. Because I outsource my payroll and don't use access online banking thru the bank, I will just keep my desktop for a while.

I just upgraded from 2016 desktop (loved it, easy to use... have used similar versions since 2010). Just "upgraded" to the online version at $30/month due to a myriad of reasons.
This experience is similar to the time when Microsoft did the that huge "upgrade" / change to Excel. I was an Intermediate user for years and became a beginner with the newest version.
At least I'll be forced to learn something new.

Candus - I used to use QB for business when I had my own business. I have continued to use QB and upgraded in 2020 for my own personal use. I love it for my own personal because it is fast, easy, very familiar and that is the only thing I use it for. Because I use it for personal use only, I do not download any online services, do payroll, online banking, none of it. All of my backups are local on flash drive. The only thing I do "online" are the updates they send. Will I lose files or anything if I don't upgrade? I could use your advice.

I do not use most of the features of QA. We have a few rentals and i use QB to import transactions from banks and cc and the categories on checks is helpful. WE done do payroll or invoices etc. we have sold some of the rentals so now it only is for maintenance and income on 3 or 4 properties. I never plan to expand use of QB. And has been a bear since last year or so when i was getting multiple imports of same transaction (almost had me in tears) So give that this is all we use can you recommend a direction

I have QB 2020 for Mac. The only thing I do online for my desktop version is download transactions from my bank and credit cards. Does that fall under the category of "online banking?" I don't do payroll, send invoices or anything else, so I'd like to just continue using my 2020 desktop version. However, if I have to manually enter every transaction, I will likely need to switch to a much more affordable subscription. Thank you so much for the video!

Thank you for the info! We are a small business with no employees and have been using desktop, but it looks like we are going to have to migrate. When I select "Simple Start" and try to add my business, it says that it's not compatible with my subscription. Can I start without adding the business and import later? Also we have another company to manage a rental house. Do I need to purchase two subscriptions for these two businesses?

I am currently a QB Desktop for MAC user. Last year QB told me I had to switch to the annual subscription which was around $300. This year it has jumped up to over $600. I am a single user, using QB for my personal finances only. I post my own deposits, schedule my own bill pays & run a report at year end for my CPA. Do I actually need the subscription version? If not, how do cancel the subscription & still be able to use my QB Desktop for MAC? Thanks

Thank you for your video! I just want to be sure I understand correctly. I am currently using QuickBooks Pro Desktop 2019. I have retired, so no longer using it for my business and only personal use now and not using any online features. It is mainly just being used for my personal bookkeeping. I do receive a ton of alert notices that it is no longer supported and it seems I do have more glitches in the software (which I have been feeling might be QBooks messing with my software to motivate me to upgrade) but other then that it does still seem to work for me. I have been looking at alternative means to manage my personal finances (such as moving to just MS Excel) but would prefer to just stay with what is in place, familiar and manageable. Will my QuickBooks Desktop 2019 version continue to work for me??? Or should I co tiniest to explore alternatives?? Thank you.

So, I am a small business, actually two small businesses and believe it or not I am still using QB 2012 and it works perfectly for what we need. I have my "desktop" version on a online server - (not on my office desktop) which allows me to access my books from ANY computer that I have the online server downloaded too. I wish that I would have updated to the last desktop version before having to pay for the annual subscription. What version is the last version that does not require the annual subscription? If I can find that version would I be able to upgrade my QB2012 to that version without having to pay the annual subscription? Thank you for your response. Tony

Hello, thank you for posting your video. I have a question. I am currently running QB 2020 and yes they no longer support it. I called QB when they first warned about not supporting any longer and they tried to sell me the online version. I am not interested in not owning my data so I want to stay with online. They told me desktop was no longer available so when I saw your video I was surprised that I can purchase desktop 2023. My question is when you noted that if you don't pay annually you will not be able to see your data, was that only for the online version only or is that now for the desktop as well? I am going to upgrade today to the 2023 version that I did not know existed because Intuit does not want people using desktop any longer. Thank you again for your video's. I am now a subscriber! :-)

Hi Candus. Thank you for the video. I got a disturbing call from my QB provider and the were definitely selling FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) to push upgrading to annual subscription. I am a Desktop 2020 multi-pack user. I was told that I would not be able to bulk send invoices to clients via email if I didn't upgrade. I questioned them a multiple times and they assured me that bulk emailing of invoices capability would be cut off. They said I would have to PDF each invoice and then create individual emails and attach invoice PDF and then send emails to clients one by one. Does that seem correct to you??? I was suspicious of their claim and read the list of discontinued services (same one you presented) and the were all add-on services. We don't use any add-on services and the closest thing I could find was losing the ability to include a "payment link" in the body of your invoice emails. We don't use payment links either. Also, they emphasized, with some drama, that our QB file was way too big for Desktop and that compacting and/or deleting the audit history typically results in a corrupted file... and then you are scr**ed", they said. I deleted the audit history a couple of years ago and it did significantly reduce the file size. We have always had a large than typically QB file since we are 30 years old. Is there really a "danger size", in your opinion? We do maintain regular backups of our QB file. Thank you again for the video. I became a subscriber and will tune in to the Q/A if not too late.

I can no longer email statements using QB 2020 desktop. I thought it was because we installed the software on a new Windows 11 computer. Still might be but I have to print each statement to a PDF and then go into my email and attach the PDF so send statements. This slows down my process substantially. :-(

It doesn't make sense, if you do the backpack file on your remote server how would this affect QB or QBO itself? It's not like you are using their cloud storage service, and nobody would because the client data would be compromised. What exactly do they mean when they say your file is too big?
They just want money, nickel, and diming just like Adobe.

I'm not clear on what you mean by "you will no longer have access to your files". Do you mean that if we don't upgrade, we won't have access to Payroll files? Or that we won't have access to ANY of the files? I currently use the 2019 Mac version of QB desktop, and was not planning to upgrade right away because I don't use payroll. But obviously, I would have to upgrade if you're saying I won't have access to any files.

      Hi Kathy,
Once you upgrade to the annual subscription (any version past 2021), if you don't continue to pay each year you will lose access to all of your files. If you need to continue to use payroll and stick with Desktop, you will need to update to the annual 2023 subscription.

I use QB desktop 2020 for Mac as an elementary school PTO treasurer - tracking deposits, expenses and creating checks for reimbursement. That's truly it - no payroll, live support, online backups etc. Will anything change for me on June 1st? Additionally - over the summer, I am transferring my role to someone new who will be using a PC laptop - how should I proceed with setting up my replacement treasurer, and not lose any of the old data? Thank you!!

      Hi Carrie,
Thank you for sharing your process with Quickbooks Desktop and the changes that are coming up. We totally understand your frustration with it. I noticed you asked about not seeing the training for this. I wanted to let you know that we have a training that covers the A-Zs of the how-tos of QB, and if you'd like to learn more you can attend our Customizing QuickBooks workshop. Save your seat here:

I'm in the UK After June 2023 will I still be able to access my QuickBooks Desktop data to view previous trading years and VAT reports and print off reports and past invoices should the need arise ?
