That's about a 400% rate increase for QB desktop. For the past 18 years I've bought a desktop version and used it for three years, and then upgraded. QB Pro 2020 was $318 and lasted me three years. Now I will be forced to pay $549 annually. This is insulting, so I'm now researching their competitors products. Pure greed.
Intuit should be ashamed. It's not just greed, it's shameless greed and karma is coming. They won't always be a monopoly, but in the meantime, I think Intuit needs an anti-trust suit.
I have 2019 desktop Pro version, I've been using quickbooks since DOS, I just upgrade every few years. Now they want a yearly subscription and online only. It's BS, I'll keep using what I have now, until I can't I no longer have employee's anyway. But wanted to upgrade but not annually.
Hello Hector! Thanks so much for this video, it was really helpful. I have a question for you - as a fellow CPA I have several clients that use various years' QB Desktop Pro versions. Up until now, they've been able to give me a jump drive or Dropbox back file that I could simply restore on my end. Do I need to get ProAdvisor - Premier or can I still get away with ProPlus?
Agreed. My renewal for Desktop 2023 is $550 🇺🇸. That is fricking insane. I will be shopping for options to move away from QB. The cost should be 1/2 to 1/3 of the purchase price.
@@laurak5196 Looks like QB is now going to$650/yr in 2024. This for the renewal of Desktop. If I don’t renew, I have “view only” access first twelve months. I’ve got to find something else. It’ll be $1k soon.
Great video! Question...so Ive been a QB user since 2007. Desktop Pro. Im on 2022 Desktop pro. Im considering switching to the QB online. Since QB pro is now subscription based, 3 user is almost $1000 a year now :( So its about the same cost as QB online. I use QB for basically invoicing, paying bills, inventory, purchase orders, writing checks, payroll. I was messing with the Online and there is a learning curve for sure but I also have some custom reports I made in desktop. I was also told there is an app on the Mac you can use for accessing QB online? or its all web based? Any insight would be great! How much of a learning curve is there??? Thanks
If you only have one company, the online version may work for you. If you have several LLC's (companies) you are currently using QB desktop for, you won't be able to do this with QB online.
Nicely presented and very helpful. The writing seems to be on the wall that for small users in particular, Intuit wants everyone to move to on-line. I would expect the premium for Desktop - especially single user - to keep getting higher. That said, for us, the maid obstacle is the difference between the Desktop interface and the browser interface. My book-keeper and our accountant both just refused to go online last year because of that. The Accountant even suggested we go back to a spreadsheet! I have watched the video for the new QB-App and it seems this tries to present a user interface that emulates the Desktop one. This would be really helpful to us. Thank You. PS one more question: If we walk away from QB and do not renew our subscription, how will we be able to access our data?
Hi there, QB Desktop timesheets had a "hidden" column. (QB payroll services is not used). When the "hidden" column is checked for a particular day and it's hours in timesheets, where do these hours go because they are no longer viewable? Are the hours deleted? Is there a report to pull that shows the history and past dates? And somewhere it mentions the hours are "unbilled" when the "billable" has been checked.

My company just moved into QBO but I will need to still access and make changes to the desktop version for at least another year. Or can I maybe downgrade my subscription. we use enterprise although we probably didn't need to.
For the desktop version 2021 premier (not plus) I bought from you last year (before it was terminated), I remember its license will free to update the latest version every year till 2025, it that correct?
If you bought the PLUS subscription you get the UPGRADE (2021, 2022, 2023,etc..) for free. If you bought the permanent license (one time cost) you only get that year’s and 2021 is supported through 05/31/2024. I am just curious, you buy the software out right in the past and now they want you to buy a new version. I have retired and my business is a shell of what it was 30 years ago. I still do some service for some clients and send a monthly invoice. So now they say my version is no longer supported, okay I don't need any support. I have been using qbooks for a long time and now days I just use my data, memorized transactions and batch email. That is it, so now they turn off the features I am using and will not let me email my invoices. So I cannot use the software I bought just because support runs out? Is there not a way I can take my memorized transactions and batch them and send to my personal email?
I bought 2022 right after the cutoff thinking it would be the last one I ever bought (I'm in the same position ......winding down slowly). The salesman at Intuit told me I wouldnt be affected by the subscription thing because I bought a hard copy as well as the download. I was recently locked out of my own data. Older versions of QB Desktop (2021 and earlier) will still work the same though, correct? I mean as long as you don't need payroll or support right? Other than excel, is there a way to keep your data (2022 & later versions). I think it's pretty crappy that you have to pay every year even if you aren't using it but don't want to lose your data. It seems like they could just take away the ability to add new transactions or something. I have a client switching to qbo from desktop 2020.....I'll still be able to use desktop for historical data right? Thanks!

I also don't want all this data in the cloud. It doesn't need to be for most small businesses. I also can't stand the high price of the online version. It's not very affordable for start-ups.
Totally agree. Desktop software has always been bottom of the barrel, full of bugs, and maybe even intentionally so... trying to push users to online. I hope they go out of business and competitor comes in, or else they get bought out.

There is no limit to the number of companies you can have in desktop... we dont sell desktop anymore, you need to contact intuit quickbooks directly
@@HectorGarciaCPA Thanks Hector.
I wonder if the old 2003 Quickbooks version can transfer to the newest quickbooks.. maybe you can help on this topic..
Not sure… i think you might need help from Intuit
2003 should be able to make the trip to the new version. if not, you could reach out to support, the salesman would help you converti it to online, and then you can export it to a newer version
@@jonathanhopfquickbookscons3661 I just did this with a client upgrading from 2013. After 3 1/2 hours on the phone with Support, it was discovered that QB can only upgrade a maximum three years until you reach the year you want. Ie. 2013 to 2016 then 2016-2019 then 2019 to 2021 etc. If you do not have all the Versions needed, you can call Support and they will give downloads of Trial Copies for each year. It was a pain.
NO ONE CAN HELP ME!!! I've used QB Desktop for 14 years and the insane price increase & subscription BS is driving me crazy. We have a very small business and I am the only user. HOW do I transfer my QB data to a new simpler accounting system? Can't find ANY answers.
Transferring data is a huge ordeal, a lot of work… this is why you can’t find an “easy button” as it does not exist
@@HectorGarciaCPA QB is the devil. To jump $200 for a subscription in 1 year and forcing people to pay for services they don't use is great for the QB Monopoly, but not for us small fry.
@@HectorGarciaCPA Essentially, what you're telling me is that QB is insulin and I have no choice but to buy the insulin at THEIR insane price? WARNING: Anyone with a small shop (under 10 employees) do NOT use QB or you'll be enslaved to them for life. I don't think I'm the only small business owner to feel this way.
I'm in a similar situation and will likely start to build out a custom Excel document or find a well made one. Really just need to output income statements & balance sheets.
Hi Hector, Can you make you video channel making videos on accounting or bookkeeping concepts etc.....
Try AccountingStuff great channel
We are trying to figure out how the new subscription based will work with clients. When we download 2024, does it wipe out the 2023 version? If it does, and the client is using the 2023 version, will we be able to send them their entries back since we would be in the 2024 version?
The data will not be lost, just carries over
@@HectorGarciaCPA This isn't what I was asking. I know the data can always be updated. I'm wondering about clients that are still on the 2023 version while we would be on the 2024 version since QuickBooks has already sent us the link to download it.
@@CHEREKPUCCIQUICKINC Once you upgrade the Database (QB file) they will need to upgrade to access the data file.
Thanks!
When you have to buy a new laptop or computer, it will be Windows 11 and it will require QBD 2023 only. You will not be able to transfer data over to the new laptop.
@@lizschneider1039 I’ve got Windows 11 and have at least 5 versions of QBD from 2022 to 2016 and still use them.
Will you please do a video showing alternative accounting software! I think this important because this price increase clearly indicates Intuit is on its way out if business.
I don’t know know any other :(
I am using quickbooks from last 10 years and now migrating to Open source ERP. ERPNext and Odoo are under consideration
@@tariq4846 let us know how it went
@@HectorGarciaCPA ERPNext is very simple and close to QB in usage yet very powerful. I am struggling to migrate all data from QB to ERPNext yet not successful.
How about Netsuite?
👍👍👍
:)
Hey Hector, why dont you ever make videos about automation, my job is entering sales orders all day from Purchase Orders sent from small distributors. this is so time consuming, why are there no tutorials about automating this process.
Because there isn’t good tools for that
Can you create a video showing HOW TO RECORD ON QB ONLINE IF I GIVE LOANS TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND HOW TO RECORD THEIR PAYMENTS, THANKS,
Might no do this
Hector - what about Xero or Sage as alternatives?
I dont use any… QB is all I have known for 20 years
I have used xero and have been a quickbooks pro advisor since 2011 when my tech support job (at intuit supporting quickbooks) went away. while xero is adequate, when I last used it, it was still not as user friendly as quickbooks online. I reallo hope they can get it to that point as Intuit is really getting greedy
If Xero is not subscription, I’ll do it instead of QuickBooks. I’m not paying QuickBooks forcefully.
Same in india.
I’m quitting QuickBooks. Forcing me to pay monthly subscriptions, I’ll go elsewhere. Any alternative desktop check writing software?
No, if you find one let us know!
@@HectorGarciaCPA I’m looking into Accountedge Pro. One time desktop purchase with online/cloud based options
can i just buy an old version that doesnt require subscription?
Not anymore.
Hola, Hector.
Intuit is a crap company. They've essentially got a Monopoly on desktop accounting software and they're taking full advantage of it. I'm censuring myself because my full thoughts of them involve a lot of profanity.
Whats even more interesting, is that they really do not want their desktop market. They are focused on the Online product
@@HectorGarciaCPA oh I'm sure but what they don't seem to understand is that not everyone can rely on having an internet connection. I'm a mobile technician and some places I travel to don't have adequate cell coverage. So how am I supposed to generate an invoice on site for the customer? I also don't want all this data in the cloud. It doesn't need to be for most small businesses. I also can't stand the high price of the online version. It's not very affordable for start-ups.
Totally agree. Desktop software has always been bottom of the barrel, full of bugs, and maybe even intentionally so... trying to push users to online. I hope they go out of business and competitor comes in, or else they get bought out.
@@HectorGarciaCPA Why do they want to phase out the desktop users? What is the logic behind that? I love my QB Desktop and I feel like they are making it outrageously expensive to keep it and discourage us from using it.
@@pamelaq6185 they want a single

Everything is a subscription nowadays… ridiculous
Yeap.. the business model changed for everyone
If the only benefit of QBO or QB with a subscription is support, then it’s not worth it. The support is horrible. I am currently still using QBD 2014 Pro with no issues. QBD is fully paid for and I can set up more than one company versus a separate subscription for each company. Please remember, once you switch to QBO you can never go back.
You can hang on to that 2014 Pro until it doesn’t work anymore
I downloaded bank feed for credit card charges and see a list of them but how do we now get into the account?
Also the fee NOW is $800 !!!!!!
RIPOFF !!!!
What fee? You mean QuickBooks premier 2023 subscription?
Yeah $799😡
There will be tremendous pushback over the steep increases.
Possibly… the problem is the lack of a real competitor
qb will soon go out with these greedy changes🤣
Hope not
