The Craft Works Racing Wheels, AKA "CRW" CS series. CS stands for Carbon Spokes. I've been riding these for a few months now and the last time I rode something so paradigm-shifting was 3 and a half years go with a wheel that begin with "H".
I think there is no such thing as "the best wheel in the world" but there is "the best wheel for you and the road your riding today." I think these wheels could be that option for lots of people.
These wheels I really do think are the start of a "new generation" of carbon spoked wheels.
1st generation carbon spoked wheels - Lightweight, Mad Fiber, Spinergy, etc. These used non-replaceable carbon spokes.
2nd generation carbon spoked wheels - Popular from 2019-now. CADEX, HYPER, DRIVE, etc. Basically a steel spoked wheel with the spokes swapped for carbon spokes.
3rd generation carbon spoked wheels - Wheels that are built from the ground-up to take advantage of carbon spokes. The weight savings possible are crazy and the ride characteristics much more pleasant.
^ It's not a perfect categorising system, but it's like grouping games consoles or fighter jets.

what is up with PeakTorque post that these wheels have a major defect? qa issue or design flaw?
Hope you're still reading this... What I didn't get is my usual stability concern since I'm a really heavy bloke... What's the upper weight limit, since they are manufactured so cleverly: would they keep up with 130-140kg system weight?
This would be a perfect upgrade for my LIttle Tikes Big Wheeler. There is nobody anyone is going to smoke me at the playground traffic Light GP.
I saw you on the Magene T300 at Eurobike., The Hamsters got WATTS.
I would love to see lord Hambini reviewing this wheelset
Please review hambini
Im a bigger rider, 90kg. Love to have a set sent to Peak Torque to test them with stiffness and safety. Cool stuff.
God if these were rim brakes I would buy them in a heartbeat
Ditto. *Cries inside*
Yes, I would buy the rim brake version immediately, now I have to stick with tubs to get the weight down.
Good job Joe!! Amazing wheels😍😍
Great review. I will certainly consider these wheels for my next bike build.
Looking forward to the build!
Hell yea!!
Thanks for sharing, rim brake version needed.😁
Thank you for all the videos. Appreciate the information.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
These look bloody epic (logo colour something to be desired). Finally seeing the next gen of disc wheels at a weight that is appealing. Really excited to see how these wheels go as more get there hands on them. Fingers crossed you can have an input on the logo and colour choice. These have gone ahead of the Light Bicycle rims I had in the shopping basket for my next build.
I can’t wait to save up and buy these!!!!!
Thank you for a great video! In the 70s I raced on Hi-E superlight sewup wheels, sealed bearings and a nailed not welded seam, I just love tech and may save my lunch money for a set of these, though I'll have to buy a new frameset. I really miss riding light sewup wheels but i don't miss the maintenance!
Haha, better than sewing machine oil in the bearings :D
Really interesting wheels 👌
Everything is good except the logo. I think it will stop many people from buying these (including me). Please offer a no logo option or a better logo
We hear you. Hard to make everyone happy with the logo, but we're listening to feedback.
Personally, I am digging the logo, way better than winspace n elite
Nice looking set of wheels. Good to see China putting pressure on the big boys with higher end spec wheels, but the one of the issues I see is that when the price starts getting into the big boy brand category, in my opinion if comes down to the warranty. Roval has some decent wheels, expensive, but have their no fault warranty for like 2 years. And so does a few other brands above the $1.5k price range. These wheels will sell great just like the hypers. You sold me on those when they first came out 😀
Totally agree. As you saw in the graph I made, the reason the rapides are above that line is because you're paying for the warranty. (not Sagan's haircut, lol.)
naaa ... i recently got my 4550 PEAK ... they re are so awesome!
Have they fixed the QC issues with the front hub end caps and the threads for the centerlock disc brakes?
These wheels look amazing. They would look great on an all black seka exceed rdc. Maybe a certain website can get those up soon too
Trust me, I'm trying, haha! They're having production these days and can't even satisfy the Chinese market.
Lovely wheels!!! Any news if there will also be a Rim Brake version?
Sick wheels
Not buying very well made chines wheels these days is so silly !
Some people prefer to spend twice the price just to not be judged by their friends who rides mainstream brands !
I ride a Winspace T1500 with the 2023 D45 Hypers and i'm very proud of this !
Oh my! The 50/60 look good but could do with a wider rear internal width as 24mm at the front and 21mm rear is just a bit too far for me. Tyres are going to be totally different shapes and this might affect cornering. Other than that, fantastic. Well done on getting yourself set up with PandaPodium, I’ll definitely be buying something blingy soon 👍🏻
i watch every video about wheels, i love them, more than frames, never had a decent pair of them, and i probably never will so all i can do its watch videos about it :D
Haha, There are lots of non-bike products that I do the same thing. Watch hours of camera reviews for cameras I'll never buy...
@@ChinaCycling yeah but you got options ... plans
Be interested in a shallower option 32mm or less, no interest in twitchy. Happy to forgo the aero benefit 😁
I really wanna do a relative affordable weight weenie build with these wheels. Maybe a Winspace SLC frame. But chicago is so flat and I wont use the bike often lol
What about a budget Lab71 sorta build?
@@calebgonsalves2970 I like the way you think....
In 50/60 the front wheel external width is 34mm and the rear is 29mm. It is hard to understand. One may assume the front is optimised for a 32-34c tyre and the rear for a 28c tyre. But why? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Regardless, IMHO for an amature rider, non competitve riding, less than smooth roads 30-32-34c is better than 28c and the wheels are not optimised for that in terms of aerodynamic. General value: well you can get some nice DT Swiss hubs for the price from other Chinese wheel manufacturers. As customers, we are very lucky they still do DT Swiss as obviously noname "homebrand" hubs offer a lot bigger margin for the wheel manufacturers. Tubeless tape - regardless of how nicely it is attached it will eventually start peeling and leaking air. The only trouble-free option for tubeless is a no hole option. Hookless is a bit arguable so I will not go there. But it is nice to offer that option for those who want it.
I'd like to see a set of 45/50, that would be nice
Can't afford them, so I'll stick to my Hypers, but would definitely consider them after this review.
Waiting impatiently for Peak Torque's torsion force tests and Hambini's reaming! I hope he's gonna call them out on those ceramic bearings.
It wouldn't be a Hambini review without a good reaming!
Great! Could you please tell us the tech and reasons as to why the front wheel has a much wider external and internal width compared to the rear wheel? I'm confused because I read the specs of the CS5055 and the front wheel (which is supposedly the same size as the CS5060) does not have the same specs as the CS5060. What changes in the CS5060 that justifies such a big change? Thanks!
Damn this has completely left western brands in the dust. The quality looks incredible.
A good salesman Joe!
They need to do a logo option asap. The gold is a no go for me.
It would be great if they made a version with a higher weight limit. Maybe a version with extra spokes and a 250 pound weight limit??
Great video.
What type of bearings does it use? In Brazil is hard to get spare for any wheels. So standard cartridge bearings are easier to replace
Nervermind. Just saw the specs at 16:40
Imagine how much cheaper these wheels would be if there were a steel spoke option. If I raced then maybe I would need carbon spokes, but I'm just a cyclist who rides for the love of it and to keep myself in some kind of reasonable shape. Imagine the same gorgeous looks, but with regular, normal, even more easily replaced steel spokes at an even better price. But very compelling for those who can afford to splurge. And you never weighed the wheels on camera...
Thanks for sharing and hope this launch is successful!
There's a shot of the wheels on the scales in the video. CRW do make steel spoked wheels, but a bit different.
@@ChinaCycling good to know, thanks for sharing!
the CS5060 front tire has an inner width of 25mm and outter 34mm width. That is wide. You'll most likely need at least a 30c - 32c tire to match that rim. I want to see the aero number of this rim with the appropriately sized tire mounted on. I would be surprised if it is more aero than the Hyper 50.
Bought Hyper wheels last year for my Salsa Warroad and the bike came alive. Buying a 3T Strada now, can't wait to try these.
It often gets said, but still can't be stressed enough. Wheels can transform a bike.
@@ChinaCycling
Yes they do! Hey, I've just bought a 3T Strada, waiting for it to get assembled. What Hambini BB does it take. Using SRAM Force 12 speed.
Will these wheels be UCI certified? I cant wait to get a set if these r legally UCI certified for racing asap. Hope to hear from u soon.
Would those rims with internal 25mm width be any good on gravel?
Is there only through axle variant available? It would be great upgrade for my caad12, but in the rear there's quick release instead...
Really nice wheels. Would be top of my list if I was into disc brakes. Maybe if I get a disc frame again one day!
Yeah, everyone who watches my stuff knows at heart I'm a rim brake guy, but this is the first time I've seen an "advantage" of having disc brake wheels. (Super light rims.)
Hello, Lucas,
What about the warranty ?
And also with the customs fees for Belgium ?
Best regards
Alain
Hi, These wheels look great. I have been checking them out at Panda Podium. I am stuck with deciding which to go for though. I just purchased a Seka Exceed RDC and don't know if the CRW 5060 front is too wide for the Seka fork. Do you know of anyone using the 5060's or should I be safe and choose the 5055's?
Thanks and keep up the great videos. Love the Panda Podium site!
the only thing these wheels are missing is an UCI logo :)
I'd buy them in the second second. For racing purposes. The 50-55 fits perfectly, otherwise.
are these filament wound construction?
Any chance they bring out something like a 6065?
Dam you Joe . i was just about to pull the trigger on a pair of D67 wheels.... now you got me all conflicted. I think ill still get the hypers though . the CRW wheels are quite alot more than I can afford. but who knows maybe with a discount code i might have a re think .
Same. The width of the font is so good!
I think it comes down to the kind of riding you do and the importance of weight for you. Everyone who watches my stuff knows I love the feeling (and performance!) of a light bike / wheels. Any other questions, you can always ask over on our website. CZcams comments sometimes get hidden.
great review, strongly considering them for my next purchase but not with that color brand letters all the rest looks promising. A simple decal with branding will be perfect instead of something permanent!
Yeah, we're currently investigating different options. :)
I’m curious, Why the rear wheel internal with is narrower than of the front?
@ChinaCycling going on my gravel bike for sure
That will be one light bike.
maybe i have to buy a new bike just for these dyno hoops ... i don´t think i have ever seen you so fired up
It's a very cool feeling when you find a diamond in the rough and then see it grow and more and more people appreciating and using the product.
I'm really torn between these CRW CS5055 set and a set of Elite-Wheels, of 50mm. The Elite are a bit more heavy (just a bit), but maybe safer (UCI sticker, more spokes), more reviews and you receive some spokes as spares.
These CRW are better tuned (50mm front, but 55 mm rear - and I like this design, with the rear wheel deeper), lighter, but reviews are lacking for the moment - except for yours.
I'd love to see a comparative test between these two.
Otherwise, similar prices.
What about import taxes? I live in the European Union, and Elite Wheels have a nice policy for that.
I have both sets... lots of reviews and comparisons coming soon.
When are you sending a pair to peak torque for a review? Or Hambini!
Hey Joe
I’m thinking of buying a set of these off u. I’ve never bought a Chinese branded product so this would b a first. My question is I’m having a custom built Battaglin gravel frameset made (spectacularly gorgeous) 😍😍😍 but being steel it weighs in at almost 2KG wtf 😳 😱 So I’m desperate to try and save some rotational weight to offset the chunky boy frame. What do u think about these for the Battaglin based on what I’m trying to achieve? The frameset is $5000 euros 😩 so I don’t have thousands and thousands to spend on a super lightweight wheelset.
Love ur channel btw
Cheers
J🇨🇦
These look really good. However, are there rider/system weight limits?
100kg!
Very interested but why is the warranty so short on these?
Surely a hambini and peak torque review is needed. Hopefully the logo gets replaced aswell
Logos you're never gonna make everyone happy. As for my two musketeers, we shall see. ;) ;)
Ive been riding Chinese wheels since 2014~ and have gone through at least 5 in total. I have a 6 yr old Yoeleo on my other bike that are bomb-proof although it's eating more brake pads these days
As with anything I buy from China and with these having proprietary stuff, how or where will the warranty be processed? How long are they going to cover us for? Crash replacement?
Thanks Stephen
Hey Stephen! My first Chinese wheel review on the channel was Yoeleo, so it seems we have similar history. Haha. There's a 2yr warranty and if you have any crash-related issues, etc, we'll asses the damage and give you the most economical solution to get you back on the road. Bearings are off the shelf sizes, and obviously they're the thing that needs maintenance.
Any RIM versions? Pretty please
In CS5060 wouldn't there be a bigger aero and comfort benefit if the rear rim was wider too? Especially given that some people, incl. me and Peak Torque, ride a wider tyre in the back. Also, why so shiny?:(
Would love to see if you could get your hands on the THRindustries RX hubs which are apparently the lightest pair of disc hubs in the world. Maybe also take a look at the associating wheels that were released together with those hubs by 0011 Cycles.
I though the Tactic Racing were the lightest. I have a pair of those on the way. Can't keep up these days. The 0011 ones also look good, but I heard some stability issues with cracking hubs and stuff... we shall see!
Definitely has the salesman tone of voice down pat. Less of the biging yourself up would make it an easier listen 😊
I owned a set of Winspace Hyper 50 with carbon spokes they had loads of issues with spokes falling out. I have gone back to a reputable brand and ride Mavic sl45 with stainless spokes now, they are a bit heavier but never give any problems, after my Winspace experience I wouldn't buy carbon spoked wheels again.
My experience with Hyper D45's is the exact opposite of yours. 4500 miles and not a single issue.
Won't the carbon spokes compromise comfort vs steel?
I wonder if the 40 45 front wheel is less twitchy
Hi Joe
The 60/50 wheelset you mentioned the internal size on the front wheel but I didn’t hear the internal width of the rear wheel …?
The rear wheel is thinner and narrower (as the trend) 21mm internal if memory serves. Details on the website.
Hi Joe, any experience/reviews of the XC30 model?! Looking to buy, thanks!!
I don't do much MTB stuff. What I heard is if you know what you're doing they're a great XC wheelset. Just don't treat them like a DH wheelset or go whacking them off any rocks too hard with too low tire pressure, etc, etc.
Wheels look great they are very light but when i look at the pro bikes you aren't seeing Mega light carbon spokes.
INEOS were using lightweight wheels for a few stages of the tour de france a few years ago, right? Paid for apparently. All other teams / times, the sponsorship money (~$500,000/year for a wheel brand) can buy you more speed, because you can buy a lot of good riders for 500k. However, for us personal riders, we can't all buy a lead-out man to ride in front of us every day. Hahaha.
So no 12 speed Shimano microspline freehub option?
Why such a long non aero spoke section near the rim? that's a bit of a shame.
Hey, I've order the 5055. What size tyre would you recommend for this wheelset? Any recommendations on tyre brand/ model? Cheers!
I like 28s. I think Continental GP5000 STR or Schwalbe Pro One would both be good choices.
Any rim brake wheel set?
Ooh
I would replace my Hyper D67’s tomorrow if they did a similar size deep section with a nice weight saving say 200/250grams.
Have they any plans for deeper Joe?
My lips are sealed. But I know you're OG Stephen, haha.
@@ChinaCycling hqhahha
@@ChinaCycling😁. Purchaser of 1st every generation hypers after watching your Vids Joe! Also two of my 3 bikes are Winspace including wheels.
Fantastic insight into Chinese products with your channel mate gives me confidence to buy the fantastic quality competitively and fantastically priced products. Even thinking of replacing my SL7 with a Trigon AR01 but they don’t reply to my emails ☹️. Anyway cannot wait for your lips to become unsealed 😂 as you will make my bike and wallet lighter 😂
@@ChinaCycling I agree with @stephenanderson7070. I am also in the market for a deep-section wheelset. Top of my list right now is the Hyper D67 and Drive 65D. I love the tech on the Craft wheels and the gloss finish is superb. Would love to see a 65/60 type set with a grey logo decal option... and please ask them to include extra spokes. I would honestly order them right now. I'm hoping they release something soon. 😄Great video and keep up the good work.
That's a super low spoke count for disc brake wheels, hence the low weight. Wheel technology had definitely improved.
Aluminum vs carbon, in a crash lets see which one is actually the better technology.
Hey Joe, building up a cargo bike to carry the kids and looking for 26” rear 20” front quality carbon disc brake wheels - any suggestions on where to look? All my google searches just bring up low end bmx wheels. Any thoughts would be much appreciated
Talk to someone who does custom wheels builds like wheelsfar (Farsports subdivision) and they should be able to get you sorted...
@20:17 ... I didn;t know the Aussie icon Stackhat had made a comeback!
Hahha, I had to go google that. Love it.
sold mate - just need to sell some Winspace stuff to make way!
Out with the old, in with the new.
That pink Kuota in the vid is amazing :)
Hahahaa, I really like the paint job, but Tom (the owner) isn't a fan. Hahaha.
My main concern is just the crosswinds.. with those deep 50 wheels.. seems almost too much depth especially with how light they are.
Got de D67 hypers and live in a windy area with alot of hills. i must say i have no probs with 4-5 bf
Are you sending Hambini and Peak torque a pair for review
Maaaaaaaybe. ;)
The logo is not too bad but I would prefer a black logo that has a blend / low contrast effect.
I wish there was rim brake version
Hi, has there been any aero performance testing on these in the wind tunnel, drag etc? Thank you
Not yet. But with low spoke count and a buttery transition from rim to tire, they won't be slow.
Ok thank you, how do you find them in side winds? I ride the rovals 50/58 but was thinking of picking these up to make a light aero build
Agreed with the rim profile looks very promising, as aero wheelset if these match up well against something like the cadex ultra 50’s etc I’m sold. It would be great to see a wind tunnel testing vid against similar wheelsets. Being lightweight is awesome but from what I’ve heard the ‘lightweights’ aren’t particularly aero, if these are it be a massive selling point to people like myself.
Last question do they run fine with 12 seed? Clearance etc.
What CRW wheel version for a 40-width tire size? For gravel riding 😎
Panda Podium Dot CC baby!
Joe,
Best no-BS cycling product pitch I have ever seen! Thank you for your hard work. Can’t afford them. But If I could….
Ed
Seattle
is the Rim brake version available?
Disc only, but would RB calipers even be able to fit 34mm external width?
Ok, first, awesome work, these wheels are amazing. Second these wheels are still an unknown brand from China. This means they should have a price tag to match. Lun Hypers are USD$1200, these are USD$1680. If it was my money and I'm buying Chinese, I want value. I choose the Lun's. The whole point of the Chinese 'movement' is value. USD$1680 is still a lot cheaper than Zipp's but yeah, you know what I'm saying. Anyway keep up the awesome work 👍
Again, look at the graph I put in there. The distance below that line indicates "value" - these wheels are further from the line than the Luns. People confuse "Value" with "Cheap". They're not the same. [I'm not arguing with you... I do appreciate your comment, in 2019 HYPER were the most expensive Chinese wheels and people were saying the same thing. People were used to Chinese wheels being 700-800 dollar wheels]
@@ChinaCyclingWell said. Value != cheap. Also, artisanal (from “unknown brand”) product doesn’t mean they must demand a lower price tag. Usually, it’s more well-made because the relatively low demand means they can assign their best craftsmen to build the wheels. Higher demand inevitably dilute the overall quality because highly skilled craftsmen are inherently in limited supply.
Fantastic wheels. Shame I'm using rim brakes.😭
What if I want maximum aero with the narrower 50 mm front wheel of the 5055 and the deeper rear wheel of the 5060?
In theory it's do-able... talk to our staff. :)
@@ChinaCycling not looking to buy at the moment, but will definitely keep it in mind for the future, thanks!
What's the max system load for those wheels?
100kg / 220lbs
It’s very Aero matching the silca blog of 105 rule. These are very interesting.
My concerns are
1. In reading your website, you state you’re middle men, the reason we buy EU to US brands at high prices not too dissimilar to yours is for the Warranty Claims are mostly upheld well
2. What’s the warranty on these wheels?! Your site didn’t state it at all
3. If something goes wrong, you do write it requires to be sent back - from EU or US this can be expensive
Hey! Appreciate your concerns, let me help you address them. 1) We're a single middle man between consumer and the guy building your wheels. Usually there are multiple levels of middle men.Having one middle man to take care of the language / culture barrier is definitely not a bad thing. 2) Two-year warranty. Will update the website to make this more apparent. 3) It depends what goes wrong. Most cases will be a replacement part being sent to the customer.
@@ChinaCycling Thanks for the clarification! If there's an issue with the wheels, would you have a rough estimate on how long parts will take to arrive?
I went on to their website and noticed that CRW wheels are not Sram compatible. Is this true ?
They work with SRAM, no problem. XDR freehub body is available.
I'm so glad to see disc-only wheels starting to use custom molds so that they're not bound by the need to incorporate a rim-brake track. So excited to see new designs like a 34mm external width at this weight! My only criticism of this video would is that the graph at the end is skewed simply because of the inclusion of the Lightweight brand. Due to the $8500 price point, it seems like it throws off the trend line. I'd like to see the graph without those two data points, but maybe include price points from more common brands like Zipp, Bontrager, ENVE, and especially DT Swiss.
Good point! The points in that graph are the wheels I have in the office for testing (or on the way to the office) so most of them are real-world weights and thats how I ended up with that selection.
Any plans for Mt bike wheels?
There are some, still being perfected. They don't rush development. A few great products is better than a lot of mediocre ones.
Not to be a party pooper. But you can get even lighter disc brake wheels (without carbon spokes) from Italy. Made from a company that make carbon fiber parts for Ferrari.
Anyone in the uk ordered these or know whether there will be import fees and if so how much.
You can ask our sales team over on the site. We use the same logistics as 2 of the other big Xiamen wheel brands though and all their wheels get to the UK fine from what I see on forums. Again, our sales team have more info than me.
Shame there not.doing rim 😢
Always remember.....
Any discount coupon available pleaseee ? Im ready to spent my monehh
No discount codes. Part of the Panda Podium philosophy is trying to "simplify" the process of buying stuff from Asia and making it more "What you see is what you get." No shipping fees, no discount codes, etc. When brands that have discount codes fix their prices, they fix their prices knowing you'll use a discount code. It's just a marketing trick to make you feel special. I dunno... I spend lots of time thinking about stuff like this. I want to "reward" my viewers / subscribers, but don't want to alienate everyone else. How about free gifts to everyone who says "Joe sent me" in the order comments section?
I'm sure I missed this but are these wheels hooked or hookless?
Hookless so far tubeless too
The specs on pandas website show that they are hooked.
They are hooked for tubeless or clincher. Sorry, it wasn't 100% obvious in the video.
There is no such bike as a “SERK” Joe. It’s an OEM frame that Shannon buys from a certain factory, then puts stickers on. He then puts SERK charges a 3-4 times mark-up. I can say this because it’s true.
I feel the need to reply, as I know Shannon and the passion he puts into the brand. The design of the SERK bikes is unique You won't find the same bike anywhere. It's designed by him and another European designer. They don't own the factory, but neither does Specialized own "their factory" either. The only part of the frame that you'll see the same as another bike is the BB shell and the dropouts. 😂
whats the warranty of these wheels?
Two-year warranty!
ahhh i thought it gonna be the WinSpace ... MEGA
They're almost 200g heavier. Video on those coming soon.
Can we get these in the philippines? Is paypal ur only payment? Gcash?
At the moment only PayPal, but we wanna add Gcash too!
