I created the Iceberg, Bro. I destroyed WCW
Been a wrestling fan and lifelong WCW fanatic since January 1, 1996 when I was 9 years old. I couldn't find anything good to watch, but "WCW Monday Nitro" sounded cool from the TV Guide. I had never heard of WCW before, but knew about the WWF.
It comes on, and I'm like "Oh shit!! This is wrestling? Whatever. I'll tune in.".
Couple weeks later I was officially hooked, and I still live, breathe, and BLEED for WCW, and I was 100% loyal until the end. March 26, 2001 was a very dark day of my life.
WCW FOR LIFE!!!!
Edit: I have always viewed myself as a scholar of WCW, and knowing everything about its history, but with the exception of Hard body Harrison, the Tier 1 stuff is the first I have ever heard of those things.

WCW had a booking committee when Goldberg was beaten. Nash was on it (along with DDP & Kevin Sullivan) but he wasn’t THE Booker. Eric had final say in Nash winning, and Sullivan himself admitted on his podcast that Nash was just the fall guy to take the heat (Hogan made the call because he wanted the belt back).
Someone else should have defeated Goldberg. Someone who would have benefited from defeating Goldberg
The issue wasn’t Nash beating the streak, he was arguably as over as Goldberg at the time. The downfall began with the finger poke of doom and the nWo reforming straight after and the whole WCW falling back a year or two in story telling. They knew their own downfall straight away and killed the nWo angle but the damage was done and too many people changed the channel by March.
Kevin Nash defeating Goldberg is one of the most memorable moments from my childhood, the finger poke of doom was shocking.
@@TehBuzz WCW was still doing comparable numbers after the FPOD. And they killed the nWo angle because Luger & Hall got injured, Flair wanted to be heel, and Hogan pushed to be babyface so he didn’t have to job to Goldberg again…which effectively made 3 months of storyline pointless and told people they were stupid for having watched it. That’s what put the nails in the coffin.

I feel like we can forgive David for what happened. yeah, it was stupid at the time, but I feel like he's proved himself as not just some hollywood actor trying to piggyback off of wrestling by now. He's done matches on the indies for a number of years, even hardcore matches.

Good video, but you never mentioned Cowboy Bill Watts rules, making moves involving the top rope moves a DQ and removing the safety mats was one of the dumbest decisions in wrestling history especially when they had Pilman and Jushin Liger in the company doing revolutionary stuff

i disagree about Nash taking the title off Goldberg. Maybe how it was done could have been better, but i was there, it was time for him to lose the belt..
The very first fact of this iceberg is known to be a false rumor. Nash and even Eric both said it wasn’t purely Nash’s decision. People act like Nash had unchecked creative control, but really nothing he did was without approval, and EVERYTHING he did was because he thought it was good for the business.
For the record, the "Eric Bischoff spills coffee on Eddie Guerrero" incident was debunked by Eddie himself in his book. The true story is that Eric accidently knocked over his coffee during their argument and some of it spilled onto Eddie.

Quite funny concidences on the haku part cause it sounds like barbarian and jimmy snuka who were also samoan or tongan I forgot were almost impossible to detain by police as well, it must be genetics or something.

Using the WCW logo created by WWE after the company died is pretty mean.
If the count would have been fast in that Sting Hogan Match, it actually would have been a cool finish. Also, benoit didn't get booked in squash matches, they just booked him so he couldn't win any titles.
So instead of letting the berlyn gimmick disappear and give Alex right a whole new gimmick they just said F*** it?

There have been conflicting stories about whether Nash was a booker at the time of the Goldberg loss. Is there any solid evidence of this? I'm just curious

I've heard Nash say that, the whole reason Bill was beat at Starcade 1998 is because he was getting boos from the crowd, like Hogan was getting in WCW in the mid 90s, I'm guessing WCW thought the fans were tired of seeing Berg win all the time? Also, Nash claims that the plan was to put the title back on Hogan, put the nWo back together so Berg could have an entire heel stable to run through on his way back to Hogan, that's me pretty much quoting Nash there, so if it seems silly, blame him not me. I don't think it was a bad planned, just to scripted, you never know what another day may bring and the fans are often at times fickle, same way they turned on Reigns when he was hot for a while and WWE started to book him so strongly...and that's just one example.
Injuries didn’t help. Everyone important to the angle ended up hurt.

The kick didn’t end Bret career Bret ended his own career he was concussed before he even faced Goldberg

that isnt true, like, at all. He was fine before the Goldberg match, but he did take a bonk to the head before the kick, when Goldberg failed to catch Bret when he was doing the 'figure four on the ring post' move he did.
I think the most shameful part about wcw's final months is that they never bothered putting the title on sting or Goldberg in hopes of increasing ratings.. instead they played hot potato with various midcard level wrestlers.. except Booker T who actually was the correct booking decision.

Good video, but a lot of inaccuracies and even more things that are at the very best contested by other people who were involved. Just off the top of my head DX didnt ride a tank to nitro it was a jeep with a big gun on it, the british bulldog was a drug addict way before that bump on the trap door, kevin nash was only on the booking committee when he beat Goldberg, WWF had first shoot at buying WCW because of a lawsuit they filled when Hall and Nash first started showed up on Nitro, part of the settlement was WWF would have the right to buy WCW if they ever put it up for sale before anyone else, and Eric Bischoff says that him and Brian Pillman were both under agreement that Pillman would go to WWF to make a bigger name for himself and then come back to WCW later. Honestly, everyone involved in everything from this time frame has a different story about just about everything, so it's hard to nail down the actual truth when it comes to a lot of things during this time.
