The addiction rate for professionals including airline pilots, lawyers, nurses, doctors, yada yada is the SAME as the general public. 10%. An education doesn’t preclude anyone from addiction. Human are humans.

Bruce is so right about crossing the line. I'm an addict in recovery, & as my addiction grew worse, things became acceptable to me that never were before.. And as I did those things, they opened up NEW things that I gradually found acceptable, until eventually I was completely alone, & I had absolutely nothing... but the needle.

And this is what I tell people in recovery... If you're thinking of going back out (stinkin thinkin), remember to fast forward to the very last day before you came to recovery where you were down on the ground with nothing left, or in the back of a police car, or getting Narcanned by the EMTs!!! Hold that memory and feel it, then get yourself to a meeting or call your sponsor if you have one. We're all here for your recovery!! All the best to you!!!

I work at a luxury resort on the East Coast, and in 3 years the craziest guest by far was a plastic surgeon. He came with an entourage and claimed that he burned his hand on an iron, which he claimed was the hotel's fault. He went into our gift shop demanding one of the most expensive shirts we had (Paul and Shark) because he ruined his own shirt with our iron.
He said that he may never be able to practice plastic surgery again because our iron burned his hand.
He completely lost his mind and was told not to come back.
I read reviews from his clients and they all said he was very professional and good at his job. Which surprised me.

This is another one of those professions that is closely looked into, examined, as well a respected. I stand by his honor, and his standing in the community. I just can't see the old boy doing something so stupid concerning drugs in his car. His Mantra was always, "You have your reputation, and without that, you have Nothing". I used to go to church with a lawyer. He had a side business selling fake PhDs through the mail so his first felony conviction was for mail fraud. He gets out, returns to working as a lawyer, and gets caught embezzling large sums of money from his elderly clients so he gets his second felony conviction for that. At his sentencing, the federal judge even told him that he would be back as he hadn't learned his lesson yet. His license was suspended. After he gets out, he gets caught again for mail fraud as he had a scam business on the side selling personalized pens and pencils while working as a paralegal. This time, he gets sentenced as a habitual offender so he did hard time. He also had been calling himself Doctor as he bought one of his own fake PhDs. No drugs were involved. He was just stupid, lazy and greedy.

People believe they’re smart enough to get away with doing bad things and a lot are lucky enough to not get caught but eventually that luck drops to zero and that’s it. just watched a documentary about Christopher Duntsch, a Texas neurosurgeon was accused of injuring 33 out of 38 patients in less than two years before his license was revoked by the Texas Medical Board. In 2017, he was convicted of maiming one of his patients and sentenced to life imprisonment. During the documentary, friends (some of which were in the medical field also I believe) said he was doing LSD and other drugs, staying up all night, then going into surgery. It took two other surgeons an enormous amount of effort to get him reported.... and they testified at his trial also. One of Duntsch former roommates from college went to him for surgery,.... the guy left surgery as a permanent paraplegic in a wheelchair.

Sadly there are so so SO many instances of plastic surgeons botching surgeries and maiming patients or patients being lost on the table. And hardly anything happens to them compared to a surgeon in a hospital. When you work from your own clinic vs a major hospital you have a lot more leeway which is ridiculous.

I worked in a law firm that had a really niche area: representing hospitals who had suspended MDs based on reports to the 24/7 confidential hotline. He was a plastic surgeon who enjoyed cocaine and operating on a patient. He appealed his suspension. No go. Finally, he was able to seek reinstatement to practice. We advised the hospital that the surgeon should be randomly tested for cocaine and other substances. He was outraged. Several years later, I heard that he had checked into rehab and was doing well with his sobriety attending support groups and continuing to be randomly tested. He had a God complex, that wasn’t quite as prevalent when sober. He was very lucking he did seriously injure of kill a patient.

You're right. Great words at the end. I'm broke AF. My life options are pretty small and it seems hardly worth the effort I put in each day. It is very tempting to cut corners and stray outside the lines like many do. It's easy to dismiss how one mistake or error in judgement can destroy everything almost instantly. Build and never forget what can happen when you stop. Thank you

I absolutely agree with professionals sometimes being the worst. I had experience with attorneys and some debate every rule they don't want to follow at the moment. And when they then mess up they blame their assistant to avoid bad reviews or liability. And then they wonder why people don't want to assist them anymore...And no, they don't think it's them...
The worst about all professionals: they ALWAYS back each other up, even when they know they shouldn't. There are things outsiders don't understand and when you must defend each other, but sometimes you also need to clear your stables to save your reputation. I would not want to be associated with that swamp of a doctor, e.g.

This Dr has a long history of meth, misconduct, and police called to his home for various disturbances. Yet, his physician's license has never been compromised. He recently stated he's retiring end of this year.

    • @BlueSparkshine
      @BlueSparkshine Před 6 měsíci +15

It's nearly impossible for a physician to lose their license in most states. The conduct has to be outrageous and already known to the public at large where the board is scared for how it will reflect upon the profession, they don't actually care about the harm the impaired physician caused or will cause to patients individually

Funnily enough about the drunk doctor thing, my mum was a nurse for 30 or so years, and in the 2000’s she was working with a consultant who specialised in the heart. He was a known alcoholic, would carry a flask around with him, but she said he was so skilled and knew so much about the heart that if you die under his care, no-one could save you.

A couple things bug me about this stop. It feels like they waited for him to drive somewhere so they could stop him and search his car without a warrant.
Secondly they offered to let someone from his office take the car instead of being towed. Why is a custodial inventory allowed when they aren't taking the car into custody?

Addiction changes you. Nothing matters once you get deep into it, but getting the next high, whether it be drugs, gambling, sex, or whatever your addiction is. It changes you, changes your life. Once you fall into it, the old you is long gone, and you will never find that person again. The joy, the innocents, the love for life is all gone.

I would be willing to take a long vacation from work to sue a hospital up, down, left, right, and center if I found out my surgeon was high during my surgery. Hell even if the anesthesiologist took a hit after putting me under I would be googling lawyers the moment I found out
