  • This is Callie & Chris’s love story, as told by them:
"Often we say how we met is like a modern Cinderella story if you replace a grand palace ball with a dingy and crowded bar, a fairy godmother with a drunk/lost Tinkerbell and a glass slipper with a BBM pin. Gather round and come in close as Callie weaves you the tale of how we first met and started dating.
And so our tale finds us on a dark and spooky Halloween night at a bar in Thorold called "Moose and Goose.” Anyone who has gone drinking with Kendra and me knows we tend to wander once we've had a few drinks, which also means we spend the whole night trying to find each other as well. At one point during my search, I went up to the bar to get a drink and noticed another curly red-headed guy a few people down from me. Turns out it was a fellow classmate from elementary school! We, of course, exclaimed our surprise at finding the other in the bar, let alone going to school in the same town. Cale was dressed as Shaun White, and he stepped aside to introduce his roommate, who was none other than Chris. I looked him up and down and remarked on his lack of costume. He insisted he was dressed up as Shaun White's bodyguard, and I insisted that was utter bullshit, we started laughing, and so I sat and chatted with them for a bit before I decided my search must continue for my drunken Tinkerbell. I said my goodbyes and plunged back into the crowd. As Kendra and I tried to coordinate through text messages to find each other, I would continue to run into Cale and Chris on my quest to find Kendra. At one point, I enlisted Chris' help to find her. I showed him a picture of her and exchanged BBM pins with him in case he found her without me. He insisted he would come to help me look, and while you wouldn't think a 5'10" girl dressed all in green would be hard to find, she managed to elude us all night (mind you, we weren't looking that hard for her, too wrapped up in our own conversation). Eventually, we grabbed another round of drinks courtesy of Chris, and he had to use the washroom but would be right back. Not 5 minutes after Chris had left, Kendra appeared out of the dark and exclaimed she got us a speedy cab to share, but we had to go right away. Not having enough money on my own to get home, I polished off my drink and raced after her into the night, leaving Chris behind and, I'm sure, a bit bewildered. You would think the story would end there with me just ghosting Chris as soon as he had bought me a drink and with no further messages between us for months. However, as you well know, our tale continues.
Early in our dating, Chris picked me up in Holland Landing and swept me off to London for the wedding. We went to the ceremony site, and I was dressed, but he wasn't. He unceremoniously dumped me in a group of his family and rushed off to get dressed, failing to introduce me or offer any explanation of whether I was classified as a friend or girlfriend or a hitchhiker he had picked up on the way. Having no clue to go on and not wanting to stick my foot in my mouth and scare him off, I sat awkwardly in his group of family, not daring to draw any attention to myself. The wedding was good fun, and the next morning he drove me back to Holland Landing; it was the day before I would leave for my 6-month exchange in Australia. I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet, so I asked him to go for a walk around the neighbourhood with me. Our legs carried us to Park Ave, my old school, and I knew I loved him as we sat on the playground in the summer heat. I was terrified to say anything, as who would want to date someone who is about to flee to the other side of the world for six months, but I knew if I came back and he had moved on, I would kick myself for not going out on a limb. I sucked up the courage and practically blurted out that I thought I loved him, I think my face must have turned about 6 shades of red, and my heart hammered to see if I had screwed it up and said it too early. Chris simply smiled and said that he loved me too.
And the rest is, as they say, history. I flew off to Australia; we spent six months communicating over Facebook at opposite times of the day. When I came back, he surprised me with a bouquet of bacon roses, and we picked things back up as if I had never left. Fast forward nearly 10 years later, and here we are, standing on the precipice of saying "I Do" with all of you to join us, and we could not be more thrilled."
