  • I like this harmonica because it is unique. Unlike most common chromatic harmonicas it has no slider to change the tone from major to flat or sharp. The notes are arranged in piano-like fashion, with the major notes played on the lower level of the mouthpiece and the sharps and flats played on the upper level. It takes a little patience to remember when to tilt the harmonica and when not to. And that is the challenge for me and the enjoyment.

Phew! A tricky number to play. I have just bought a Swan Bass which also has upper and lower rows but is all blow notes and requires a good pair of lungs! Thanks for putting this up and your very clear explanation.

Hi Lucas Kristian, not really hard for beginners or non experts. Start with songs that are all major notes, no sharps or flats and play on the lower row of holes. Once you get used to the pattern of notes, you move to songs with flats or sharps and the trick is simply to twist the back upward so you can play on the upper row which contains the sharps and flats. Have a nice day playing.

You go to the next hole, which is a draw to play D4, then third hole to play E4, which is a blow, then go to hole #4 to play F4, which is a draw, then hole #5 to play G4, which is blow, then hole #6 to play A4, which is a draw, then go to hole 7 to play B4, which is draw, then go to hole #8 to play C5, which is a blow, then go to hole #9 to play D5, which is a draw, hole #10 to play E5, which is a blow, and so forth and so on. .

The two tombo models - S50 and the Unica Formal have the same notes pattern and played just like an Hohner chromatic like the 270. Blow notes are C,E and G while draw notes are D,F,A and B, same goes to the chromatic notes (use sharps name instead of flats). The only difference is each hole plays only a single note, unlike in 270 where a hole has both a blow and a draw.

Notice that the C is not repeated in the scale as in Hohner 270, but just like the piano, it goes on to do next scale

Yes, there is only one note in each hole and it could only be a blow or a draw, but not both like in Hohner 270. Imagine the piano, starting with middle C (or C4 in harmonica), this is the first hole in Tombo S50 lower layer. This is a blow note, you cannot play draw here because this is a blow hole, remember that there is only one reed in each hole, so only one note.

Hello :D Do the two reedplates protrude forward a little from the mouthpiece? I have that on my Yamaha SS-220. By the way, good playing :D

Thanks for your reply, but it still doesnt make sense to me yiu are saying that blow notes are CEG and drew notes rest are draw notes, so blow and draw are different notes then for each hole? Can you kindly make another vedio explaining how this exactly works.I am thinking of buying one for my self but want to be sure if these are what I want. I will appreciate your further help.
