    Just for future reference, it would have been nice to cut to footage of the actual vehicle when the interviewee was speaking about the various components (i.e., show the suspension when they are talking about suspension, cut to footage of the vents when discussing vents, etc...). This simple technique would make for a much more dynamic and enjoyable viewing experience. Regardless, the interviews themselves were very nice. Thanks for posting!

    yea i agree. im a vw owner, and i can tell you, the parts them self are high quality (suspension, materials, chassis, engine, plastics,,,) but the electronics are usually the biggest culprit with the newer vw's. its all fine while you have the warranty, but without it, get ready to pay up. luckily, i do my own work on the car, and its quite simple to work on, once you get a few special tools , hehe. aftermarket parts are veryyy nice tho, but realllyy expensive.

    The leaf works awesome on the race track. You don't understand its primary purpose which is anti roll. The only advantage coils have for racing is they are easier to change, adjust, and you can buy all kinds of springs rates. But for cornering ability and lap times for a given spring rate, the leaf is superior due to its making the car lighter, have a lower center of gravity, and lower unsprung weight. GM puts coilovers on the Aveo. They put the expensive leafs on the Corvette for a reason.

  • @n8dh
    @n8dh Před 11 lety

    pretty fair question..... @adamtank2000 actually those cars are EXTREMELY well-matched. they are within 2 HP (Viper - 640, Corvette - 638), 1 pound (Viper - 3354, Corvette - 3,353) and 4 lb-ft (Viper - 600, Corvette - 604). Pretty much the only difference is the accessiblity of the performance - the viper is very hard to drive fast, but the Corvette is easier for an average driver to drive pretty fast.

    The Corvette composite leaf spring is not a torsion spring. It does not twist. It bends.

  • @TwistedMetal2011
    @TwistedMetal2011 Před 11 lety

    The transverse leaf spring has actually hurt European sales a bit in the past. In Europe, a transverse leaf spring set up is considered an ancient technology and unsophisticated. I understand that GM stayed with this set up to save weight and to save room for a trunk and better engine bay space. I wonder how well they'll work for the C7's handling.

  • @studio-flash
    @studio-flash Před 11 lety

    Corvette the worlds best sports car...enough said!!!!

  • @danelio
    @danelio Před 11 lety

    the leaf spring works ok, on the street. not so much on the track. the handling capabilities are just higher with a good coilover suspension. i've read several interesting articles on this leaf vs coil subject , there was a good one in the corvette magazine a few years ago. all of them say the same thing. the leaf springs only advantages are lightweight, load capacity and taking up less space, but coils are more performance suited and will make the car handle much better. facts are facts.

    I feel kind of bad for Goodyear. I've driving or been in cars, driven with at least gusto, that used Eagle GTs, "Gatorbacks", Eagle GS-C, Eagle F1, and Eagle Supercar G2 and those tires all were awesome.
    But at least Chevy and Ford use Supercar G2s on their upper tier Camaro and Mustang respectively.

  • @evansaut1
    @evansaut1 Před 11 lety

    Coilovers offer the advantage of cheaply choosing alternate spring rates and they are easier to change swap. The coil has no other inherent advantage over a composite leaf spring.

    Actually, in this regard, the rest of the industry caught up to Chevy. Delphi invented the magnetorheological damper, for automotive applications, while they were owned by GM. The 2002 Cadillac STS was the first production car to offer it, and the Corvette followed the next year. So, um, you're wrong. Nice try though!

    I've been reading your magazine since i could walk. One of your best comparison tests featured the Vette and it took the one featuring the Viper for you to NOT gripe about the interior. Now that it has a decent(its own)steering wheel that isn't found in every other GM car, will you stop complaining? The Porsche's interior is nothing special either since it's also used in the Boxster/Cayman and the Cayenne.

  • @danelio

    hehe, chevy is actually catching up to the rest of the industry with magnetic suspension. its been around quite a bit. its not new ,or that innovative. so chevy is actually raising their bar to be on the same level as other "actually innovative" manufacturers. seems they're on a good track tho.

    I agree with some of your argument, German cars might not be as reliable but because they usually have much more technology in them, mechanically they are good but its the tech and electronics that cause problems most of the time. I can bet if the corvette had as much tech in the car it would be more unreliable then the Germans. a friend of mine is a manager in a company where they make parts for American and Euro cars. the parts for German cars are much higher quality & more expensive.
