How to make horsepower on pump fuel | fullBOOST

  • Horsepower levels that were once thought out of reach for street based naturally aspirated engines are now becoming reality thanks to Australian companies like Higgins Race Heads. Ongoing research and development has resulted in a proven 900 plus horsepower small block Ford capable cylinder head and intake manifold
    solution.
    Now it’s one thing to achieve this on race fuel but this combination is making the numbers on regular pump 98-ron unleaded petrol.
    This 461-cubic inch street Windsor V8 was purposely built for these Australian manufactured Cleveland style heads by Melbourne speed shop Dandy Engines. It features a 13:1 compression ratio using forged Diamond pistons and Oliver connecting rods. With input from Gale Powley of GP Technologies, Higgins Race Heads offer both the head and intake CNC ported components straight out of the box, flowing well over 400cfm. It’s important to note that this is not a bespoke race cylinder head, but an off the shelf complete ready induction package for pump fuel street cars.

      Al Mierz That wasn’t with the 351C. That was later on when using a 499 inch BBF Wedge. By then, most racers were using juice. The “Dodge” boys, Alderman and Geoffrion were the ones that won a bunch of races on juice, hence their shop getting “broken into” and “vandalized.” Heck, Alderman had two nitrous backfires on the starting line, which really made people start to wonder. When Glidden went to the 429 in 1982, his sons weren’t old enough to race with him professionally yet. So yeah, he spanked ass with the 351C without using juice.

      Brand loyalty is total ignorance. Engines are just air pumps. They are all doing the same thing. And if you throw money at them regardless of the manufacturer you can make more power. Weak points can be replaced. Restrictions can be removed. The Cleveland engine is interesting in particular. Big block Chevy styled heads with canted valves that sit on top of a small block. There actually wasn't a small block head by any oem manufacturer that could stand up to the Cleveland head's flow until 1997 when GM debuted the LS1. They we're matched with the boss 302 block in 69 and 70 for trans am racing. And in 1970 the Ford boss 302 mustang won the trans am racing championship.

    • @brockmaine2743
      @brockmaine2743 Před 5 lety

      @@Firion13 well to be clear ... in my opinion there's nothing wrong with being loyal to one brand and what not. The problem I have is when people are assholes about it and hate on other brands simply because it's not what they would buy or own, I'm a chevy guy and always will be but I do like dodge and ford aswell. 9 out of 10 people are just too prideful and say they hate this or that and have never even owned another brand, they just hate it because most likely that's what their father or mother owned so they feel like they need to own it aswell. When I see or hear someone hating on a certain brand I always like to ask them.... which would you like to see win a ford dodge or chevy V8? Or a Japanese brand? Then they come around and the brand doesn't matter anymore lol I don't hate Japanese cars but I know I'd rather see an american V8 (no matter the brand), whoop on the Japanese cars haha BTW ford guys are the worst because the true ford guys are so damn ignorant they absolutely HATE chevy and idk why because Chevrolet is probably the biggest name now days in drag racing and street racing.

    • @carterlee3427
      @carterlee3427 Před 5 lety +7

      I have to disagree.
      I don't like Chevrolet because they refuse to offer quality to their customers.
      Chevys fall apart. After only five years you'll be wearing your headliner on your head in a Chevy.
      The engines are pretty good and they go a quarter million miles if you take care of them. However, the rest of the vehicle will look like it was digested by bacteria at only half those miles.
      I drive a twenty four year old f-350 and it still looks almost new.
      It is an exquisite machine and a testament to customer value.
      But, the rivalry is fun. And, the more ridiculous people get with it the more fun it is.
      But, you'll have to excuse me because I have a candy ring and some fun dip and it's time for me to go and have a real treat!

      BOO' that's a bit harsh when you are as ignorant - while some vehicle will use an auxiliary vacuum pump for the brake booster/servo, that is not what is shown here. It is a vacuum/scavenge pump used to create a low pressure in the crankcase to reduce windage losses.
      It is increasingly common to use a hydraulic servo' on modified vehicles where a hydraulic power steering pump is fitted, as the pump can be used for the servo' as well as the steering rack.

      With Factory heads we ran 11.7. Add Aluminium and it is worth a point so 12.7. More modern Combustion Chambers than the Factory Heads and add a bit more. With the better more modern Combustion Chamber Flame front propogation is better so not as much timing needed so safer. Then ultimately, to get an engine making big numbers comes big Cams. Big durations vent compression so static Comp is a Big number but Dynamic Comp or Cylinder Pressures come down the more duration you have. I hope that helps. By the way, our built for Street Strip Clevo's are running Mid 12's:1 quite often on our 98 RON which is US 93. with no issues at all usually with cams over 250deg@50" and total timing of 26-28deg. Cheers. I hope I gave you a decent explanation.

One would be much better off producing a basic 393/408/418/427/436 stroker with a roller cam 351w block, adding some heads that cost between $800-$1900 a set complete, a nice sized cam, port injection, Terminator X and a simple 78/75 VS turbo kit that would allow them to.produce 900hp crank with ease, might want to move towards E85 pump fuel instead of 93/94 octane and be capable of well over 1000hp if the fuel system is there while spending quite a bit less and having way less on the line if the thing breaks along with an ungodly Tq curve without the added cost, wear.complexity of high rpms to reach the numbers or the razor thin tuning window 13:1 compression must dictate.
