If the custom audio option is disabled on your camera (it was on mine), make sure you have the camera mode set to "Manual". There's a switch for this on the top of the G70 near the zoom rocker.
Can you tell me if the cannon external boom mic works on this Camcorder? Is it only a cold shoe requiring a mic that needs to be plugged in to the camcorder or can I use the DM 100 Cannon External Boom Mic that I already own that runs off a hot shoe?
Unfortunately I don't think you can, because the compatibility of your DM-100 does not include the VIXIA HF G50 or G60. For your DM-100 mic you need these Cameras VIXIA HF G40/HF G30 , VIXIA HF G20/HF G10 , VIXIA HF S21/HF S20/HF S200 , VIXIA HF S30 , VIXIA HF S11/HF S10 , VIXIA HF S100 , VIXIA HF M52/HF M50/HF M500 , VIXIA HF M41/HF M40/HF M400 , VIXIA HF M32/HF M31/HF M30/HF M300 , VIXIA HF20/HF200 , VIXIA HF11/HF10/HF100 , VIXIA HG21/HG20
Thanks so much for this video! Fantastic fix to access the audio menu for the built-in microphone. When I plug in my Rode video micro and/or lav mic most of the settings are once again greyed out. Have you found this to be the case in your experience and if so have you found a solution if so? Thanks again!
All Microphone options are available only in certain modes. If your Camcorder is set to auto you will have many grayed out or unavailable mic options. Also, some options are for an optional external shotgun mic. See page 72 of this manual gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/1/0300035051/04/vixiahfg60-im4-en.pdf
