My Vixia HF R70 has slightly different menu options. Here's how I got mine to work:
Press “play” button on camera to get into “play” mode.
Hit the “home” button on screen.
Choose “wifi”, then “check/edit settings”, then “access point configuration settings”, then pick the first “not configured”. The easiest way to set it up is “search for access points”. Find your network on the list, and enter your password.
Then go back to the “wifi” menu and choose “playback via browser”.
This sets up a wifi network, and it gives you the password on the screen.
Choose this network from your computer or device and join it with the given password.
When you join the network, the screen will tell you to go to “vixia.canon” in your web browser.
When you’re there, you can see your videos and photos and download them.

This video is how to use the wifi feature on this particular camera. you can dislike my video because yours didn't work considering I'm showing you how it works perfectly with these steps for me. Also this isn't about the quality of the camera or canons decision to use this type of transfer system. its just about transferring photos to devices via the wifi function. thats it! people are funny.

OMG, I wish I had found your tutorial a day ago. I spent probably close to 2 hours screwing around trying to do just this. I did figure it out but your video would have saved me hours. Now, how do you connect the other app which allows you to remote control the camcorder? This is also vexing me. I've got the HF-R50.

ACTUALLY, I have a WINDOWS10 LAPTOP, and I'd really love how i can hook the camera videos, if they just went to the camera's memory, to my laptop, and WINDOWS8 PC. Do we need different apps on those devices to transfer the videos from the phone memory. Also, even easier, how do i make sure that my camera is recording on the SD CARD, so I don't need to pull the videos from the camcorder memory?

Thanks for the video. I am an IT guy and I am having issues figuring that (*&%% thing out. Just about ready to box it up and send it back. I just want to be able to download to my PC wirelessly. What model is your camera? I have the R70. It doesnt have the HOME button you mentioned in your video. I only have a PLAY and ON/OFF.

I have literally spent hours reading and researching this software problem. nothing works when it comes to software detecting my VIXIA HF G40. everything on cam corder and iPad work properly. The AP will not detect my camcorder.

I just bought a Canon Vixia HF R800 Camcorder and am really peeved to find out it doesn't have Wi-Fi capabilities. That I can tell anyway. Which Canon Vixia Camcorders do?? Although, honestly, I would probably just return the damn thing and not exchange it. I'd go buy a different brand altogether. It ticked me off enough I had to go buy a memory card. They should be included.
Mine is an R62. Not sure which one you have, but I don’t have the home button by the power and play button. When I tap the home button on the lcd screen, it leads me down a dark, dark path. I’m going to try getting the footage I have into an sd card and save it the old fashioned way. Next I’m going to punt the camera into a landfill and never buy a cannon product again.

So basically this is like sharing files on a Windows HomeGroup. But can the Canon camcorder and the Android device talk to each other without needing any proxy server? Say you want to transfer files directly from the camera to the tablet on the go where wifi hotspot is not possible. And would it be possible to remotely control your Canon to shoot videos wirelessly through an Android apps much like an IP camera? Lastly, would it be possible to go "Facebook Live" just by connecting wirelessly through a 3G phone device?
I just received my camcorder today and when I hit the home button there's no wifi option, would this mean my camcorder doesn't have that option? I did exactly as you stated but there is no wifi option to choose...

This is a great review for the Vixia model he has but the model I (and others) apparently have is different. I have the Canon Vixia HFR70, 32X Optical Zoom, 57X Digital Zoom and my camera is all black. Notice in this tutorial video his camera is silver on the lens surround, obviously a different model year. I have no home button where he indicates, only on the LCD screen, and when I hit that the next choices are no where near what his are. This is why I and others cannot use this tutorial and are still stuck.

Thought you were THE ONE who would have magic news that EVERYONE who was suckered in by the hype on the vixia line has been waiting for. When you started out talking about connecting to my computer via wifi ...Yaay I thought. Nope....Canon obfuscate serious shortcomings with this line and upsells it's unnecessary gimmicks. It will wifi into my network ...but then I have no internet access. Beauty!!
My iMac is late model custom built by apple for pro video/audio/3D editing. My moto e 2nd gen phone and my Samsung smart TV and the iMac all wifi into each other but not this paper weight.
It's garbage ..a toy at best ...bought the R62 cuz it seemed TOL in 2015 & if it performed half as good as what is written about it it would still be an ok tool. No one mentioned with it's SIMPLE wifi connectability that it requires a phone with NFC. I've used it 3 or 4 times and each time I feel more and more frustrated with its cumbersome menus and bad ergonomics ...not to mention my $90 moto takes better pics and vids. I especially need high quality in low light -nightclubs and theatre settings. Shoulder mount with dual XLR for audio ...was told this could take a feed off a mixing board ..."oh yes ..no problem dual purpose audio plug" ...NOT. Oh well I'm only out $450 or so. Time to list it and end this torment. LoL xoxo

I tried that and the transfer rate is too slow. it's way faster just to take the SD card out of the camcorder stick it in the slot in the computer and then transfer the files.
