almost choked on tea when you did the Blackadder pose, well played Sir, well played
Yay, more 18th century mens sewing content!! Earlier 18th century menswear is so underrepresented. They look lovely, and very comfortable for summer, and the lighting in a lot of these shots is really pretty. I can definitely hear the difference in your voice now!
I liked how simple the fly was when I did my 1730's breeches last year, so much easier than modern fly closures.
Thank you so much! Ngl the fly stressed me out, I hated that it was a bit harder to document than fall fronts
@@pinsandweevils ugh, yes it's SO much harder to find resources for early 18th century menswear!
So much of my 1730's research was just zooming in on a lot of museum pictures, and trying to guess and work backwards from that 60's suit in Costume Close Up.
@@pinsandweevils also, forgot to say I'm envious of your paste buckles! I've been thinking of buying those ones for ages but haven't yet! so preety and sparkly
Last time I was this early I still thought I was cis
Ayyy 😆
Your videos single handedly will be the basis for my femme Stede Bonnet this summer! I love how concise and well spoken you are with your tutorials! Like you, I’m probably going to swing toward using linen over silk (though the character would most certainly lean silk over linen) for my first pair of breeches. The idea of silk pants just absolutely terrifies me for some reason. That and the fact that linen will wash easier. I can always upgrade later!! Hopefully mine turn out half as good as yours!
Thank you so much! That sounds like such a cool cosplay
im a big fan of listening to musicals while sewing- hadestown is a particular favourite
i like listening to pastures of plenty by solas while sewing
just clicked on the video for the second time because for some reason i didn’t realize that the different username was still you. i don’t regret rewatching though, you’re a pleasure to watch sew
Sorry about that! I’d been meaning to change it for a while, but knew it could cause problems. Still, I figured it would be better to get it over with, since changing it would only get trickier the longer I’m on CZcams!
The colour looks very nice on you. Plus, I appreciate the Blackadder reference hahaha
dang that is a LOT of buttonholes. gorgeous!
im glad to see you back! 👏👏
btw, the linen fabric looks gorgeous and the results looks fantastic👌👌
Thank you!!!
Keep up the good work! And be yourself, whatever the odds, it's YOUR life!!! ❤
Woah! This is fascinating! You’re really good and your voice is so calming to listen too. Definitely subscribing!
Thank you so much! That’s very kind of you ☺️
This is probably one of the easier to follow menswear sewing out there, thank you for your time, I can't wait for the jacket, that will be helpful to get for my 1920s patterned jacket
Thank you so much!
I like to listen to music from (roughly) the period i'm working in when I sew! Current favourites include Pergolesi's stabat mater and Bach's oratorios for 18th century; my favourite 19th century composer is fauré (the requiem is to die for, pun intended, and everything he wrote for cello is just so beautiful)
I hadn’t actually listened to Fauré before, thank you so much for the recommendation!
It is always nice to find channels with men's historical sewing... There are so few I try to make sure and save any I find.
your stitches are so even and beautiful! and now I have severe embroidered initial envy! great work, and awesome video!
Thank you so much! I do get a bit frustrated with my stitches but that perfectionist instinct probably helps 😆
Holy crap. They look so good.
SIR! The finish of this is INDREDIBLE. just wow.
Thank you so much!
Great video and a great result:) maybe I'll try it too after my exams- I can make an okayish shirt but was always too scared to make anything else, especially if I have to draft it myself (also dysphoria makes me kinda uncomfortable when trying things on :/ )
Also, your voice is really nice!
Oh, I feel you, dysphoria can make pattern drafting and fitting a bit rough. Still, it’s a great skill-especially for trans people, I think, since finding commercial patterns that fit right can be tough and drafting your own stuff gives you a lot of control over the final lines and silhouette!
Nice work, fun to watch! Thanks.
The breeches look awesome and im looking forward to the suit. also your voice sounds cool :)
Thank you so much! It’s not quite where I want it to be, but it’s a lot better than it was!
Very elegant.
Looks gorgeous.
Very noice, personally i prefer the breeches with the with fall fronts for obvious reasons 😂
Are you planning to do silk breeches? My fine sir, you're really be living your best life
Also, if you fancy blues rock, you might love Greta van Fleet and Rory Gallagher
I’m planning to go to Fête des Galantes when I’m a fourth year, and the outfit I want to put together for that will be silk! And thank you for the recommendation ☺️
aaaahhh im so glad to have found yr channel!! i am a nb butch lesbian who wears menswear pretty exclusively and it's really hard to find good sources for any historical mens clothes that show the actual process. very much looking forward to continuing thru yr backlog 💜💜💜
Brilliant!!!
Thank you so much!
Alright dude your voice definitely dropped. I've been on T for a while and it's exciting to follow someone who is still going through the start
Also hell yeah Coraline by Maneskin is a bop and no one can change my mind
Thank you so much! I love Coraline and Torna a Casa so much, you’re right and you should say it
They look great
These look so hecking good!!
They're so cute!!
Thank you!
Great video! I’m so glad to see you back!!
A very good pair of pants! I like the color and the fit looks good!
You are awesome! The breeches look beautiful and that color is so pretty!
Awesome stuff really enjoy your series on you crafting things :D
Very nice! I usually listen to movie soundtracks while sewing. Right now its LotR, Kingdom of Heaven, and Last of the Mohicans on rotation.
excellent video! I made breeches in 2017 and they were so confusing! I need to make new ones since I stormed a muddy redoubt in my current breeches and they aren't in the best of shape, so this video is super helpful!
Thank you! That sounds like an INCREDIBLY worthy cause to sacrifice your breeches to
Thanks for making this video! I'm making breeches and this is helpful!
Glad to hear it! I hope yours turn out well!
Just a comment, I wear the kilt every day, warmest was +45 in Iraq, coldest -35 in Canada. Far more comfort than breeks or trews
Your voice! It be dropping! :D
Ahh welcome back to my feeed.
Thank you so much for the recommendation! Def agree about the juice as well, I grew up with Apfelschorle, which is pretty much just apple juice and sparkling water
Waiting for some green linen to finish my dark green wool small-clothes. Already made some black wool small-clothes. second time will be more easy I think.
These look great! I will definitely refer back to this video when I muster up the courage to make myself a pair 😊
The only way to get good at it is to jump in and practice! But maybe linen drawers would be a good way to work up to it? They’re pretty similar but a bit simpler
@@pinsandweevils I'm working on some 18th century pockets right now and am planning to make an 18th century shirt next. I'm sure after that I will feel a bit more confident ☺️
It ain’t as tasteful as historical music or Måneskin, but Lord Huron’s music is very soothing and mindless and also the lyrics slap
Kate you KNOW I love Lord Huron
ooh, your eyelets look beautiful!
Thank you so much! I really love sewing eyelets 😆
@@pinsandweevils They're really satisfying. I'm a little sad that I don't have a reason to make them, doing Viking.
It looks so good! Love the colour too, it somehow reminds me of folklore style clothing (if that's an accurate way to describe it)
I always prefer watching something mindless, as I was doing yesterday with how it's made.
ooh music recommendations! Some of my faves are The Magnetic Fields, AJJ, and Kimya Dawson (although her songs make me cry so maybe not for sewing lol). Someone more obscure who I really like is Daniel Knox.
Great video! After getting hooked on historical costuming videos, I've started actually making some stuff myself. Just a chemise for now, but I plan on (eventually) making myself some full sets of both men and women's clothing, so I'll definitely revisit your videos when the time comes.
Thank you so much! Congrats on getting started, I hope it’s all going well!
I'm in an absolute pickle rn in my pattern making class (I have a 1/2 scale 1760 suit and I'm dying) and your instructions just showing the front are wicked helpful. I would like to take this opportunity to also curse Norah Waugh's historical pattern books.
I was inspired by your videos to make an 18th century shirt a while back, (I'm procrastinating the sleeves at the moment because I'm doing two strips of insert lace into both sleeves knowing full well that mixing elements of Edwardian women's lace gowns with men's blouses was gonna piss of at least one conservative and will take a long time to do), will definitely make a pair of breeches at some point in the future so thank you for the detailed video! Probably one of the best men's historical clothing channels, and if not definitely my favourite.
(also your voice!! as a trans masc I am getting second hand gender euphoria)
That’s so cool! I’d love to see how that shirt turns out ☺️
Ideas for music's to listen to while sewing
SJ Tucker
Tricky Pixie
Heather Dale
There is a nice rabbit hole starting point.
I listened to dungeon synth while I sew also you’re a great inspiration for trans people to get into reenacting.
Relatable. I`ve been streaming Caroline so often CZcams started showing me ads in Italian. I myself am at the moment in the process of making two vests and the only thing that`s getting me through the ordeal of sewing circle darts are Broadway musicals.
Love the color! What are those pretty things with tassels at around 00:08:34?
That’s a watch fob! It attaches to a pocket watch instead of a chain (since eighteenth century watches were generally kept in a pocket in the breeches and not in a waistcoat pocket)
@@pinsandweevils oh! You should make a video about that! It`s very pretty. Did you make it yourself?
@@loveoffthedamned Sadly no, I bought it on Etsy from the same place as the buckles!
Love your videos, hoping for more - you’re probably busy with school.
Quick question: where did you get your pattern? I can only find patterns for ‘drop-front’ breeches. Thanks
Fantastic job! I'm impressed by all the buttonholes you made, and the front looks fantastic. There wasn't a shot from behind--did this pattern give you the infamous 18th-century-diaper-butt?
Oh, of course! I had to make sure I could bend over/sit/ride in them, so they’re very baggy in the seat 😆
Have a link for Sam Napoleon's pattern you referenced?
Would you mind linking to the tutorials you used to draft these in your description?
This is a really useful resource! Thank you for your thorough explanations and attention to datail! I also appreciate that you're candid about your mistakes. It makes the whole process seem less daunting!
Would you be interested in selling your pattern that you created? I'm intimidated by the idea of drafting my own pattern, and I haven't really found any available that have the qualities I like.
Do you have a link to the video you used for the pattern drafting? Drafting is a skill that I need to work on.
It should be in this group! facebook.com/groups/18thcenturymenswear/?ref=share
if your looking for something more... interesting to listen too check out VITAS. He's am eccentric russian singer who's probably most famous for his song the seventh element but my favorite is called Сердце or Heart in english. :)
Where does one find this sam napolean?
Here! facebook.com/groups/18thcenturymenswear/?ref=share
+1 for the Blackadder reference 🙂 Also, you should stick a nsfw tag on that diagram because it's a little bit of penmanship porn 😂😂😂
Marius: Recommend some music
Me: Maneskin! Maneskin!
Marius: Can't listen to anymore Maneskin
Me: :(
I’m in too deep, I started playing bass recently and decided to name my bass Marlena
@@pinsandweevils I havent played an instrument since I was 10 years old but I heard Coraline and was like if I dont learn to play this immediately What Is The Point
Listen to Bach
