Countering an inferior Double Corner variation

  • In today's checkers video, I analyze a popular checkers variation in the Double Corner opening. This variation is often played by beginner and intermediate players because of the natural developing sequence. However, it is inferior and should be avoided, proving that natural moves on the board sometimes just don't cut it.
    I also highlight and provide analysis for two games sent in by a viewer. Thanks for sharing your games with us, Rjexe! Keep up the good work!

    Thank you teacher.. Well explained for the double corner... I have a suggestion, how can someone defeat or even play draw game with this kelso opening variation which begins 10-15, 21-17, 9-13, 17-14 then 15-18 for an exchange or 10-15, 21-17 then 15-18 for exchange? Because it seems very tough to me... Any help please...!!!

      Thanks, Samson! I responded to your comment in the previous thread. Here is what I wrote: The 15-18 defense in the Tyne opening (10-15, 21-17, 9-13, 17-14, 15-18) is known as the Frazier defense. It is sound, though largely untested in serious play. The 10-15, 21-17, 15-18 is a very good 3-move opening with a decent amount of scope. Someday I will cover it on this channel.

    Hey man I'm upset cause I've trained for the tournament and had to work that week so bro I wasn't able to make it. I wanted to ask for time off but I didn't think they'd let me cause it might've got me in some trouble. But other than that, great video as always. 🥺☹️

      Manny -- good news! The tournament was postponed until Nov. 12-13 and it will be held in Archdale, North Carolina, which is even closer to you. So, nothing was missed at all! Hopefully you will be able to attend this tournament!

    What if somebody goes 23-18? After you go 9-14 white forcing you take them? Then what happens bro

    • @azcheckers
      @azcheckers  Před 2 lety

      Hello! If white plays 23-18 as a counter to 9-14, then we have the weakest opening in all of checkers! It's called the Double Cross, and after the exchange, white must play the *27-18 capture, and then red is extremely strong after either 12-16 or 5-9.

I can, however, give a recommendation for a great website in which you can play against others. It's playok.com, and it's free to sign up. There are players of all skill levels there, so I think you'll have a good experience. I'd like to hear your feedback if you check it out!

      You are absolutely correct, Marcus! Differentiating between good and sound natural moves and inferior / losing natural moves can be extremely difficult. There is another variation in the Paxton Defense (which I will show later on) in which the natural moves are actually losing moves!
