The Whilter-Exchange: a strong defensive and restrictive reply to the early 7-11

  • If you're looking for a strong alternative to the often complicated Whilter opening (11-15, 23-19, 9-14, 22-17, 7-11), then I recommend taking a look at the Whilter-Exchange opening (11-15, 23-19, 7-11, 22-18). This 22-18 move instead of 22-17 cuts down the scope of red's attacks tremendously, and leads to a very even and natural game. I also highlight an instructive late mid-game formation, which requires a number of sacrifices to draw.

Thank you -- I appreciate it! This channel was dormant with occasional travel videos posted here and there until September 2019, when I started posting about checkers regularly again. I recommend checking out the checkers videos I've published since then, and if you would like to see a video focusing on a specific checkers topic, please let me know!

    Hello Ryan!
What a rare strategy, I never break the center of the table, only I do that just in case I wanna go through new things, but it works and appears to be strong! There were a lot of variations to play for white as for red, interesting! Greetings!

Thanks, Cesar -- always great to hear from you! And I completely understand -- when I first started playing checkers, I never liked breaking the center like you see here in this opening.
However, as you have seen, not only is it a sound move, but it's actually very good! I hope you'll find success using this opening going forward!
