- The Switcher defense (11-15, 21-17) played a predominant role in the 2022 Unrestricted World Championship, which was ultimately won by Matteo Bernini against the champion Lubabalo Kondlo. In Game 19, Bernini follows published play which includes two instructive sacrifices.
James Wyllie pioneered much of the play on the Switcher opening in the 19th century. Because of its restrictive nature and the difficulty in countering red's many attacks, it isn't seen as much in modern unrestricted play. However, Bernini proved otherwise with his masterful performance, so we may see this opening played more and more!

Good work Ryan! Very insightful 👏
Thank you very much!
Thank you!
We talked about this very thing in Fly or Die the other day AZ. Another good video
Thanks, Dennis! Yes, it's a solid defense, although it is difficult to navigate without any prior knowledge.
Good video Ryan. I enjoyed.

Ryan I'd like to go over this with you ASAP whenever you have time
Hey Alex, yes of course!
Wow
Who is your favorite checkers opponent Ryan?
It's a really good question and I think nearly impossible for me to answer! I have enjoyed everyone I have played against. Most players will agree that playing against the best will bring out your best, so I have especially appreciated playing the world champions and challengers: Moiseyev, King, Scarpetta, Bernini, Hallett, Beckwith, Holmes, Francis, Laverty, etc. Every game against those opponents has been educational and fun!
Is there anyone who can beat you at checkers?
Frisian checkers is the most complex.
