    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    I'm a 23-handicapper just back from a 9-hole round today. Its not often I comment on YT video's, but I've been following Tom for about a month now and the improvement in my game is staggering - hence this post. Tom's zany, mad-cap on-screen persona belies his ability to convey essential golf information to hackers like me. I've struggled with consistency for years now and have hovvered around the mid-20's since I first started playing 15 years ago. This video in particular had a massive influence on me finally finding consistency with my irons; basically, the forward leaning shaft, weight slightly on the front leg and keeping my body over the ball has lead to less swing thoughts, a bit of confidence while addressing the ball, and, what for me is the Holy grail of golf - striking the ball consistently. Amazing. Totally amazing. Thank you Tom. Please keep the videos coming!

    Im 65, coming out of 2 year golf layoff due to lower back pain. Tom's video on simple pain free swing convinced me to try it. Been to range 4 times now following his video instructions. Today was awesome as I focused on ball striking in the same spot by not swaying at all and taking arms more around the body. I was hitting a 3/4 swing and getting good distance for me with accuracy. 7 iron 155, 9 iron 130, etc. A couple more practice sessions and I'll be out on the course.

    @dang.9787 Před 2 lety +8

    This fundamentals video really got me realigned. I bookmark it and watch every few weeks because I feel that 90% of my swing issues are related to poor fundamentals - weight, hand position and covering the ball. I just hit a bucket at the range. Literally every shot was extra crispy (not original style) KFC and totally sauced. Thanks Tom!!!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety

      That's awesome, Dan! We all fall into the trap of getting too comfortable, and we then begin to take our grip, stance, posture, alignment, ball position, etc. for granted, but without proper attention these things do tend to creep on us over time. 90% of the result is already determined before we even take the club back, yet I've seen so many folks make a mess out of an already sound swing because they overlooked or did not consider the foundational elements of the setup.
      Keep up the great work!!
      Yours in crispiness,

    I love the bit about tilting away. I got into trouble mid season with some horrific misses due to this. The problem is that it FEELS comfortable, like you're about to crush the back of the ball. However, it doesn't work. If you're hitting topped or thin shots, get back to covering the ball.

    Hi Tom. I started following you and only you for help with my golf game. I started to go to the range on a weekly basis and tomorrow I have a tee time. So far you have been an immense help just at the range. I no longer have a constant slice when I use my driver and with using your setup with weight on 60% on my left leg, I have been striking the ball much consistently now. Hopefully tomorrow when I play an actual round, I can break 100. I have only played once this year (two weeks ago) and I stopped counting strokes after 5 holes because I wasn’t making any contact, especially with the driver. I just couldn’t get the ball off the tee and in the air. I was topping the ball and just getting frustrated in the process. Thanks to a lot of your videos that I’ve been watching the past couple of weeks, my confidence has soared and I’m excited to play golf again. Tom, I just want to say that your instruction videos have changed my golf life. As a high handicapper, every time I'd go to the range I'd be looking for "feels" and it would take me sometimes the whole bucket before I discovered something I thought would work, only to find out the next time that I was doing the same thing all over again. I convinced myself it was because I was a "feel" golfer, but all I was, was a lousy golfer making the same mistakes over and over again. Your videos have allowed me to create a repeatable swing with repeatable results. Now, right from the first ball, I'm hitting it the same as last time, and, on top of that, I'm hitting my clubs 15 yards further than I used to (20-25 more if they're "real crispy, with mac & cheese.") I now can enjoy hitting balls without worrying about it all going to crap. And if I hit a few badly, I can go back to your fundamentals and straighten it out quickly. Hitting balls has become fun! Two months in, I'm ready to take my game to the course. Many thanks!!

    Just a quick thank u for uploads
    Started playing golf back in 95 got down to 12 handicap, wanted to get better, booked a lesson form local pro, my swing back then was stack and tilt but i didnt know that it just came naturally obviously the pro changeed, and i never shot to my handicap again in fact gave up golf in 2008, because of lockdown decided to dig out the old clubs and i mean old clubs and go to the range. Cut a long story short i never hit the ball better, played a local course and shot 92 and more the half of that score was the short game, it was my first 18 holes in 8 years. @@SagutoGolf Do you use long irons meand 3 and 4. Swing flaws show in the long irons and from my experience just standing on your left leg makes it much more difficult hiitng those clubs. Stack and tilt i believe takes the athleticism out of the swing. Athletic swings produce the better results with long irons. Technology today allows for golfers to be able to hit the ball further without using long irons so for the average guy they dont have to hit them. 99% of tour players get into their right side , just wonder why the est players who play for real money dont use stack and tilt. There may be a couple guys but for the most part you dont see it.

    This is an excellent video for folks like me and ANY other person for that matter. I've struggled with hitting thin shots and those talked about in this post. When I feel most weight on my lead side (I'm a right-hander), I can feel much more confident on hitting the ball first and then divot much more easily. I'm not a new golfer, I've been golfing for over 45 years, but this video is "gold" for those people who are serious about crisp contact. Good job Tom! I've shot in the high 60's and mid-70's for a long time and this approach is correct.

  • @hvp6575
    @hvp6575 Před 2 lety

    Hi Tom. Quick background, I picked up golf last July, after not playing serious for a about 25 yrs except for a max of 2-3 social rounds per year. So I decided to do it right and revamp my swing from grip to finish and technique on every shot from tee to green. So basically I started from scratch, keeping in mind I have a decent basic swing, am athletic, in my 40's and learn easily. Finding a pro to stick with is hard because you must first understand what he/she is saying (one time someone told me to "stay light on your feet" - no sense to me at all at 220lb - LOL) and their technique must truly work for you. There are fundamentals of technique that are indispensable throughout, and then there are differences in techniques that are taught depending on the pro. Until now, I have not followed any one pro and have been watching and saving videos from various pros, including yours, that I feel I learned something from. Now, to my main point.
    My most recent realization has given me the greatest improvement to my overall swing - that being proper stance, balance, weight transfer and turn. Unfortunately, I started with videos focusing on the waist up, when I think a student should begin with the feet and legs and work the focus upwards. With regards to weight shift, you say to lean into your left/lead leg as you take away and the right leg straightens, which I've tried and practiced over and over with no success. Then I saw a video on "foot pressure" from Christina Ricci, which made sense to me and I started to play around with and discovered that I did not have proper balance in my stance during the swing. The beginning of the downswing comes from working the ground assisted by the pressure built in the right leg with perfect balance and a centered torso. Here's a video from Nick Faldo which shows exactly the opposite and what I'm talking about.
    czcams.com/video/DdWSuEAYx88/video.html
    My question - does this differ from what you teach? Or was I not understanding you correctly? Please note that I love the sport, am not criticizing anyone for their work/videos, and in fact, greatly appreciate your and all the other pros' videos in which I have found many great nuggets/tips that are priceless. I wish I had CZcams 25 years ago! Thanks and look forward to your thoughts.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety

      The Faldo video seems to be in direct contrast to the Stack & Tilt system with regard to weight shift. In S&T You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. The upper torso/head - and thus the swing center - remains in place during the increasing forward weight load in the downswing. This enables the golfer to "clear" while keeping the club moving on the proper in-to-out path. There's no shifting back and forth, and the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.
      As for what Sir Nick says about the hip turn, I speak about the opposing S&T move in this episode: czcams.com/video/GYRCd7WMoSI/video.html This video also features the V1 Pressure Mat, enabling the viewer to see what my weight is actually doing in the swing.
      Should you ever decide to commit to a particular system, then I hope you will consider the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school. That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. So many folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Here's a link if you would like to know more about it: saguto.golf

      @Bob Brennan - Bob thats a great question. I run into the same problem at the local driving range that I use. What has worked for me is placing a small towel or a golf tee about an inch behind the ball. If I strike the towel or hit the golf tee, that lets me know that I hit behind the ball. If those items don't move after the strike, that lets me know I hit the ball and then ground contact after. Hope this helps....
