  • The most important skill you need in the golf swing to be good at golf - ALL golfers need this skill in the golf swing to be good at golf. Learn the most important skill and fundamental of the golf swing that will show you how to have clean contact and hit the golf ball clean every time (hit the ball then the turf). The skill every golfer needs is the ability to have the same point of contact in the golf swing. That means hitting the golf ball then the turf every time - having clean contact every time. This is no doubt, the most important skill every golfer needs because having consistently clean contact with the golf ball and the turf is the foundation of a repeatable golf swing. All golfers need to know this important golf swing skill.

    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    Thanks for the great video share Tom. Your tips are very simple to follow and even self-explanatory in some cases. I’ve been following the videos for a few weeks now and I’ve noticed some key improvements in getting my swing consistent and better impact. I’m not too worried about distance but my dispersion has noticeably reduced for my irons and the accuracy has definitely improved which for me is key. Keep up the good work.

    Not gonna lie. I have been training my swing for 8 months using CZcams and feedback from scratch golfers. I had about 5 guys on CZcams that I trusted enough to listen to and try to learn from. Since finding Saguto golf last week, he is the only one I’ll listen to going forward! Makes it so simple! Soon as I go back to one of my old instructors, I’m back to over thinking.

      Just blown away honestly. Went to the range yesterday using Tom’s tips and it was the best range session in a while! Only problem was I hit maybe 4-5 balls a little fat out of the bucket. So I get on CZcams this morning and this video teaching you how not to hit it fat or thin is staring me in the face. Ready for round 2 now!

    Great content guys, eliminating weight shift is something I've been thinking about for a long time and I wouldn't be surprised if modern golf instruction starts going in that direction. Another big advantage is that it's a lot easier to clean up the swing and filter unwanted movements that go along with the shift and are detrimental to the strike!

    Tom thanks for the instruction and it really seems like you want us to play our best golf. It comes across that way in your videos. I just picked up the game this spring at 60 to spend time with the boys, now addicted. Since watching your videos it has helped my swing, best score thus far is 94 thanks to you, usually around 105. When I follow the "stac/tilt" teaching my ball striking is more consistent. My issue is I'm left handed so my lead leg is my right leg which has had 3 minor arthroscopic surgery's over the years so putting 55/45 tilt on the front leg has soreness as the number of holes played increases. So I'm trying more of a balance 50/50 but honestly not striking as clean as with the Stac. I'm trying to find a balance of Stac/tilt and 50/50?

    I saw one of your videos on “CZcams shorts,” that was less than two minutes long. It changed my game. I am 65 and a 7.1 index, but only because my short game is really good. I have been hitting/ball striking terrible for the past few years. Your short video showing how bringing back the club on the reverse C, and return it along the same arc reminded me of my first golf lesson ever. As I lose flexibility being older even though I’m in good shape at 6’ 0” 188 lbs, I just don’t have the flexibility I used to and realized I had been picking my club up and not making a shoulder turn. Your short lesson changed everything for me and I went out and shot 76 with my son. I’m now watching all your videos and sending them to my friends. I’m in San Diego but I saw you had a 717 area code and I am originally from Pennsylvania so if you’re from Pennsylvania that’s terrific because that’s where we originally are from. I can’t imagine why I’ve never discovered you before but you’re terrific and I appreciate your videos so very much. Thank you.

      A significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking.
      I'm in South Carolina now, but I did grow up in South Central PA.
      Thanks so much for your support and for sharing your success, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!!
      Tom

That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying and resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise as well as all my short game instruction, plus advanced level courses on shot shaping and power/distance and more. So many folks across the globe - including many seasoned and low-handicap players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result. Great video, that's one of my problems when I when I try to load up on my take away. ( Thinking I will gain more distance, to a certain point) I can tell when I hit about 1/2 - inch behind the ball, that I'm swaying too much. Next time Im at range I'll try this drill. I can even try it in the yard lol. So one of the things I have to careful of is to not get over to much of the ball or been my knees too much in the downswing causing me to take those deep divots, instead of those dollar vivids. Thanks

      I appreciate that, Marty, and I'm happy to know that you'll be enrolling in the school!
      Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start on your journey to the Land of Ball Striking Bliss:
      1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this.
      2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing!
      2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down.
      3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf
      4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school enrollment - and begin engaging with your fellow members. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I really think you’ll enjoy it!
      I look forward to assisting you through the school’s structured lessons and drills towards building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level!

    I love your instruction and your enthusiasm Tom. I have been working on maintaining my weight on the front foot (55/45) since you mentioned it a number of your lessons back with VERY good results (no divots just a couple of blades of grass). I have been told that on my bad shots I seem to be reverse pivoting which I guess could be due to collapsing my left/front leg/turning hips too much or could be moving my head forward? any ideas/swing thoughts on how not to occasionally reverse pivot? I am another bloody Australian so am to far away to see you in person otherwise I would in a heartbeat.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Peter,
      Since we’re keeping the weight forward throughout the swing, the only way to reverse pivot is if some of our weight leaks into the trail side.
      There are some channel videos that address this to some extent, but really the best opportunity for learning is the SagutoGolf online school For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety

      You are definitely not alone with getting stuck on your trail side, Thomas. Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness.
      You will likely be amazed at how a centered swing will really crisp up your ball striking. Saw consistent distance and dined on KFC impact until I stopped. dude. the smile on my face right now is pure amazement. the last 20 years have been a huge ?????????. That has ended as of today. • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety

      I'm glad to know that this lesson helped you, Brian! In the swing system I teach you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.

      I know that keeping the weight forward initially may feel very strange to those who have only ever subscribed to a swing model that is based on shifting weight from back to front, but yes - in this swing system you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. There's no "weight shift", therefore - unless one were to fall backwards - there's nothing to reverse or pivot!! Stick with it and the result will ultimately be a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing!

      As for the "feel", that's a very individual thing. You may feel the shoulder turning down, I may feel myself tilting and extending, others may feel in the chest, arms, legs, hips, tailbone, etc... I do my best to convey different "feels" or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible because we're all unique physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with me may not necessarily work for you. Furthermore, a feel or thought that performs well for you this week may run its course or get overdone and not play out so nicely next week, so it's good to have alternates to call upon if needed. The key takeaway here is that no matter the variety of suggested feels/thoughts offered for a particular element of the swing, they are all directed at getting different golfers to achieve the same desired motion or position. (It's like a multiple choice test with no wrong answer!)

    I have to hand it to you Tom. This video with Jess was like hitting the lottery for me. Maybe once in 30-40 swings with an iron, I would get that sweet buttery feel of a dead solid perfect, iron shot you talked about. I did exactly as you guys instructed. I took short swings with straight arms and 55-60 percent of my weight on my lead leg. I did this for about 15 minutes without hitting any balls. My divot was always in front of my alignment rod. Long story short, my first 8 shots with a half swing were spot on in the center of the club face. I had a little fade but oh how I loved that buttery feel and solid click of ball being hit perfectly. Tried a few 3/4 swings and they were good also. I have a few timing issues to start drawing the ball again but don’t anticipate that will be hard. Many thanks for the best day I’ve had on the range in a long time. Taking it to the course tomorrow!

    Hello Tom. I am Benny , from Jakarta. I have been following you for couple of years. Your tips in this video give me great results, especially on my irons and hybrid. My question is, do we still stay 60/40 for driver? Because I can hit more solid and more consistent as well on driver if I use your tips in this video, but then difficult for me to swing up. Or for driver, I have to switch back to 50/50 weight distribution on set up?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety

      Hi Benny - It's essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: czcams.com/video/7fmtzyH3rsA/video.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: czcams.com/video/SLjwU_1Cc7o/video.html If you do a search on this channel you'll see some content on the driver and fairway woods. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously.
      As for hitting up with the driver, think of proper impact position - hands leading the clubface, bowed front wrist, weight 90% loaded into the lead leg. It'd be difficult to retain those angles if we were actually hitting up on it. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants using extra high tees and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, believe it or not the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.3 degrees - nearly level but slightly down nonetheless! Thus, I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
      So yes - you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. If you keep that weight moving forward with the lower body while keeping your head and upper torso in place during the downswing, then the path will naturally shallow and you'll be bombing your driver!
      If you would like to own this swing through your entire bag - learning it at your own pace in a structured and sequential manner - then perhaps you will consider the SagutoGolf online school? So many folks across the globe are now playing the best golf of their lives as a result. As an enrolled member you'll enjoy:

    • @SagutoGolf

      That's awesome, Gary - thanks so much for sharing your ball striking improvement!!
      The need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. Can you have some transfer of pressure into the trail side in the takeaway? Yes - as long as you keep your center intact and don't shift off the ball. But you best be back into your lead side by time you get to the transition. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.
      By the way, have you given any thought yet to enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Keep your arms straight and keep your weight on your lead leg. It's so simple but I've never seen this advice until this week (watched a similar video with Danny Maude to). I went to my course practice area today and hit 25 pitching wedge shots and 25 8 iron shots and it was a revelation. Gone is the feeling of trying to kill the ball with all of my strength and now it feels so smooth. There were no more fades or slices (I did have four shanks though) and now it's perfectly straight or small draws. Plus perfect divots after the ball! I can't wait to get back to the range!

    I have been lurking these Saguto Golf videos for a few weeks now. I'm newly returned to golf after a 20 year hiatus and I have never been a good golfer. I have never understood the synchronization of the lower and upper body before seeing these videos. I used the swing down with my arms, cutting across the ball. The result was horrible, inconsistent contact and a weak shot with zero distance. I've tried Tom's suggestions lately and have seen a dramatic improvement in ball striking, consistency, and length. It hasn't translated to better scores yet, mainly because my short game has let me down. I know I'm on the right track with Tom's concepts...and with a little focused practice, I'll be breaking 100 in no time. Thank you Mr. Saguto!
