  • GOLF'S ULTIMATE DRIVER CRASH COURSE! Welcome to Golf's "DRIVER'S ED" - you will become a master of the driver in your golf swing with this full online golf driver clinic from Tom Saguto. This clinic includes the Golf Swing Driver Setup, Driver Slicing and Driver Hooking fixes, as well as the proper Driver Golf Swing.
    Learn all of the keys to being a successful, powerful and accurate, driver of the golf ball. This four-part clinic will teach you the following things:
    1. Driver Setup - pre-shot fundamentals of successful driving.
    2. Driver Swing - how you should approach swinging the driver. I think you'll find that the swing is very much THE SAME as with any other club. BUT, keep these checkpoints in mind. Because the driver is a much longer club, what you're FEELing versus what is REAL are two totally different things!
    3. Fixes for Common Driver Problems and Pitfalls - stop slicing and hooking and get rid of those low shots!
    4. BONUS, Tom will be having a launch monitor session with feedback on his launch monitor numbers and how you can improve your driving with launch monitor feedback.

    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    Thank you for three of the best tips I ever got from a CZcams instructor: move the ball to the middle of my stance, bump my hips toward the target during the backswing, and swing with the shoulders rather than swing with the arms. I got all of those ideas from you and when I make sure my right elbow goes toward my liver, I'm good. Your free, CZcams instruction is better than what I got at Martin Chuck's $2000 camp and from local instructors who charged me $100/hour. You got the mojo, bro.

      Learning the proper way to keep the proper weight on the lead side during the entire swing has given me much, much more consistency and distance. The set you taught in the course is a game changer. Swinging every club the same way, except the driver, I use the tilt away from the target has resulted in many crispy drives, in which I had the same amount of weight on the lead foot then to. I watch one of your online videos the night before I go play every time and it's is coming together surprisingly well. Thank you. I love it!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 18 dny

      Hi John Antony,
      I'm very glad to learn of your iron play improvement - nice job!!
      It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: czcams.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/video.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
      1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
      Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
      2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
      3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

      Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant. 😎
      The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work for us, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball.
      Thanks for your kind words and keep up the great work!!

    Best driver tutorial ever❤❤❤ just goes to show swinging harder doesn't really add much of anything, maybe 10-15 yards. Which won't matter with 2nd shot because all you need to do at that point is go up or down an iron on 2nd shot. Like if the hole is 390 yards and I hit it 270 plus some roll to say 290, all I have to do is select my iron that I consistently hit 90-100 yards to the green. ❤❤❤

    This video brought my game back. I watched a video where the set up was very different. They wanted you to drop the club to your left leg. The tip was to drop below your knee. If it dropped higher up you were too far. Below your knee. Too low to far. What this does not take into account is body type. Short or long legs. Long torso or short. Arm length. I was too far from the ball in set up. Your setup is much simpler and can apply to all body types. I went to the range and followed your tips and my swing is back. Awesome

    Hi Saguto Golfers! I've been out of golf action for a few months due to a work-related back injury. Have to confess that I'm not the best of patients, so I've deliberately stayed away from golf whilst nursing my injury. Anyway, finally got back into it 2 weeks ago and did OK. Having rediscovered my golf mojo, I've now reacquainted myself with the Sir Thomas Saguto golf school here on CZcams. A few refresher videos later, I'm once again stacking over the ball - 55% loaded on the front foot, rotating my body around the ball, dropping the left shoulder under my chin and twatting the ball with "the wrath of god". Slowly but surely im seeing my scores getting lower and my confidence levels rise as my consistency levels push up higher on the Saguto KFC crispy scale. Keep on producing the uber-ace video's Tom, you're a breath of fresh air in an otherwise largely stale world of golf CZcamsr's👌👌👌

      Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness!

      What I teach is a complete golf swing system, not a series of tips, band-aids, and fixes for field dressing swing wounds. As such, the transformation takes time as we work to gradually eradicate those stubborn ghosts of swings past. It's a very worthwhile process, though, as it ultimately leads us to the land of consistent ball striking bliss. That is also why the sequential, comprehensive, structured learning platform of the school is far superior to trying to haphazardly piece things together through a series of YT videos.

    I took this lesson to the driving range over the past few days. Not sure what 60% feels like on my lead leg but I stacked a lot of weight on it, took my backswing, and ripped it dead straight. Then I did it again, and again, and again.
    As far as the push up from the lead leg during follow through, I felt that I had to initiate this as it didn’t seem to come as naturally as Tom suggests. Who cares? I was hitting the ball at least 250 and straight.

    Hey Tom. EXCELLENT! I have been using this since watching you and it is a “GAME CHANGER”. I do have one major concern. I don’t hear you talking about keeping your head still. When you are describing the swing and showing examples, your head is moving all over the place. When you take your real swing, your head is stable and ultimately getting the rocket launch you describe. Please clarify that with your followers! Do you agree? I look forward to your response. Again thank you for making a huge difference in my game. I am 70 and consistently hitting in the low 80s. Most of my issues now are just short came that will come with more practice and expect to be below 80.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!
      I absolutely do talk about a stable head. Here is one of my videos on this topic: czcams.com/video/E5csidjztzg/video.html A little bit of head tilting is acceptable (think of Jack Nicklaus), but we don't want the head to move out of the "box" established at address, neither up/down or side-to-side. Any such movement shifts the swing center and low point, causing two primary issues: 1) We lose some of the power that comes from swing in a fixed-point circle, and 2) we have to make a precise compensatory move in the downswing or else our ability to achieve consistently pure impact is fleeting.
      By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.

I even hit a 3 wood off the grass, whjch in 22 years of playing golf I've never been able to do! It's odd how simple this change in philosophy created such a wild difference! Thanks so much!

    Tom - oh to be young again, I’m 70. Thank you for the driver instruction, I sure need it. It appears your back (right) leg does not straighten that much with the driver. I wish you had a down the line shot, so we could see the back swing from a different view. I started your swing (stack and tilt) a couple months ago. I could not believe the results at first. But last week, I got screwed up with the driver. I tried everything, but nothing worked.. got really bummed out. Today, I saw how you push off with your left leg and tuck your butt while extending. Will take this thought to the range tomorrow. Thanks again.

    I found holding your back to the target longer was a game changer.. It sets you up for maximum acceleration through impact in concert with firm left leg resistance keeping you behind shot and shoulders squared on impact !! rather than most turning ahead of shot and losing all power.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 4 měsíci

      It's enabling you to keep your head in place and your swing center intact, Mark. As such it keeps the path appropriately shallowed and facilitates retaining your lag while simultaneously allowing you to harness the tremendous power of swinging on a tilted arc (known as "angular momentum").
      Well done, and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

    Thanks for giving us real specs. Most teachers are having us hit up, which I think traps me a little on the back foot. I just read that pros hit, on average, 1.3 degrees down.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      You read correctly, Steven, and thus I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, as efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver. Think of proper impact position - hands leading the clubface, bowed front wrist, weight 90% loaded into the lead leg. It'd be difficult to retain those angles if we were actually hitting up on it. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants using extra high tees and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - the path should be ever so slightly down.
      Cheers!
      Tom

    Tom, in previous videos you stressed letting your trail leg straighten at the top of your backswing but in this video I noticed that your trail leg stayed flexed? Is this because your using the driver instead of your irons or does it have something to do with pushing off more with your lead lag?

    • @NonnyStrikes
      @NonnyStrikes Před 4 lety

      his trail leg is the same the whole time, It's the longer arc that is deceiving you.
