  • How to have a Full Shoulder Turn in the Golf Swing in a simplified and body-friendly manner. Are you stressing to get a full shoulder turn in your golf swing? This is a MUST HAVE for all golfers - especially golfers 45 years or older. I am going to show you in this video how you can achieve an effortlessly powerful and body-friendly 90 degree shoulder turn in your golf swing.
    A 90 degree powerful shoulder turn is a good thing to have in the golf swing for more power but how many people can actually turn their shoulders that far without hurting themselves?
    Most golfers are told that if they can't make a full turn in their golf swing, they should go to the gym and get a workout designed to maximize their turning potential. Here's the thing, your shoulders aren't the problem, your method of turning in the golf swing is. For years, golfers have been taught to RESTRICT, FLEX, and COIL their bodies in the golf swing for power. The old golf swing philosophy has a disastrous effect on golf swings and also can cause many injuries in the lower back, hips, and knees/joints.
    The funny thing about all this TENSION in your golf swing is that it DOESN'T GIVE YOU ANY POWER. All it does is make you FEEL POWERFUL. Feeling powerful and being powerful in the golf swing are two totally different things. I can FEEL as much pressure in that trail leg and still hit the ball 150 with my driver.
    How do we access a full shoulder turn without any additional effort in the golf swing? It's simple. Get rid of your old habits of tensing up and coiling in the golf swing. The key to making a full shoulder turn in the golf swing exists with the hips. When you're tense, your hips are restricted from turning and, consequently, your shoulders are blocked as well - resulting in a very uncoordinated and restricted golf swinging motion. What you'll see in this golf tip episode is the 45/45 rule where I show you that you only need to turn your hips 45 degrees and your shoulders 45 degrees to make a 90 degree shoulder turn in the golf swing. This way of swinging the golf club will free up your body so much that you'll experience less stress, be able to play much longer, and increase your power with a bigger, fuller turn.

Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    Been watching your videos for awhile now. Shot 78 yesterday, first time breaking 80 since August 2018. I missed inside 5 feet birdies on 15 and 16 so could have been lower. I am 72 and have played golf the wrong way! Tom's lessons have made golfing fun! Amazing golf shots going to the pin with a draw! Wasted $1K at Golf Tech for lessons trying to teach me to turn by back up and towards the target without success. Tom's simple concept of arms connected to upper chest, elbows towards hips and turning the upper body bringing the lead shoulder down and under your chin was the simple concept that made sense out of a Stack and Tilt swing. Thanks Tom.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! This is finally the piece of the puzzle that worked for me after hundreds of other videos and teachers all failed!!! Straightening the back leg and putting weight on the front has given me turn, power and accuracy after all this time. I've always been pretty awful and horribly inconsistent, as any little variable in the swing can make you go from hero to zero. I recently have been focusing on my core staying centered which has allow me to hit the ball more solidly but lacked distance. Following this video, I am now hitting my sand wedge in my back yard almost twice as far as before with great accuracy and extreme height! A slow backswing did wonders for me - allowed me to coil, bend my wrists and then power sweep through the ball. Amazing! SLOW BACKSWING, KEEP THAT HEAD DOWN AND BODY CENTERED (keys for me). Thanks a million - love your videos!

    Brilliant brilliant! This has changed my whole game.Years of coaching loading the right leg then transferring back to the left was a big problem.After years of rugby my brain did not want me to transfer back to my left side.I have. Had two replacement knees but after watching a couple ofTom’s videos re tilting and the correct hip movement and crucially allowing the right leg to straighten I now find I can follow through completely. Golf coaches couldn’t help me but Tom did.Early days yet but I feel I have more power but need to resist the temptation of trying to really smash it.
    Also mayI add that I used to be an educational consultant training young teachers.My biggest message was the main goal of education was to explain things in a way that your students could understand. This is often overlooked by so called experts but Tom you pass this test with flying colours! Many thanks.

    30+ years of playing as the tension player you described. I watched this video yesterday and wanted to give it a try at the range. No time at the range today, noon tee time. I stood on the first tee and put all my weight on my front foot, turned my hips 45 and took a mighty swing with my driver. It felt odd...but.... pure contact. I was hooked/intrigued. By the fourth hole it no longer felt odd to load my left side, my contact was pure every damn time. I thought " what witchcraft is this". Then I unleashed a 200 yard 5 iron to the center of the green. I am 63, and it was 45 degrees out. That ball never should have gone 175 yards. Loudly I proclaim it. " I am a convert!!" Thank you Saguto Golf!

    This instruction has totally transformed my golf, I have been using the "stiff right side" for years and have had
    some success with it ,however as the years progressed it became so much harder to get a proper shoulder turn. I am 66 years old and play of a handicap of 8, and I'm struggling to hold that, pain in the lower back and shoulders contributing to that struggle. However after watching your video instruction ,with a little bit of scepticism, I tried this last week and I could not believe the quality of shots I was hitting, I kid you not I'm putting at least 10 to 15 yards on my shots, relatively pain free. It's such a simple method, I can't believe that this instruction is not taught more by golf teachers. Thank you so much, love your teaching style. I am confident I can lower my handicap, whereas before I saw this method it was only going one way and that was up.

    30 degree tilt at address... Check
    45 degree hip turn.. Check
    90 degree shoulder turn.. Check
    Club shaft on same as shoulders.. Check
    Left shoulder pointed outside ball, by how much 6". 12". or right at ball, same for irons & driver.???? Great videos keep up the great work.. Thanks

      In your backswing you want to maintain the same orientation to the ground that you established with your chest at address. This concept is the same for all clubs, although the shaft length on the driver and other longer clubs should naturally result in more of an around the body feel than the shorter irons.
      Cheers!

I have been practicing your method or approach, focusing on turning my hips 45* and my shoulders 45*, making sure that my lead shoulder is moving down in relation to the ball and keeping my lead arm fairly straight.. I am making better contact with the ball, especially with my driver. I am now ready to learn how to control the ball flight and direction, particularly with my wedges. you know.... we were taught all wrong in the 70s`and they screwed us. And over the years I became a skeptic. It's refreshing ... hell... it's a damn joy to find out that I was doing, a lot of things that you're telling me, was right. You've given me a better understanding of the swing and positions. I never liked that feeling of stretching as far back as you can go against a right leg. I've been more of a forward guy.. it seemed to me it was easier to stay still. I could never produce any club speed that way but I got pretty good as an old guy LOL. It's so nice to go back to my real grip... or turn the trail foot out some.... that takes coiling out and now I can move around smoothly. You just can't be athlete coiled up tight like that. It always felt to me that I could turn 45 and 90 degrees pretty easily, yet they taught you really had to S T R E T C H . You can't control anything all tight like that. Anyway... another great video. thanks

    Thankyou so much Tom, I’m 6ft 4 and have a big upper body. I thought that i would never be able to get a 90 degree shoulder turn I just presumed I was too big to do this move. Now you have told me about the hip movement I can easily get 90 degree turn. I haven’t hit a ball yet but I’m excited to get to the range. I can’t thank you enough ❤️

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety

      That's great, James!!
      By the way, to supplement this take note of my setup. Having both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward are prescribed setup features of the Stack & Tilt swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing.
      You definitely don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even that of a far less pliable 28-year-old golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking.
      Have fun out there!!

      Thanks, @Tmak - I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying my channel's content!
      While it's not necessarily part of this swing system that I teach, as long as you are staying centered and not shifting back and forth you can certainly get by with the lead heel coming up. For example, here's a quote from Jack Nicklaus, a pretty good player (🙄😆) who famously allowed his left heel to come up: "I don't believe in a lateral shift," says Nicklaus. "Of course not. I believe in staying on the ball." Asked what he thinks about teachers who advocate a weight shift, he answers, "They don't know how to play."
      By the way, if you are interested in working on keeping that lead heel on the ground and loading into your front side throughout the swing as I teach, this recent episode may help: czcams.com/video/1OSKMF8X_zQ/video.html

    Thanks another essential piece/tip, I needed to know, in order to revamp my too many moving parts, totally messed up golf swing.
    Excellent!!!

      I'm glad this lesson resonated well with you, Steven!
      It all begins with a proper setup. For example, contrary to shift and lift instruction where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in this swing system we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing 45 degrees of inclined hip turn. From there we only need another 45 degrees of shoulder turn to get to the full 90.
      By the way, based on your comment I thought you might appreciate the bird's eye view perspective offered in this episode from the archives: czcams.com/video/WxDD63quyk8/video.html
      Finally, with regard to revamping you "messed up swing", though I've likely mentioned it previously I really do believe that the structured, sequential learning platform of the online school will work wonders for you. saguto.golf

Not sure I can absorb too much more information on this stuff yet at this time. It will be difficult to get out and practice now, that the weather is turning colder in Minnesota, where I reside. Hi Tom great vid as usual. I have been playing the traditional way for 40+ years and trying to use your method from now on. One aspect that is hard is hitting with the right hand as you suggested. In your game is your left hand passive when you strike the ball or not ?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 4 lety

      Hi Robert - Sorry for taking so long to get back to you!....
      For me the front hand (left for righties) is primarily for guidance. That's my feel anyway. If the left gets overactive or tries to take control it can reroute my path and cause bad things to happen. I like Hogan's statement that if he started his downswing correctly he wished he had three right hands to apply the power. There are other videos on this channel that can help you develop the feel that will work best for you. You may also wish to consider the SagutoGolf membership plan. It represents one of the best golf instruction values out there. Your tip on turn the waist and then your shoulders to 90 degrees has been life saver for this 66 yr old. I was hitting the ball fat time after time. Now only after a couple practices I've hit only a couple fat shots and the ball is going straight. Thanks... now if you could post a video on fairway woods. I seem to top them quite often. Can't figure out why, unless I'm leaning back unconsciously thus making my swing move up over the ball. Again thank...

    I'm not all to sure yet what leads to trouble on the inside left knee of most righty's but I have discovered some, and I think it had to due with always being taught to load up on my right side, and so I eventually developed a sway .
    Like sway one way and sway back as the swing has that mirror to it. I can just hear the crisp sound of saguto impact and that was important to me because it's really hard taking your head off the ball and returning it back each time to get that. I was working far to hard. I do believe in a little stretching though.. sorry buddy I do😊

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před rokem

      You are free to stretch as much as you want. Even I do for a couple of minutes prior to swinging. But you don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. To that end, is a very body-friendly motion as supported by the fact that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
      Have you looked into the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Thousands of folks across the globe and spanning all age ranges and talent levels are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
